About The Right Step

The Right Step Dallas Central in Euless, Texas, was an alcohol and drug rehabilitation facility for men and women. It’s closed now but you would have found it between Dallas and Fort Worth and not far from the Dallas Fort Worth International Airport. The levels of care that were available at this location included inpatient detox, residential drug rehabilitation and intensive outpatient care.

Treatment From Trained Addiction Specialists

I like that this facility was staffed with various trained addiction specialists. The staff members that would assist clients with their recovery included board-certified psychiatrists, addictionologists, and psychiatric nurse practitioners. Some of the team members were also trained in specialized therapies such as dialectical behavioral therapy.

Holistic Therapy Options For Healing

Along with traditional therapeutic approaches, the facility incorporated holistic treatment approaches to help with the healing process. A fitness instructor was available to provide individualized fitness plans to help patients rebuild their stamina and physical health. The facility featured outdoor sports courts and an onsite gym.

The Right Step Dallas Central also had a nutritionist on staff to help repair a client’s nutritional deficiencies that occurred due to substance use. In collaboration with a professional chef and the kitchen staff, clients were given nutritional meals with options tailored to their dietary needs.

Sober Activities in Fort Worth

In between your treatment sessions, there are numerous activities you could have visited in Fort Worth to help maintain your sobriety. One place you might have enjoyed checking out is Log Cabin Village. It has historic buildings and costumed actors to illustrate what life was like in mid-19th century Texas.

My time at PRC has been a wonderful experience on my road to recovery. I have been attending IOP program and living in their “Sober Living” facility. The staff is really nice and supportive. The IOP/PERMA approach to recovery is VERY VALUABLE and the instructors are amazing and truly care about each patient, their success in achieving and maintaining long-term sobriety, and are so encouraging! I highly recommend PRC to anyone struggling!

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

After completing some form of inpatient care, many clients transition or step down to an outpatient rehab, while some choose to transition from detox directly into outpatient care. High-intensity outpatient programming, including partial hospitalization (PHP) and intensive outpatient (IOP) is widely available for clients in early recovery, those leaving detox, and those at an elevated relapse risk. Clients in outpatient care generally engage in robust addiction counseling and recovery education, and some also receive medication assisted treatment (MAT).

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.

Rehab aftercare programs are based on a model of continuing care and the premise that recovery is a life-long process requiring ongoing client support. Many rehab aftercare services include outpatient care, but clients often continue to receive support after being discharged from formal treatment. Case managers and care teams typically collaborate with clients to design their long-term care plan, which may include peer coaching, career counseling, and 12 step program induction, among other services.

12 step programs promote participants' sustained sobriety through rigorous and ongoing peer coaching and personal spiritual growth. Participants routinely attend 12 step meetings, which are available multiple times per day, 365 days per year in most communities. This ensures that those in recovery have prompt access to the structure and support they need when they need it. These programs use spiritual precepts to address the root causes of addiction and encourage compassion, self-awareness, forgiveness, accountability, and acceptance.

Residents of a sober living home in Texas reside at the halfway house with others who have agreed to abstain from substances and practice sober-living skills. The relationships and accountability formed here can help individuals strengthen their mental health and achieve long-term recovery. Residents share common spaces such as kitchens and back yards, share meals together, and share household responsibilities such as cooking and cleaning.

A partial hospitalization program (PHP) is a short-term form of intensive rehab, usually for those with acute symptoms that are hard to manage but don’t require 24-hour care. PHPs have structured programming (i.e. individual and/or group therapy), and usually meet 3-5 days a week for around 6 hours (i.e. 9am-3m). Some PHPs are residential (patients sleep on site) and some are not, so patients sleep at home. PHPs can last from 1-6 months, and some offer transportation and meals.

Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

During rehab in Texas, you'll deal with underlying issues that contribute to addiction. By addressing these challenges and learning healthy ways to cope with them, you'll develop strategies that help you live a drug-free lifestyle.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

CBT is an evidence-based therapy that helps the client recognize self-defeating thoughts and behaviors and learn more functional, adaptive ways of dealing with challenges. It is effective in addressing a wide range of issues including depression, anxiety, trauma, addiction and other mental health disorders. (residential program)

A form of cognitive behavioral therapy, DBT helps the client accept who he/she is in the present moment, but also realize that in order to meet their goals, changes are needed. This approach draws upon practices like mindfulness, acceptance of difficulties as normal, interpersonal effectiveness, and emotion regulation. DBT has been shown to have positive effects on substance abuse, anger and depression, among other mental health issues.(residential program)

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

This goal-oriented therapy includes the client as an active decision-maker in the therapeutic process and provides a collaborative therapeutic relationship instead of traditional doctor-and-patient roles. Their counselor will help the client discover their own wisdom and motivation for change within a supportive, accepting environment. (residential program)

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

The Right Step Dallas focuses on a healthy lifestyle, they emphasize the importance of proper nutrition in recovery. Their onsite nutritionist works with their professional chef and kitchen staff to ensure meals are both delicious and nutritious and any dietary needs or deficiencies are attended to. They’ll teach the client about the benefits of eating healthily and how to continue this practice when they leave treatment. (residential program)

Recreational therapy (aka therapeutic recreation) uses creative and fun activities to help with addiction recovery. Recreational therapists lead patients in entertaining and engaging activities like sports or games; art (drawing, painting, sculpture); drama, music, and dance; and/or community outings (field trips) to improve patients' physical, social, and emotional well-being.

The Right Step Dallas offers alternative therapeutic approaches such as music and art therapy so that the client have the opportunity to explore emotions and challenges in a different setting than traditional talk therapy. The creative process can help you uncover underlying issues and express yourself in different ways, providing opportunities for discovery, healing and creative problem-solving. (residential program)

I did my homework thoroughly before coming to PRC. I checked the online reviews, went for an in-person tour with co-director Glenn, even had personal friends recommend this place. I would not recommend this facility to anyone. I asked Glen directly if they admitted psychiatric patients and he replied that they evaluated them on a case-by-case basis. This turned out not to be true. There were multiple people with lurid and graphic psychiatric statements that I would be glad to share in detail, but Google is not allowing that. Family members that visit on Saturday must appear at 9:30 a.m. and are given talks on alcohol and drug dependence. If family members repeat visits on Saturdays, they must still go through the 2.5 hour experience, and are finally able to join their family that is in the facility at noon. Jon, counselor, during class, shared the story of his 6-year-old daughter being raped by Jon's best friend. All these people were in the same building, and all adults were,"stoned out of their minds". During the night best friend raped the 6-year-old daughter. For the next 6 years the daughter at one time tried to OD on her anxiety medicine, and began cutting herself. Jon said when the child was 12 her church camp counselor called and said the 12-year-old had revealed this rape. John said that he spoke to the best friend, who denied it. John rounded up this talk to us, by saying he had told the best friend he was forgiven, and what we as residents were to learn with from this was resilience. This story threw me into one of the worst anxiety attacks I've ever had. What makes this worse is that John repeated this story to family members on Saturday morning, during their 2.5 hour talk. These family members were aghast. Blood draws in urine and urine samples are taken on Mondays. The resident doctor, Dr Ulrich, told me my test results on my blood sample showed my blood sugar level was high. After giving this some thought, I let him know on the next visit where he repeated my blood sugar was high, that the blood was being drawn after I've had six cups of coffee with sugar. A fasting blood draw is what is needed for testing for high blood sugar. Dr Ulrich simply replied that he didn't know what time that blood was drawn. Residents are required to do chores each day. Per Brenda Marsden, counselor, this is a team building effort. I believe it's a cost-cutting measure for the facility. They don't have to pay for any kind of housekeeping. Residents are required to sweep and mop all hard floors which includes cafeteria, all wing floors, and entryways. All trash cans are to be emptied and refilled with new liners. Some of these trash cans are located in the nurses station, that have specimen receptacles. There is zero housekeeping here. You are required to change your own sheets and towels The head of the RAs, Allison announced that laundry detergent was to be reduced to 1/2 scoop, as " research showed that was sufficient". You'd better like powdered eggs, chicken or pork, because 90% of the time that was the meat served. Meals were very high on carbs, bread, pasta, rice Monday through Friday 5 classes are held. Each was to be 45 to 50 minutes long. Class was always held up for 10 minutes due to the same residents showing up late. The instructors would always state to those on time, why couldn't anybody be here on time. Only one time did I ever see a counselor turn away latecomers. Do the math 5 times a day x 10 minutes late x 5 days a week. Those of us that showed up on time were paying for all those lost class hours. There is zero handicap accommodations in several parts of the facility. In handicap rooms the only concession is bars in the shower. The no slip strips in the shower floor are now just dirty remnants of long gone adhesive. There are no electric doors. Paths to the smoking areas are large uneven stones with large gaps between. I do not recommend this facility.
