This was a sort of “Hail Mary” for my wife. We went through all sorts of medications and treatment for her insomnia/anxiety/depression. She had never had any mental health issues in her 38 years so this hit us like a ton of bricks. The staff here are incredible. Rob the CEO returned phone calls all days of the week. They helped me get through it as much as her. I was able to hear her get better week by week over the phone and was kept up to date by the staff. Rob is solid and if he tells you he’ll take care of something, he will. These people genuinely care. I can’t enough about how this place and people got my family headed back in the right direction. Started off with not a lot of hope and very apprehensive but finished very strong and with things looking great for the future. Huge thanks to the people at The Summit. From admissions all the way to the private chef that prepares their meals. These people are class acts and they work very hard to help people.

Thank you for trusting The Summit Sanctuary during such an uncertain time. Coming in after so many trials and so little sleep can feel overwhelming, and we are honored that you gave us a chance when hope felt thin.

Your kind words about our team, from admissions to our nursing and clinical staff to our private chef, mean so much. We will share your appreciation with Rob as well. He cares greatly about every family and works hard to follow through, and it is wonderful to hear that the regular updates and calls helped you feel supported too.

Most of all, we are grateful that you could hear your wife getting stronger week by week. Recovery is a team effort. Your love, patience, and advocacy were a vital part of that progress. Knowing that you are finishing this chapter feeling steady and optimistic is exactly why we do what we do.

Thank you for allowing us to walk alongside you. If you or your wife ever need anything, please reach out. We are here for you and cheering you on for all that is ahead.

Accepted Insurance

The Summit Sanctuary works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care

The initial phase of recovery treatment typically includes 24-hour clinical care in Arizona. This constant supervision ensures a safe detox process, which helps the individual physically stabilize from substance use. Patients will receive medications to curb withdrawal symptoms and cravings, as well as other necessary medical treatment. This period typically lasts up to a week, then the individual will receive medical clearance to begin inpatient or outpatient rehab.

inpatient iconInpatient

Inpatient rehab is designed primarily for persons in early recovery and those who are exiting detox programs. It's ideal for clients in crisis or at an elevated risk of relapse. Inpatient treatment centers provide housing and meals, allowing clients to focus on their recovery away from distractions and addiction triggers. Clients engage in intensive psychotherapy, and many inpatient programs feature recovery-focused life skills training and/or complementary therapies like meditation, creative arts therapy, and other holistic treatments.

medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox

The safest way to remove addictive substances from your body is done under the care of licensed medical professionals. Known as medically assisted detox, this level of care is typically in an inpatient setting with a team of medical experts that may include doctors, nurses, and mental health clinicians. Medications like Suboxone, methadone, or Vivitrol may be administered to help alleviate withdrawal symptoms.

Treatments

Alcohol use disorder (AUD), also referred to as alcoholism and alcohol addiction, is a chronic condition that involves craving alcohol and an inability to control drinking. A person with AUD must drink greater and greater amounts of alcohol to achieve the same effects and experiences withdrawal symptoms if they stop drinking alcohol. Several evidence-based methods are available to treat AUD through alcohol rehab in Arizona. This treatment can occur on an outpatient or inpatient basis.

Drug rehab in Arizona is the process of treating individuals who are dependent on a particular addictive drug. Because addiction is complex, this treatment typically includes a variety of interventions that address the many physical and emotional issues involved.

mental-health iconMental Health And Substance Abuse
opium iconOpioid Addiction

Arizona's substance abuse treatment centers can provide tailored treatment for individuals with substance use disorders and mental health conditions. Treatment programs may include medically assisted detox, 12-Step recovery, intensive outpatient programs, and aftercare support. Addiction experts employ evidence-based therapies like cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), and talk therapy to uncover and reframe unhelpful patterns. By graduation, you'll have developed new coping strategies, learned new stress management techniques, and have the capability of sustaining your recovery.

Dual-diagnosis addiction treatment in Arizona provides integrated care for individuals with co-occurring substance use disorders and mental health conditions. Services may include medically assisted detox, 12-Step recovery, intensive outpatient programs, and aftercare support. Addiction experts use evidence-based therapies, like cognitive behavioral therapy, or dialectical behavioral therapy, and trauma-focused therapy, to simultaneously address substance use and mental health disorders. This comprehensive approach to treatment helps to ensure sustained recovery.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image

Adult Program

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image

Young Adult Program

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Family therapy involves sessions where members of the family discuss how addiction has affected them individually and collectively. Therapists can guide families in developing coping strategies that help support their loved one's recovery while also focusing on their own emotional health.

In Arizona, group therapy helps promote accountability and motivation for men and women who want to stay committed to addiction recovery. It fosters a sense of community where you can share your progress and learn new coping strategies from your peers.

Individual therapy for drug and alcohol addiction includes focused attention on the unique challenges that trigger addictive behavior. During individual therapy sessions, you have a safe space in which to discuss stressors and emotional struggles. Therapy fosters trust and open communication that helps develop personalized strategies to overcome addiction.

Developing life skills is an important piece of addiction recovery treatment. These skills help you succeed in day to day tasks and live a healthy, independent life. They include communication, critical thinking, problem solving, self control, and resilience.

Trauma therapy focuses on helping you understand and manage emotional and physical responses to past trauma. Using therapeutic interventions, you learn to reframe the experience. This helps reduce your anxiety and gives you greater control over your life.

Also known as CBT, cognitive behavioral therapy in Arizona is one of the most common types of psychotherapy. It offers a structured method of counseling that effectively treats substance use disorder and dual diagnosis disorders.

Dialectical behavior therapy in Arizona focuses on acceptance of your reality and behaviors while also attempting to make changes in unhealthy behaviors. It has been shown to be effective for the treatment of anxiety, depression, PTSD, and substance use disorder.

*** This is my honest updated review *** After being back for a few months and reflecting on my experience at the Summit there are some vital things to take into consideration when choosing a facility. Please keep in mind I was there to focus primarily on mental health. First off - if you are local or a resident of AZ this is one of the best if not THE best facility and team to manage substance recovery and they have an incredible staff that do set you up for success and they WANT to be there. They are amazing. PLEASE reach out to their intake team no matter financial status if you are a local / resident because their level of care and accommodations are above any other "luxury" facility. They truly are a luxury facility. I still keep in touch with some people from my short stay there and they are thriving - the programme works. Now this is the most important part I felt obligated to share out of transparency. Their CEO as mentioned in my original post, Michael Goldman, is the most compassionate and sweetest individual. He is doing incredible work and will go above and beyond to ensure you are well taken care of and provided for. The ONLY complaint I have is about their COO Rob. Before you book with Summit please consider his role and credentials in your stay. When you seek help for mental health or recovery at this level you are in an extremely vulnerable state. Within my first 4 days one resident left due to inhumane treatment by Rob. I also left because of Rob shortly after her departure. Upon return to my home state I was recommended to seek additional therapy from my medical team due to the mental, physical, and verbal traumatization I experienced directly from Rob. Everything is recorded at this sanctuary on camera. I was fortunate enough to have a family member arrange my care - he dealt primarily with the COO Rob. After returning back, I was shown the correspondences between my family member and Rob / intake team. Rob not only communicated with my family member AFTER I revoked consent but he continued to message, call, and communicate via email things that were untrue about my stay. Things that were easily disproved with medical documents and conflicting statements sent from him to myself and my family. When approach by Rob he berated me in front of the nursing staff, against ER doctor orders gave me an ultimatum and told me to either participate or immediately leave (with no money or contacts in state). After deep diving into his background and credentials when everything came to light he should not be around vulnerable populations. I was not the only person in my group that felt this sentiment either. He was consistently condescending, insulting, physically and verbally inappropriate. I was uncomfortable, judged, and vilely manipulated under Rob. This place deserves 5 stars but in my right mind and conscience I cannot let others walk into this blind. It is something, especially if you are coming from out of state and dont have someone close by to advocate, to take into serious consideration. I will say when the CEO Michael is present, Rob does not engage in impervious behaviour. It took a lot of advocating and having a supportive family to understand the severe damage he had caused in such a short timeframe. Key take away points - if you are local and struggling do not hesitate to go. If you are a female (especially out of state) I would reconsider other options as long as they have Rob on-site. Seeing the way the employees act around him and how careful (almost fearful) at times was a red flag for me - he has a short fuse and hot temper. By no means is this meant to serve as a deterrent. It truly is a magical place. That being said, those are just a few things to take into consideration as everyone's situations and goals are different.

Response from the owner
Thank you for the thoughtful review and for choosing The Summit Sanctuary. We know that you have a tremendous amount of options when choosing your mental healthcare, and we are grateful for the trust that you put into our team. When I first arrived at The Summit Sanctuary, I was in a dark place. I felt hopeless—emotionally drained, unsure of myself, and skeptical that anything could really help. I wasn’t convinced this stay would change much. But now, looking back, I realize it changed everything. The Summit Sanctuary isn’t just a rehab facility. It’s a place that gives you the space—and support—to reset, reflect, and heal. From the start, I was blown away by the setting and the amenities. It felt more like a retreat than a clinic. That peaceful environment helped me start to let my guard down. But what really made the difference was the staff. Every single person I interacted with treated me with kindness, respect, and genuine care. They weren’t just going through the motions. They listened. They encouraged. They believed in me when I didn’t believe in myself. A big part of that support came from Emily! From our very first session, she created a space where I could be honest without feeling judged. She had this way of asking the right questions—not pushing, but gently guiding me to see things from a new perspective. Her empathy and insight played a huge role in helping me rediscover hope. If you're someone who’s struggling, or even just feeling stuck, I can tell you this: change is possible. Healing is real.

Response from the owner

We’ll be sure to pass along your kind words to our entire team, Emily especially will be touched to know her compassion and thoughtful guidance made a difference.

Your message is a powerful reminder that change is possible and healing is real. Thank you for taking the time to share hope. Wishing you continued strength and gentleness with yourself on the path ahead.

After years of therapy and trying different treatment programs, The Summit Sanctuary is where I finally turned a corner. They helped me not only begin to heal deep-seated childhood trauma through EMDR, but also supported me in addressing long-standing substance abuse issues that I had never been able to fully break free from. From day one, I felt like I was in a place that truly understood what real recovery takes. The staff is exceptionally knowledgeable, professional, and deeply compassionate. I’ve never felt more supported, or in more capable hands. Emily Johanson, my primary therapist, was absolutely life-changing. Her depth of insight, empathy, and skill created a space where I could finally confront things I had spent years avoiding. Her guidance through trauma therapy gave me real hope for the first time in a long time. The program is a nice blend of evidence-based treatment and holistic therapies like daily yoga, equine therapy, and acupuncture. Each day started with yoga, which grounded me and set the tone for healing. The facility itself is beautiful—peaceful, private, and surrounded by scenic mountain views. The spacious bedrooms, on-site chef, and amenities like the pool, spa, gym, cold plunge, sauna, and theater room made it feel more like a sanctuary than a facility. It truly felt like home—a place where I could rest, reset, and rebuild. Summit gave me the tools to manage anxiety, depression, and addiction—and the confidence to move forward. If you’re ready for real transformation, this is where it starts.

Response from the owner
Thank you so much for sharing your powerful journey. Your words deeply moved us, and we’re honored to have walked alongside you during such a transformative chapter in your life.

It means everything to know that you felt truly seen, supported, and safe here — and that our approach, from trauma-informed therapy like EMDR to the holistic elements of our program, helped create the foundation for real healing. Your recognition of Emily’s work speaks volumes; she and our entire team are deeply committed to meeting each individual with care, compassion, and clinical excellence.

We're also so glad to hear that the environment—the mountains, the amenities, the daily practices—contributed to your sense of peace and progress. You describe exactly what we strive to provide: a sanctuary for deep healing and lasting change.

Thank you for trusting us with your recovery, and for inspiring others with your courage and openness. You’ll always be part of the Summit family, and we’re cheering you on every step of the way.

The Summit Sanctuary is a testimony to what's possible at the residential level of addiction and mental health treatment. Beyond the finest amenities in a setting second to none, Summit truly shines with it's thoroughly enriched clinical programming. Going to treatment is hard 10/10 times, no one checks into a facility because life is going well, but I genuinely can't think of a better team and setting to land with than this. Whenever I'm honestly considering a program's quality I ask myself: would I send a loved one here? The answer, as it pertains to The Summit Sanctuary, is a resounding yes. Congrats to the entire team and staff for creating something exceptional here.

Response from the owner
Thank you so much for your kind and thoughtful review. We are truly honored by your words and grateful for the trust you've placed in The Summit Sanctuary. We take great pride in the work we do and in the team we've built, and it’s incredibly rewarding to hear that our efforts have made such a positive impact. Your recognition of our clinical programming and overall environment means the world to us. We are committed to providing the best care possible, and knowing that you would recommend us to a loved one is the highest compliment we could receive. Congratulations to you as well for your journey, and thank you again for your support and trust in our services.
