When I first arrived at The Summit Sanctuary, I was in a dark place. I felt hopeless—emotionally drained, unsure of myself, and skeptical that anything could really help. I wasn’t convinced this stay would change much. But now, looking back, I realize it changed everything. The Summit Sanctuary isn’t just a rehab facility. It’s a place that gives you the space—and support—to reset, reflect, and heal. From the start, I was blown away by the setting and the amenities. It felt more like a retreat than a clinic. That peaceful environment helped me start to let my guard down. But what really made the difference was the staff. Every single person I interacted with treated me with kindness, respect, and genuine care. They weren’t just going through the motions. They listened. They encouraged. They believed in me when I didn’t believe in myself. A big part of that support came from Emily! From our very first session, she created a space where I could be honest without feeling judged. She had this way of asking the right questions—not pushing, but gently guiding me to see things from a new perspective. Her empathy and insight played a huge role in helping me rediscover hope. If you're someone who’s struggling, or even just feeling stuck, I can tell you this: change is possible. Healing is real.

Accepted Insurance

The Summit Sanctuary works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care
The initial phase of recovery treatment typically includes 24-hour clinical care in Arizona. This constant supervision ensures a safe detox process, which helps the individual physically stabilize from substance use. Patients will receive medications to curb withdrawal symptoms and cravings, as well as other necessary medical treatment. This period typically lasts up to a week, then the individual will receive medical clearance to begin inpatient or outpatient rehab.
inpatient iconInpatient
Inpatient rehab is designed primarily for persons in early recovery and those who are exiting detox programs. It's ideal for clients in crisis or at an elevated risk of relapse. Inpatient treatment centers provide housing and meals, allowing clients to focus on their recovery away from distractions and addiction triggers. Clients engage in intensive psychotherapy, and many inpatient programs feature recovery-focused life skills training and/or complementary therapies like meditation, creative arts therapy, and other holistic treatments.

Treatments

Alcohol use disorder (AUD), also referred to as alcoholism and alcohol addiction, is a chronic condition that involves craving alcohol and an inability to control drinking. A person with AUD must drink greater and greater amounts of alcohol to achieve the same effects and experiences withdrawal symptoms if they stop drinking alcohol. Several evidence-based methods are available to treat AUD through alcohol rehab in Arizona. This treatment can occur on an outpatient or inpatient basis.

Drug rehab in Arizona is the process of treating individuals who are dependent on a particular addictive drug. Because addiction is complex, this treatment typically includes a variety of interventions that address the many physical and emotional issues involved.

mental-health iconMental Health And Substance Abuse
opium iconOpioid Addiction

Arizona's substance abuse treatment centers can provide tailored treatment for individuals with substance use disorders and mental health conditions. Treatment programs may include medically assisted detox, 12-Step recovery, intensive outpatient programs, and aftercare support. Addiction experts employ evidence-based therapies like cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), and talk therapy to uncover and reframe unhelpful patterns. By graduation, you'll have developed new coping strategies, learned new stress management techniques, and have the capability of sustaining your recovery.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.

Clinical Services

Family therapy involves sessions where members of the family discuss how addiction has affected them individually and collectively. Therapists can guide families in developing coping strategies that help support their loved one's recovery while also focusing on their own emotional health.

In Arizona, group therapy helps promote accountability and motivation for men and women who want to stay committed to addiction recovery. It fosters a sense of community where you can share your progress and learn new coping strategies from your peers.

Individual therapy for drug and alcohol addiction includes focused attention on the unique challenges that trigger addictive behavior. During individual therapy sessions, you have a safe space in which to discuss stressors and emotional struggles. Therapy fosters trust and open communication that helps develop personalized strategies to overcome addiction.

Developing life skills is an important piece of addiction recovery treatment. These skills help you succeed in day to day tasks and live a healthy, independent life. They include communication, critical thinking, problem solving, self control, and resilience.

Trauma therapy focuses on helping you understand and manage emotional and physical responses to past trauma. Using therapeutic interventions, you learn to reframe the experience. This helps reduce your anxiety and gives you greater control over your life.

After years of therapy and trying different treatment programs, The Summit Sanctuary is where I finally turned a corner. They helped me not only begin to heal deep-seated childhood trauma through EMDR, but also supported me in addressing long-standing substance abuse issues that I had never been able to fully break free from. From day one, I felt like I was in a place that truly understood what real recovery takes. The staff is exceptionally knowledgeable, professional, and deeply compassionate. I’ve never felt more supported, or in more capable hands. Emily Johanson, my primary therapist, was absolutely life-changing. Her depth of insight, empathy, and skill created a space where I could finally confront things I had spent years avoiding. Her guidance through trauma therapy gave me real hope for the first time in a long time. The program is a nice blend of evidence-based treatment and holistic therapies like daily yoga, equine therapy, and acupuncture. Each day started with yoga, which grounded me and set the tone for healing. The facility itself is beautiful—peaceful, private, and surrounded by scenic mountain views. The spacious bedrooms, on-site chef, and amenities like the pool, spa, gym, cold plunge, sauna, and theater room made it feel more like a sanctuary than a facility. It truly felt like home—a place where I could rest, reset, and rebuild. Summit gave me the tools to manage anxiety, depression, and addiction—and the confidence to move forward. If you’re ready for real transformation, this is where it starts.

The Summit Sanctuary is a testimony to what's possible at the residential level of addiction and mental health treatment. Beyond the finest amenities in a setting second to none, Summit truly shines with it's thoroughly enriched clinical programming. Going to treatment is hard 10/10 times, no one checks into a facility because life is going well, but I genuinely can't think of a better team and setting to land with than this. Whenever I'm honestly considering a program's quality I ask myself: would I send a loved one here? The answer, as it pertains to The Summit Sanctuary, is a resounding yes. Congrats to the entire team and staff for creating something exceptional here.

Response from the ownerInvalid relative date format:
Thank you so much for your kind and thoughtful review. We are truly honored by your words and grateful for the trust you've placed in The Summit Sanctuary. We take great pride in the work we do and in the team we've built, and it’s incredibly rewarding to hear that our efforts have made such a positive impact. Your recognition of our clinical programming and overall environment means the world to us. We are committed to providing the best care possible, and knowing that you would recommend us to a loved one is the highest compliment we could receive. Congratulations to you as well for your journey, and thank you again for your support and trust in our services.

I recently toured The Summit while awaiting my doctor’s consult for PTSD and anxiety, and I’m extremely impressed with both the staff and the diverse range of treatment modalities offered. The environment is exceptional—calm, supportive, and truly conducive to recovery. A great program demands hard work, but the right setting should inspire and motivate that effort. The team has been incredibly supportive and communicative throughout the entire process, taking the stress out of coordination. I’m eager to begin, commit to the process, and see the results. For me eagerness and enthusiasm are the hallmarks of progress and I’m galvanized to start this journey after touring The Summit.

Response from the ownerInvalid relative date format:

Bait and switch facility. Sent them insurance day 1. Ghosted, but let's do a tour. After the tour and 3 days later I'm still asking insurance stuff. Hear well actually it's not covered. Great bait and switch treatment facility that you should run from! I'd say it needs an audit for such predatory practices!

Response from the ownerInvalid relative date format:
Joey,
We understand that supporting a loved one through a mental health or substance use crisis can be incredibly challenging and emotional. At The Summit Sanctuary, we are committed to being transparent and thorough in discussing insurance coverage and financial responsibilities before a guest is ever admitted.

In your family's case, while your loved one was never admitted to our facility, we did provide considerable time, attention, and care during the initial inquiry process—including a tour to help assess whether we would be a good fit. We occationally accommodate prospective families who wish to see the property before insurance verification is complete, but we always ensure that no guest is admitted until insurance benefits and out-of-pocket costs are clearly communicated and understood.

We’re sorry if there was any confusion or delay during the insurance verification process. Sometimes, gathering all necessary information may take longer than expected, especially when working with external factors like insurance companies. That said, we take allegations of “bait and switch” seriously, and want to be clear: this does not reflect our values or practices.

We genuinely hope your family member has found a facility that meets their needs and is on a strong path to recovery.

Sincerely,
The Summit Sanctuary Team
