Summit Sanctuary was a life saver for my family. Sending a loved one here was absolutely the right decision for our family. We had tried another facility and it was just not the right environment. Come here if you want to be surrounded by structure, good roommates, a staff that cares, beautiful surroundings and top shelf amenities. And not only was the location top shelf, but the staff was kind, loving and understanding. Being treated like a human is important in a time of need, and we definitely felt the love here!

The Summit Sanctuary works with several private insurance providers, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

The initial phase of recovery treatment typically includes 24-hour clinical care in Arizona. This constant supervision ensures a safe detox process, which helps the individual physically stabilize from substance use. Patients will receive medications to curb withdrawal symptoms and cravings, as well as other necessary medical treatment. This period typically lasts up to a week, then the individual will receive medical clearance to begin inpatient or outpatient rehab.

Inpatient rehab is designed primarily for persons in early recovery and those who are exiting detox programs. It's ideal for clients in crisis or at an elevated risk of relapse. Inpatient treatment centers provide housing and meals, allowing clients to focus on their recovery away from distractions and addiction triggers. Clients engage in intensive psychotherapy, and many inpatient programs feature recovery-focused life skills training and/or complementary therapies like meditation, creative arts therapy, and other holistic treatments.

The safest way to remove addictive substances from your body is done under the care of licensed medical professionals. Known as medically assisted detox, this level of care is typically in an inpatient setting with a team of medical experts that may include doctors, nurses, and mental health clinicians. Medications like Suboxone, methadone, or Vivitrol may be administered to help alleviate withdrawal symptoms.

Treatments

Alcohol use disorder (AUD), also referred to as alcoholism and alcohol addiction, is a chronic condition that involves craving alcohol and an inability to control drinking. A person with AUD must drink greater and greater amounts of alcohol to achieve the same effects and experiences withdrawal symptoms if they stop drinking alcohol. Several evidence-based methods are available to treat AUD through alcohol rehab in Arizona. This treatment can occur on an outpatient or inpatient basis.

Drug rehab in Arizona is the process of treating individuals who are dependent on a particular addictive drug. Because addiction is complex, this treatment typically includes a variety of interventions that address the many physical and emotional issues involved.

Arizona's substance abuse treatment centers can provide tailored treatment for individuals with substance use disorders and mental health conditions. Treatment programs may include medically assisted detox, 12-Step recovery, intensive outpatient programs, and aftercare support. Addiction experts employ evidence-based therapies like cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), and talk therapy to uncover and reframe unhelpful patterns. By graduation, you'll have developed new coping strategies, learned new stress management techniques, and have the capability of sustaining your recovery.

Dual-diagnosis addiction treatment in Arizona provides integrated care for individuals with co-occurring substance use disorders and mental health conditions. Services may include medically assisted detox, 12-Step recovery, intensive outpatient programs, and aftercare support. Addiction experts use evidence-based therapies, like cognitive behavioral therapy, or dialectical behavioral therapy, and trauma-focused therapy, to simultaneously address substance use and mental health disorders. This comprehensive approach to treatment helps to ensure sustained recovery.

Programs

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Family therapy involves sessions where members of the family discuss how addiction has affected them individually and collectively. Therapists can guide families in developing coping strategies that help support their loved one's recovery while also focusing on their own emotional health.

In Arizona, group therapy helps promote accountability and motivation for men and women who want to stay committed to addiction recovery. It fosters a sense of community where you can share your progress and learn new coping strategies from your peers.

Individual therapy for drug and alcohol addiction includes focused attention on the unique challenges that trigger addictive behavior. During individual therapy sessions, you have a safe space in which to discuss stressors and emotional struggles. Therapy fosters trust and open communication that helps develop personalized strategies to overcome addiction.

Developing life skills is an important piece of addiction recovery treatment. These skills help you succeed in day to day tasks and live a healthy, independent life. They include communication, critical thinking, problem solving, self control, and resilience.

Trauma therapy focuses on helping you understand and manage emotional and physical responses to past trauma. Using therapeutic interventions, you learn to reframe the experience. This helps reduce your anxiety and gives you greater control over your life.

Also known as CBT, cognitive behavioral therapy in Arizona is one of the most common types of psychotherapy. It offers a structured method of counseling that effectively treats substance use disorder and dual diagnosis disorders.

Dialectical behavior therapy in Arizona focuses on acceptance of your reality and behaviors while also attempting to make changes in unhealthy behaviors. It has been shown to be effective for the treatment of anxiety, depression, PTSD, and substance use disorder.

I decided to write a review after having some sobriety under my belt. I was dismissed from The Summit Sanctuary after being verbally assaulted by a patient who was leaving and an employee providing less than honest information. I am a disabled Vet and suffer from PTSD, anxiety/depression, alcoholism. The patient screamed as I fell asleep in a meeting in the first few hours out of detox and I reacted in a poor manner. The employee than stated I was threatening. The management of Summit then discussed and requested I leave after just a few hours at the Sanctuary. I called for an Uber and sat in the car for over an hour with the employee that felt "threatened", in the desert at night. I was not offered any type of transportation or assistance from this fine institution. Sorry but these are the facts. Today I received texts requesting payment, almost 2 years later. I am thinking that I should receive payment for the pain and mental anguish the Summit Sanctuary has caused. As a disabled Vet you figured they would go the extra mile to assist. But not when its about $. I would seriously consider places where to go for treatment. The word Luxury does not mean, competent, caring nor professional. Summit Sanctuary the place where Disabled Vets get rejected.

Response from the owner
Thank you for sharing your concerns. Because we are a healthcare provider, we are unable to discuss or respond to any individual’s treatment experience, circumstances, or account details in a public forum.

What we can say is that at The Summit Sanctuary, we are unwavering in our obligation to provide a safe, respectful, and clinically appropriate environment for every guest and staff member.

We also understand that insurance and out-of-network billing can be confusing. Our team is available to answer questions privately and explain how insurance payments are handled when a carrier issues payment directly to a member for services rendered.

If we can assist you further, please contact us directly so we can address your concerns with care, privacy, and professionalism.

There truly aren’t enough words to express how grateful I am for Summit Sanctuary. As someone who has struggled with mental health challenges for many years—challenges that led to various addictive and destructive behaviors—I finally found a place that offered both a scientific and holistic approach to healing. Summit Sanctuary was exactly that place. The staff is truly unmatched in both their expertise and their compassion. The individualized attention each person receives is unlike anything I’ve experienced anywhere else. Emily Johanson, the primary therapist, quite simply helped save my life and my marriage. Her approach to treatment is thoughtful, intelligent, and deeply effective. She is brilliant, kind, fun-loving, and spiritual in the most grounded and supportive way. Devon Lavoie, our primary group instructor, is not only incredibly knowledgeable—he has personally walked this path of recovery—but he also has a rare gift for taking complex psychological concepts and making them understandable and meaningful. He actively involves the group rather than simply lecturing, which makes the experience engaging and impactful. Jade Cure, my case manager, is someone I will be forever grateful for. She cared deeply about my wellbeing every single day, which helped calm my anxiety and allowed me to fully settle into the healing process. Joseph Chiaramonte shared case management duties in the evenings, and he was a constant source of wisdom, encouragement, and support during one of the darkest periods of my life. Some of the most meaningful conversations I had during my stay happened while walking in the desert with Joe and members of the group in the evening. The nursing staff—Fred, Angela, Craig, and Cindy—were incredibly kind, professional, and understanding throughout my time there. Summit Sanctuary is truly a special place. The setting is beautiful and comfortable, and the program allows appropriate contact with the outside world, including work responsibilities. The amenities are wonderful—an on-site chef, great food, a pool, hot tub, horses, and more—but none of that compares to the quality of the healing services they provide. The owner Michael and the director April have created a culture of healing that I have never experienced before. I wholeheartedly recommend Summit Sanctuary to anyone seeking real, meaningful recovery and transformation.

Summit Sanctuary offers a calm, supportive environment that’s clearly focused on real healing. It’s not a one-size-fits-all program. The care feels personal, thoughtful, and intentional. As a mental health rehab, they stand out for their compassionate staff and peaceful setting, which feels very different from a typical Scottsdale rehab. Their emphasis on holistic recovery goes beyond just managing symptoms and focuses on long-term mental and emotional wellness. Highly recommended for anyone serious about meaningful growth and healing.
