Despite my obstinate reluctance to participate in this type of therapy, the staff has been extremely confident and flexible in finding a way to help me. I am still surprised and very grateful for their commitment and sincerity. They really have helped in a direct and tangible fashion in a very short time. I never would have guessed that I would end up with such gratitude and respect for the people and process I have been gifted with. I offer my best wishes for all those who sacrifice so much to help and serve to foster recovery and wellness for others. Somehow, even I seem to be worth the effort from such generous folk. My inability to fathom anything that could justify the time spent with me by such wonderous people does not diminish my gratitude for the effects of the education, caring and results achieved.

I was a client at Fountain Hills Recovery at the beginning 2025, and I felt compelled to leave a review about my time there. During my stay, I received treatment for Alcohol and actively participated in all components of the residential treatment program, including group therapy, individual therapy, and psychiatric therapy. The staff was extremely knowledgeable in all aspects of taking back control of your life, and their care and kindness was well above what I expected to receive. The home I stayed in was always well stocked with food of your choosing, and the meals that were provided were well balanced and hit high marks from the chef that prepared them daily for us. Besides the great accommodations in place, the treatment I received was highly beneficial and had led me to know reach a 6 month milestone of living a sober and clean life. I am thankful for my decision to choose Fountain Hills and would recommend it to anyone who is serious about making decisions that will shape their future for the better.

Accepted Insurance

Fountain Hills Recovery works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Sliding scale payments are based on a client's income and family size. The goal is to make treatment affordable to everyone. By taking these factors into account, addiction recovery care providers help ensure that your treatment does not become a financial burden to you or your family, eliminating one barrier to care.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient

Many clients who enroll in an outpatient rehab program are exiting intensive inpatient care and no longer require such high-level clinical supervision. Outpatient programs typically follow a step-down structure, with treatment frequency and intensity decreasing as clients progress in their recovery journey. Partial hospitalization (PHP) and intensive outpatient (IOP) levels of care are the most time-intensive and are designed primarily for clients who have just left inpatient treatment or who are at an elevated risk of relapse.

inpatient iconInpatient

Inpatient rehab is designed primarily for persons in early recovery and those who are exiting detox programs. It's ideal for clients in crisis or at an elevated risk of relapse. Inpatient treatment centers provide housing and meals, allowing clients to focus on their recovery away from distractions and addiction triggers. Clients engage in intensive psychotherapy, and many inpatient programs feature recovery-focused life skills training and/or complementary therapies like meditation, creative arts therapy, and other holistic treatments.

intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient

Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.

aftercare iconAftercare Support

Rehab aftercare programs support clients' successful reintegration into their home, workplace, and community. Drug rehab aftercare presumes that recovery requires life-long support. These programs typically offer a wide variety of services customized for the clients' unique and evolving needs. Clients may receive vocational training and career counseling, housing assistance, legal aid, peer coaching, and 12 step program induction, among other services. Clients' case managers often play a lead role in rehab aftercare planning.

12-step icon12-Step

12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).

sober-living iconSober Living Homes

If you're struggling with adjusting to daily life after inpatient rehab, a sober living home in Arizona may be a good option. These residences offer an in-between option where you can practice the skills you learned in rehab in a structured, drug-free environment. This transition can help you prepare to face the "real world" after treatment. You'll live with others in recovery and follow house rules such as contributing to chores and paying rent.

heart-hands iconIntervention Services

Intervention services helps family or friends of addicts stage an intervention, which is a meeting in which loved ones share their concerns and attempt to get an addict into treatment. Professional intervention specialists can help loved ones organize, gather, and communicate with an addict. They can guide intervention participants in describing the damage the addict's behavior is causing and that outside help is necessary to address the addiction. The ideal outcome of an intervention is for the addict to go to rehab and get the help they need.

partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program

A partial hospitalization program (PHP) is a short-term form of intensive rehab, usually for those with acute symptoms that are hard to manage but don’t require 24-hour care. PHPs have structured programming (i.e. individual and/or group therapy), and usually meet 3-5 days a week for around 6 hours (i.e. 9am-3m). Some PHPs are residential (patients sleep on site) and some are not, so patients sleep at home. PHPs can last from 1-6 months, and some offer transportation and meals.

24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care

The initial phase of recovery treatment typically includes 24-hour clinical care in Arizona. This constant supervision ensures a safe detox process, which helps the individual physically stabilize from substance use. Patients will receive medications to curb withdrawal symptoms and cravings, as well as other necessary medical treatment. This period typically lasts up to a week, then the individual will receive medical clearance to begin inpatient or outpatient rehab.

medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox

The safest way to remove addictive substances from your body is done under the care of licensed medical professionals. Known as medically assisted detox, this level of care is typically in an inpatient setting with a team of medical experts that may include doctors, nurses, and mental health clinicians. Medications like Suboxone, methadone, or Vivitrol may be administered to help alleviate withdrawal symptoms.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in Arizona is the process of treating individuals who are dependent on a particular addictive drug. Because addiction is complex, this treatment typically includes a variety of interventions that address the many physical and emotional issues involved.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image

Adult Program

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
lgbtq-program thumbnail image

LGBTQ Program

Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

equine-therapy iconEquine Therapy

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

The goal of motivational interviewing in Arizona is to enhance your confidence in your ability to make changes in your life. It encourages you to commit to change and plan for the process of making those changes that will allow you to reach your goals.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Residents of Arizona who are experiencing relationship problems may benefit from couples therapy. This form of psychotherapy helps couples express their feelings, resolve conflicts, and increase intimacy and affection.

EMDR is a therapeutic modality originally developed to help process trauma. In an EMDR session, a patient is prompted to undergo eye movements that mimic those of REM sleep. This is accomplished by watching a therapist's finger move back and forth across, or following a bar of light. The goal is repetitive sets of eye movements that help the brain reprocess memory, which can significantly reduce the intensity of remembered traumatic incidents. Associated memories can heal simultaneously, leaving patients significantly calmer, more stable, and more emotionally relaxed.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

Many holistic centers incorporate recreational therapy into addiction treatment to offer you a chance to rediscover joy in movement and motion and build social connections. Activities can include dance, group games, and yoga, which all help improve mental health, reduce stress, and develop positive lifestyle habits. These holistic approaches help sustain long term recovery.

Self expression through creative arts therapy in Arizona can allow individuals who have a hard time articulating their feelings to access their emotions. This approach to counseling taps into our desire to create and draws from a variety of formats such as music, drama, sculpting, and painting.

I am so, so grateful I chose Fountain Hills Recovery as the place to trust for my treatment. Having never been to any kind of treatment facility before, I was essentially at the mercy of referrals from others and what information I could find online. When I timidly called to inquire about FHR, Sandy instantly made me feel comfortable and at ease (as much as one could in such a vulnerable and fragile state), answered all of my questions, and didn't put pressure on me while I tried to navigate the uncertainty and fear of such a new/somewhat scary step/process. Everyone is different and comes to treatment at their own unique place in their life/journey/struggles, but yet share commonalities that are all too familiar to many when it comes to substance abuse, addiction, and mental health. The staff at FHR do a wonderful job of addressing the unique needs and challenges of their clients, providing individualized care and support, while also allowing you to see that you're not alone - you're not broken, and you're not a failure. Rather, you're strong, capable, and resilient - and ultimately, you're on the right track. The program structure allows for individualized therapy as well as a lot of group therapy time. You get one-on-one time with your own therapist regularly (unlike some bigger named places that require you to request to be scheduled), a psychiatrist (who in my experience, wasn't looking to just load me up with meds), and several other counselors through a variety of group sessions throughout the week. They structure the weekdays well so that it doesn't feel like it drags on, giving hourly and lunch breaks to make the pacing manageable and allow you to have the mental energy be present in sessions. You go to meetings and the gym (optional) multiple days a week, as well as equine therapy when the weather permits. They also have a chiropractor available 2x/week and yoga 1x/week, if you want to participate. The weekends are still structured, but you get to enjoy activities (things like top golf, pottery, bowling - your group can decide/find things of interest) and a weekend bbq. Church is available as well for those who are interested. While the program is structured, it also allows flexibility/choice in things such as weekend activities, which type of meetings (AA, CA, NA, Dharma, etc.) you want to attend, and more, food/snacks you want at the house (they kinda spoil you with snack requests - I was not expecting that). Also, the housing is nice - Google images are pretty accurate. All of this to say that recovery is NOT easy. It's not comfortable. There is undoubtedly a lot of negative emotions, struggles, and frustrating moments through the process. Those emotions and challenges are going to exist at any treatment facility when you're battling something that wasn't solvable on your own. There will be days or moments or conversations or activities that trigger a deep resistance or you feel like it's all stupid and shut down, or maybe even lash out. I've seen it - I've done it. But it isn't a reflection of FHR, but rather, a part of the healing process that is bound to occur in recovery. It's on the other end of that where the growth occurs. The FHR team helped me to identify my own personal triggers, as well as so many positive coping skills that were realistic for me to apply in real world situations. As I write this, I can confidently say I'm in the best best best headspace of my entire life. I have so much love for myself and optimism for the future, and I'm able to show up for myself and for others in ways I truly didn't think was possible. I have an authentic excitement for life and I see it as worth living. I know this is long, but as a faint-hearted someone who found FHR just by Google, I know I wanted as much insight into the experience as real people would give me. At the end of the day, if you go in with an open mind and heart, show up, be present, and participate, you're going to come out the other side stronger and a better you. And you'll probably have some fun too (and eat great snacks).

I admitted myself into Fountain Hills a couple of months ago for drug addiction. I have a substantial physical disability as well and my family looked for a rehab facility for weeks and nobody would take me because of the special needs I require including modifications to the bathroom and shower among other things. I also need some physical help getting around that requires extra resources of staff. After being turned away by so many other rehab facilities we tried Fountain Hills. They not only accepted me but love owners made sure that every single accommodation I required was met before I got there, including making modifications to the bathroom, putting a ramp in where it was needed, and making sure that there was enough staff there to help me with other needs. I spent 30 days in recovery. All of the staff starting with Sandy, Paige, Aaron, Erika, Dale, Heather, were outstanding, caring, and supportive. I owe them all a debt of gratitude and for all of the other staff that I may have missed. I have been out of recovery and I have continued with IOP with Margret one of the counselors who has been which has been SO HELPFUL. I’m feeling better than I have felt in years and I am so thankful to the people I mentioned above. I truly appreciate you all! I am extremely grateful to the owners of Fountain Hills Recovery. I have never met them but I would like to talk to them sometime to thank them personally! While all of the other rehab centers turned me away because they didn’t want to put any resources to help accommodate my needs as I mentioned above, the owners at their own expense did everything possible to accommodate so I could get there and get to the point I am at now. Thank you for your help and I appreciate you very much.

Response from the owner
Larry, thank you so much for your kind words regarding our accommodations and staff. Our team is the most experienced and caring staff around and your feedback means the world to us!

Please continue to keep in touch, share your story and keep an eye out for alumni events!

I can’t say enough good things about my experience at Fountain Hills Recovery! From day one, the staff made me feel welcomed, supported, and truly cared for. The therapists, group facilitators, case managers, and housing staff were incredibly knowledgeable and helped me develop coping skills that I use every day. My start there was a little rocky, but the staff helped me walk through my “dramatics”, for lack of a better word, and showed me so much patience and compassion. They gave me the room to come to my own conclusions, but gave exceptional guidance along the way. The structure of the PHP was exactly what I needed—intensive therapy during the day while still allowing me to go to the provided housing in the evenings to practice what I was learning. The group sessions were insightful, and I found a strong sense of community among the other patients. Thanks to this program, I’ve gained a new perspective on my mental health and recovery. I feel more confident in managing my emotions and staying on the right path. If you’re considering PHP, I highly recommend Fountain Hills Recovery—it was truly life-changing! I will be forever grateful for my time there and owe the beginning of my recovery to them. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for everything!

Response from the owner

My daughter came to Fountain Hills recovery center to seek treatment for her depression, OCD /ADHD , which caused her to become a non -functioning young adult. Sleeping most of the day and dropping her college classes one after another , which caused us a lot of distress and sadness about seeing our daughter mental ability deteriorating in front of our eyes and we couldn’t do anything. Finally and for the first time ever she asked us for help. We inquired about where to send her to, and we heard about Fountain Hills recovery center from a friend of ours. I called Sandy who was very helpful, gracious and she explained to us the admittance process and the type of treatments they offer . From my conversation with Sandy I trusted that this program could be a good fit for our daughter. We brought our daughter to the house on Dale Ave 5 weeks ago, and she stayed there for one month and now she moved to the all girls house. From our experience so far I can tell you that we couldn’t have chosen any better place for my daughter to stay at than Fountain Hills. She is turning her life around a great deal. I haven’t seen her this joyful for a long time, the way how she talks has even changed and in a positive way. She tells me that they have the best staff and she loves everyone over there. Dr Robbie, Dr. Abraham, Page (who communicated with me many times to give us updates about our daughter), her therapist Jenny (we communicated with Jenny several timescand she was very helpful and encouraging ) and now Krista in the 2nd home are all doing amazing job. My daughter underwent TMS treatment, 1:1 therapy session, group sessions and many other interventions techniques and is on the right medications that are helping her tremendously. She still has 3 more weeks to go and she has improved in a way we couldn’t dream of. We are finally seeing light at the end of the tunnel, and have some hope that our daughter’s life started to take a turn to the better. I can tell you that this center is the best you can get in Arizona, they are genuinely trying to make a difference in the lives of people who seek treatment for mental disorders, addictions or for both, and they are truly making a difference. We thank God for all the wonderful staff! Also not allowing the use of personal phones for 2 weeks initially is great, since my daughter got to isolate herself from the outside world which is full of distractions and got to focus on herself. One last thing to add is that the therapists and psychiatrist won’t brainwash your child, something that is very important to us as parents . I give Fountain Hills Recovery 10/10, and I recommend it for any parent who are reaching a dead end with their children or with a family member, believe me there is hope and is within your reach don’t wait too long!

Response from the owner
Thank you so much for sharing your story here as it helps others find us and allows us to help more people in the area. We are so proud of the work your daughter has put in and know that Fountain Hills Recovery is always here to support your family. Reach out if you need anything at all. Wishing you all the best this year!

I’ve been to multiple different treatment centers before coming to Fountain Hills, and this time around in treatment I feel like I’ve made a lot of progress in my healing journey. I started doing trauma therapy with Mike in residential, and I learned a lot about myself, my trauma, and what I need to do for myself moving forward, with his help and support. Josh communicated with my mom throughout the whole time I was at FHR, took time out of his day to meet with me to discuss any concerns I had that came up, and sat down with me and helped me build a resumé and fill out job applications. I was able to get off almost all of my medications that I came in on at very high dosages that weren’t working with the help of Dr. Robbie. I underwent TMS treatments and ketamine therapy to help with titrating off my medications, as well as helping my anxiety and depression. Moving to PHP, Tripti has been a huge support in my trauma therapy through EMDR, as well as being a safe space to talk about very difficult things and understanding me and the trauma I have. Krista also helped me a lot through family sessions with my mom and sisters, which was very helpful in re-building relationships with them, doing some inner child work, and working on my self-esteem and self-love. Chloe and Dane, along with the other therapists, led great group therapy sessions on a variety of different topics that I learned a lot from and plan on taking with me as I re-enter society. The BHTs at the house were all very supportive, kind, and helped me through times where I was struggling. Charisse was very kind and helped me schedule outside medical appointments, along with getting us everything we needed for the house and the clinic. Matt provided a lot of support behind the scenes and did a lot to help all of us in the program. Rob helped me get to outside medical appointments and provided a lot of support inside and outside of the clinic. I appreciate all of the staff and this treatment program so much and am looking forward to continuing my healing journey in my next steps.

This place is a SCAM. I had to get several therapy sessions just to let go of trauma and distress caused by this facility! Sandy along with admissions office continually lie about services. They do NOT put you into house on the website, no chef, tms/ketamine is only offered to select few and are NOT DONE MEDICALLY CORRECT! They leave several patients alone in the room by themselves with NO MEDICAL PERSONNEL during ketamine treatment! They have done more damage than helped! If you truly want this to be the diets/ last treatment for yourself or loved one, BELIEVE ME WHEN I SAY, RUN! IT'S NOT MY FIRST PLACE AND I HAVE SOMETHING TO COMPARE!

When searching for a treatment center for a family member, I talked to people at probably 10 different facilities. John and Natalie Salem were fantastic. They are compassionate, understanding, and truly want to help others. Sandy was great as well and so knowledgeable. I had a lot of questions, and she had answers to all of them. 10/10 for Fountain Hills Recovery

My son had 2 stays with Fountain Hills in this past year. I have to say, I believe this is the best inpatient program in Arizona. I’m eternally grateful for the staff facilitating my son’s sober journey. Fountain Hills Recovery knows what really heals people…connection, relationship and truth.

I was at the lowest point of my life when I arrived at FHR and over the course of 60 days, utilized their state of the art EMDR, TMS, 1:1 therapy sessions, family sessions, group sessions, a specialized meeting schedule (set up accommodations w my care team), along with meditation compliance and food allergen abstinence through alternative diet accommodations & came out a completely different woman. I arrived a shell of who I used to be and came out as the best version of myself and feeling better (mentally/emotionally) than I have in Years - I would absolutely 10/10 recommend this facility for anyone who’s looking to turn their lived around! They not only specialize in substance treatment , but mental health as well, so whether you need one/the other/both, you’ll be in the right hands!
