About North Lawndale Adult Transition Center

North Lawndale Adult Transition Center of the Safer Foundation in Chicago, Illinois, provides a variety of support options for clients who are transitioning from incarceration back into the community. This is a 200-bed inpatient unit.

The center recognizes mass incarceration as a national crisis. They fight to break the system’s barriers that prevent incarcerated individuals from reentering the community.

Court Required Programs

The center offers several court approved programs that are mandated for clients. The anger management class uses cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to help clients regulate their anger and aggressive impulses.

Required mental health programs involve individual and group counseling. Clients may be eligible for virtual sessions.

Required Substance Use Treatment

Substance use disorder counseling here involves assessments required by the court and parole requirements. They’ll regularly test you for the presence of alcohol and drugs in your system.

The center can help you apply for Medicaid or renew your Medicaid. They can also refer you for medical, psychiatric, dental, and vision appointments.

Legal Assistance

The center can offer you legal assistance through mentorship and consultations. They can lead you through the reentry process and get your record sealed. This will be helpful when searching for a home or employment.

Rapid Stabilization during Reentry

The immediate stabilization program involves helping clients apply for Medicaid and SNAP food assistance. State identification, clothing, and transportation will be helpful while searching for employment. The center’s Crossroads Adult Transition Center and other programs can help you find stable housing.

Second Chance Advocate

The center is a second chance advocate. They have provided six different bills to the General Assembly session to create services by government and not for profit programs aimed at preventing clients from reoffending.

I think the staff I encounter was respectful and professional. They gave me the information I needed regarding my relative. I mean they are trying to do a job and they did their job with what I wanted. I did not think they were rude. They appear to be hard working people.
