About On Belay House Plymouth

On Belay House offers hope in Plymouth, Minnesota for adolescent males aged 13 to 18 who are struggling with substance abuse. This residential treatment center is part of the Anthony Louis Center which offers a nurturing and structured environment to foster sobriety and personal growth.

The facility accepts private insurance, state funding and self pay options. They also have sliding fee scales for affordability. While specific costs aren’t publicly detailed, you are encouraged to contact the center for insurance verification or financial aid options.

Primary and Extended Day Options

The facility provides primary and extended care programs with stays ranging from 45 to 60 days for primary treatment and 60 to 120 days for extended care. The length of stay will depend on each client’s clinical needs, environmental factors or legal requirements.

As a resident, you’ll receive 24 hour supervision, all meals and a structured setting that includes clinical groups, psychoeducational lectures, family counseling and recreational activities. Random drug screenings will be done to ensure accountability.

Tailored Programs and Additional Services

The program is tailored to address the unique emotional and social challenges teens face. Teens will learn to develop skills to cope with life’s stresses without turning to drugs or alcohol.

I like that family involvement is encouraged through counseling and family night lectures to strengthen relationships and support recovery. The program also incorporates 12 step therapy and is accredited by SAMHSA and the Minnesota Department of Human Services.

Additional services include vocational training and educational support such as high school coursework or GED preparation. They have a multidisciplinary team that includes licensed counselors and a medical director.

Our son recently was discharged from this facility because he was not following the program. We know it had to do with HIM and his unwillingness to try and don t put any of that on the staff. Everyone was so down to earth, non judgemental, patient and just all around kind to us from the day we reached out. They kept us in the loop with everything that was happening and were always gracious to us during random pop ins or family visits with our other crazy kids. The rooms and especially bathrooms were very well kept and clean, our son LOVED the food, and even though the entire experience was positive for us I think the most impressive thing was how caring and helpful they were when it was time for our son to go. They kept him longer than they had to and made him feel loved and heard in our last meeting together when I picked him up. They also went above and beyond helping us place him in another facility by providing all necessary information, paperwork and referrals etc - things that would ve taken me weeks to do on my own.Thank you for the work you re doing with these kids, On Belay!

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.
sober-living iconSober Living Homes
Sober Living Houses (SLHs), aka sober homes or halfway houses, are safe, substance-free, supportive living facilities for those recovering from substance abuse. Ideal for those who've just been through inpatient or outpatient treatment, SLHs are supervised environments with rules that support sobriety, such as curfews, shared chores, and therapeutic meetings. Residents are also often trained on life skills and coping skills to make it easier to transition into society. SLHs also provide a strong sense of community that can lead to the kind of deep and lasting connections with other sober individuals that supports a new, healthy lifestyle.
12-step icon12-Step
12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug addiction is defined as an inability to stop using drugs even though it causes negative consequences in your life. Drug rehab in Minnesota provides treatment for drug addiction in a variety of settings including inpatient treatment and outpatient treatment.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

LGBTQ Program
Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a clinical approach to helping people with substance abuse issues and other conditions shift behavior in positive ways. It is more goal-oriented than traditional psychotherapy, as MI counselors directly attempt to get clients to consider making behavioral change (rather than wait for them to come to conclusions themselves). Its primary purpose is to resolve ambivalence and help clients become able to make healthy choices freely.

Rational Behavior Therapy (RBT) is a form of cognitive behavioral therapy meant to be short-term and comprehensive. It was intended to help clients become more self-sufficent and move forward without the need for expensive, ongoing therapy. It includes an emotional self-help method called “rational self-counseling,” the purpose of which is to give clients all the skills needed to handle future emotional issues by themselves, or with significantly less professional help.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Accreditations

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) is a branch of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Established in 1992 by congress, SAMHSA's mission is to reduce the impact of substance abuse and mental illness on American's communities.

"As a probation agent working closely with at-risk juveniles, I have had the opportunity to refer several clients to Anthony Louis Center – On-Belay House, and the results have been overwhelmingly positive. This program provides a structured and therapeutic environment effectively addressing substance use and behavioral challenges while fostering personal growth and responsibility. One of the most valuable aspects of On-Belay House is its individualized approach to treatment. The staff takes the time to understand each resident’s unique circumstances, tailoring their interventions to meet specific needs. Many of my clients struggle with co-occurring mental health issues, trauma, or a lack of stable family support, and this program excels at addressing those complex factors through counseling, life skills training, and relapse prevention strategies. Another key strength is the program’s emphasis on accountability and personal development. The structured setting helps youth establish healthy routines, develop coping mechanisms, and build resilience. I have witnessed firsthand how young people who enter the program with little motivation or hope leave with a newfound sense of purpose and confidence. The program also prioritizes family involvement, which is crucial in maintaining long-term success once juveniles’ transition back into their communities. Additionally, the professionalism and dedication of the staff set On-Belay House apart. They are compassionate yet firm, creating an environment where youth feel supported but also challenged to make meaningful changes. Program staff communicate effectively with stakeholders, ensuring that progress updates are timely and that reentry plans are comprehensive and realistic. As an example of staff’s dedication, one of my clients worked through a restorative justice program after completing inpatient treatment, and their assigned counselor drove to their final meeting in-person, which occurred several months after his discharge from inpatient treatment and was an hour-plus drive for the staff. Overall, Anthony Louis Center – On-Belay House is a highly effective program for at-risk youth in need of substance use treatment and behavioral support. I have seen significant positive changes in my clients who have participated, making it a vital resource in helping young individuals get back on track. I highly recommend this program to fellow probation agents and juvenile justice professionals seeking a structured, evidence-based intervention for their clients. "

Don’t believe all the reviews that people be leaving they are just upset because it didn’t workout how they wanted cause they won’t work the program. This place was amazing and they really help you out if you put in the work and they will be by your side at all times no matter what, they helped me find my true self and wipe away my fake persona I had for myself and it is truly benefiting and remember not to count the days and stay as long as you need to truly work on yourself and find yourself and it’s more than worth it.

Response from the ownerInvalid relative date format:
Oh man, you made us all tear up a bit over here.
Like we all said on the last day, you are worth it. We hope you continue to bask in the sun that you have created for yourself and continue to work it the On-Belay not the other-belay way. One day at a time, and bounce back when needed. We are delighted that you are continuing to utilize the skills you have collected to maintain sobriety and will always be your cheerleader.
Don't be a stranger.

This is crazy, I was here back in 1994 when I was 16 years old and me and 2 other crazy white girls took off from this place and made it downtown Mpls., and we had fun, this place was a place that taught you to be on your own, how to cook, how to balance money and stuff to be an adult. We also went to the lake on the weekends and had cookouts and stuff. We also did a lot of soul searching and really expressing our feelings, mind you, I was only there for about 3 weeks when me, Melissa, and Tracey took off and made it downtown and we slept at Melissa's moms friends house and the next day we were at Project Off Streets...lol. OMG!!!! If you want, you can follow me or hear some of my stories of Minneapolis at TikTok....A.alika14MC... this was my experience there at the On-belay House. I was at a different half-way house before this one but I had to leave that one because of the hours of work and how no one would hire me due to my age. Before all that, I was at Hazelden Pioneer House, and this is where I ended up at, and then me and the 2 other girls took off and left for good. lol!!!! Was this a great place, not in the least, but it did give you the purpose to be on your own and survive as well. It was up to us to do all the work that needed to be done to keep us sober. It was different back then as well, and yes I am still sober. Peace!! One Love!!

Response from the ownerInvalid relative date format:
Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We are pleased to see that you remember us from so long ago. We love hearing from past clients, even many years later. Many things have changed, such as On Belay is now a residential adolsecent male facility and we have a sister facility in Blaine for adolscent females.
We encourage you to reach out if you are curious to hear about all the changes over the years. If, by chance, you need assistance with anything, or want to call and say hi, we are here if you need us.

I went here twice not by choice if you or your child are referred to this site advocate against going to this center. I’m 27 now sober and it was based on my own decision making. Forced sobriety doesn’t work.

Response from the ownerInvalid relative date format:
Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. We are discouraged by your statements. Though our staff work diligently to educate and guide the clients through the recovery process by utilizing numberous modalities and emulating what a drug and alcohol free lifestyle may bring, sobriety is not guarenteed. There are numberous factors, such as motivation for change, at play that directly impact ones road to recovery. OnBelay Anthony Louis Center may be the beginning to a long recovery journey for some. Addiction is a disease that is not curable, though we all wish it was that easy.
Onbelay Anthony Louis Center will continue to be there for adolescents any and all steps of the way.
We are honored to have played a part in your recovery process and we congratulate you on your sobriety.
If you are in need of assistance, or want to check in and say hi, feel free to give us a call. We are always here if you need us.

Don't believe everything you read on these reviews. When it comes to addiction we blame everyone but the addicted person. This is especially true when it comes to our kids struggling with substance use disorder. This place gave me my son back. I highly recommend this treatment center.

Response from the ownerInvalid relative date format:
Michael,
As I stated on your other review, we truly appreciate your feedback. We are honored to have played a part in your son's life and are exstatic to hear that he is continuing to do the work. You are correct in identifying that people with a substance use disorder can be challenging at times, but you and your son are examples of the program works if you work it.

You and your son can reach out at anytime. We would love to hear about his continued progress. And if you are in need of assistance, we are here if and when you need us.
