Support for Youth Recovery Housing Services

Along with developing or expanding recovery housing services for young adults, states and territories that accept the one year funding will be able to provide family based treatment. Additionally, they will also be able to provide dedicated care coordinators to help with navigating various service sectors and a wide range of other services like coaching, vocational training, transportation and childcare.

Increasing access to safe, sober housing meets an urgent need for youth in addiction recovery. These programs offer stability, supervision and peer support as teens and young adults work to reintegrate into their communities, complete their education and secure and maintain gainful employment.

Pathways to Lasting Recovery

Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr said, “…a decisive step in reducing homelessness and improving public safety.”

SAMHSA Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary Dr. Art Kleinschmidt points out that three out of four young adults have no housing when they come into the SOR program.

Dr. Kleinschmidt is himself a person in recovery and a former recovery house resident and said, “These investments will ensure that young people experiencing addiction and homelessness have access to those same life-changing opportunities.” Award amounts for all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico will be calculated according to the current SOR formula.

The minimum amount awarded will be $500,000 and the maximum amount awarded will be $2,961,809. Many American-held territories outside the continental US will also receive  $100,000 in funding.
