About Avenues Recovery Center: Drug & Alcohol Rehab – Eastern Shore

This treatment center can start off your recovery journey with detox care. After you’ve detoxed you’ll have an immersive treatment program where you’ll get the personalized care and varied treatment you need for a strong and sustainable recovery. That includes individual therapy and group therapy for starters. There are educational workshops that will teach you about addiction and how it affects your mind and body and will teach you strategies for defeating it. There’s counseling for families and couples, and there are medications that can help with cravings and withdrawal too. Plus there are daily 12 Step meetings and plenty of holistic therapies like art therapy, yoga and meditation.

All of this happens within upscale residential facilities. They have a large property that has plenty of amenities like a basketball court and a premium gym. They have lounge and recreational areas, and there are fun activities on weekends, too, plus they provide local transportation when you need it. When you finish your program they partner with sober living homes in the area to give you a smooth transition to the next step in your journey.

Previous clients rave about the facility and the program. Many say that it’s the reason they have survived and overcome their addiction to lead a healthy and fulfilling life. They say it’s because the counselors and staff here are experts in what they do.

Too often people only leave reviews when they are upset and the positive experiences don’t always get the same attention. I want to take a moment to share a very different perspective. Avenues Recovery is absolutely incredible. I have seen firsthand how deeply this team cares and how hard they fight to save lives. They are not just a treatment center, they are a company of second chances. The staff here show a level of grace, patience, and dedication that is rare to find anywhere. This community is fortunate to have Avenues here. It’s a place to be proud of, and the impact it has goes far beyond the walls of the facility. No place is perfect, but the picture painted by negative reviews is not the full story. What I have witnessed is a group of people who show up every day with compassion and determination to help others start again. I am grateful for the work they do and the lives they continue to impact.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Sliding scale payments are based on a client's income and family size. The goal is to make treatment affordable to everyone. By taking these factors into account, addiction recovery care providers help ensure that your treatment does not become a financial burden to you or your family, eliminating one barrier to care.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Financing your treatment can make treatment more accessible. You'll work with your care provider to set up payment plans, including interest rates and repayment timelines. Financing options vary widely and not all programs offer them, so be sure to get the full details before enrolling in treatment. If you have insurance or other benefits, financing may help you cover your remaining out of pocket expenses.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

inpatient iconInpatient

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient

Clients who are leaving inpatient rehab often choose to transition into an intensive outpatient program (IOP) to receive high-level support as they reintegrate into their home, workplace, and community. Intensive outpatient rehab also benefits those at risk of relapse. Clients typically participate in nine to 20 hours of treatment weekly, with modalities ranging from psychotherapy to addiction and recovery education. Many programs also provide medication assisted treatment (MAT) and complementary care, such as nutrition counseling, and acupuncture.

aftercare iconAftercare Support

Clients receiving support in a rehab aftercare program typically partner with their case manager and care team to identify and access the services that best align with their recovery needs and goals. Rehab aftercare services are designed to evolve with clients' changing needs to promote their long-term sobriety. Care modalities are highly customized and may include a range of medical, mental health, and social service resources, including peer coaching, career counseling, and 12 step program induction.

12-step icon12-Step

12 step programs provide accessible peer coaching for participants at all stages of their recovery journey. Meetings are peer-led, anonymous, free, and available multiple times per day in most communities. Participants also receive one-on-one mentoring by a self-selected sponsor. 12 step recovery is based on spiritual principles, which enable participants to understand their disease, accept responsibility for their choices, and relinquish control over that which is unchangeable. Religious affiliation isn't required and specialized formats are available.

sober-living iconSober Living Homes

Most sober living homes in Maryland are located in peaceful, quiet neighborhoods. These private residences are designed to offer a low-stress but structured environment where residents can focus on their ongoing recovery efforts and receive support to maintain sobriety. Several individuals, all of whom are in recovery, share the halfway house. This type of communal living helps decrease relapse, increase employment rates, and helps individuals hone their recovery skills.

heart-hands iconIntervention Services

If you think a loved one needs help with substance abuse, but they are not seeking treatment, it may be time for a drug intervention in Maryland. Intervention services can help you with this effort. During the intervention, loved ones share how their addiction-related behavior has affected them and encourage the individual to get treatment. The intervention specialist helps facilitate the conversation and explain how treatment can help.

partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program

Commonly known as "day treatment," a partial hospitalization program (PHP) is a short-term intensive rehab option designed to provide treatment during the day and you're able to return home at night. PHP treatment offers structured programming, including individual and group therapy, typically meeting 3-5 days a week for 6-8 hours per day. PHP duration averages around 90 days, with some programs offering amenities like transportation and meals.

medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox

Quitting drugs and alcohol on your own can cause uncomfortable and even dangerous side effects caused by the withdrawal process. In medically assisted detox, a team of licensed medical professionals will monitor your health, provide medication for potential withdrawal symptoms, and work to keep you safe and comfortable. Most people transition to an inpatient program or a maintenance program that uses medication assisted treatment (MAT).

outpatient iconOutpatient

Clients who are exiting detox or intensive inpatient treatment often enroll in outpatient rehab programs to ensure a robust continuity of care. Outpatient programs allow clients to remain in or return to their homes and workplaces while continuing to receive treatment, which typically includes addiction counseling and recovery-focused life skills training. Clients in opioid and/or alcohol recovery may also receive medication assisted treatment (MAT), including medication induction and maintenance, at an outpatient facility.

Treatments

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Alcohol use disorder (AUD), commonly referred to as alcoholism, can be classified as mild, moderate, or severe. Each category involves unhealthy patterns of alcohol consumption and can cause harmful effects. To treat alcohol addiction at any level, alcohol rehab in Maryland is often necessary. These treatment programs provide psychological, social, and medical supports that help individuals overcome alcohol addiction and maintain long-term recovery.

opium iconOpioid Addiction

In Maryland, substance abuse treatment programs support individuals struggling with drugs or alcohol, and those who also have mental health conditions. These rehab programs vary, depending on the level of care you need. That might include inpatient rehab, or an outpatient program. Typically, substance abuse treatment includes evidence-based therapies such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), recovery support meetings, and skills groups to equip you with new coping strategies when you leave rehab.

Maryland's addiction experts understand the importance of dual-diagnosis addiction treatment in their inpatient and outpatient recovery programs. Dual-diagnosis means having two mental health disorders at the same time, like addiction and depression. By treating individuals with co-occurring substance use disorders and mental health conditions simultaneously, they can enhance recovery outcomes and improve overall health, reducing the risk of relapse. Programs include evidence-based therapies, family counseling, recovery support groups, and skills training. Additional services may include medically assisted detox, 12-Step facilitation, equine therapy, complementary treatments, and alumni programs.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image

Adult Program

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image

Young Adult Program

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

equine-therapy iconEquine Therapy

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Four key principles guide motivational interviewing. These are empathy, self efficacy, rolling with resistance, and developing discrepancy. These techniques allow the client to examine their motivations for change, identify discrepancies in their current situation and future goals, and feel empowered to make changes to reach their goals.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

IF I COULD PUT ZERO STARS I WOULD. MY BROTHER WAS 20+ DAYS INTO HIS RECOVERY WHEN THEY MADE HIM GO TO THE HOSPITAL FOR A CROHN'S FLARE UP, HE DID NOT WANT TO GO, AND THEY MADE HIM GO AND THENNNN REFUSED TO TAKE HIM BACK BC THEY DID NOT WANT TO GIVE HIM HIS MEDICATION THAT THEY HAVE TO JUST HAND TO HIM EVERYDAY. WHAT KIND OF RECOVERY CENTER KICKS A PATIENT OUT FOR HIM HAVING CROHNS DISEASE AND NEVER FOUND ANOTHER PLACE FOR HIM TO TRANSFER TO. JUST LEFT HIM OUT ON THE STREET IN THE MIDDLE OF HIS SOBRIETY. THEY HAVE ALSO REFUSED TO DELIVER HIS BELONGINGS WHERE HE IS AN HOUR AWAY EVEN THOUGH THEY MADE HIM LEAVE HIS STUFF AND THEN KICKED HIM OUT KNOWING HE HAS NO CAR OR PLACE TO GO. IF YOU DON'T WANT TO HELP PEOPLE GET SOBER GET ANOTHER JOB!!!!!!!! IF HE RELAPSES I AM GOING TO HAVE A FIELD DAY WITH MY LAWYER FOR ETHICAL AND HIPAA VIOLATIONS!!! DO NOT SEND YOUR LOVED ONES HERE UNLESS THEY TAKE NO MEDICATION AND/OR YOU WANT THEM TO CONTINUE THEIR ADDICTION BECAUSE AVENUES IN CAMBRIDGE DOES NOT CARE IF YOU DIE OR NOT. GREAT ETHICS. GREAT RECOVERY CENTER. YOU SHOULD ALL BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELVES! MAY THE LORD NEVER PUT YOU AND YOUR LOVED ONE IN THIS POSITION, BECAUSE THIS IS CRUEL AND HEARTLESS AND AGAINST EVERYTHING YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO STAND FOR!!! LIVE IN SHAME AS YOU SHOULD.
