About Valley Sober Living – Rivara House

Located in Stockton, California, Valley Sober Living Rivara House offers a structured sober living home where recovery can truly take root. This co-ed residence gives people in early sobriety a safe and clean space to rebuild their lives. While living there, they also learn accountability and basic life skills to improve their long-term life post-recovery.

What to Expect in the Home

You’ll find furnished bedrooms, comfortable common areas, on-site laundry and other home-like amenities included. That means phone, cable, WIFI and utilities are all taken care of and not something that you have to worry about. It’s meant to feel like home but with a solid routine and real accountability for you.

You’re expected to go to work or school or even volunteer while you live here. Chores are shared with everyone living in the house and drug testing is part of the deal. If you’re coming out of rehab or trying to avoid going back this kind of consistency can be a lifeline.

Rooted in Community and the 12 Steps

Rivara House isn’t just about staying sober. It’s about learning how to live again. They really encourage 12 step meeting attendance and give people the space and support to dive deeper into their programs.

Everyone is on their own but they are walking together which brings a really strong sense of community. You won’t feel like you’re going through your journey to recovery alone while you’re here.

Built for the Long Haul

There is also a big emphasis on life skills. Whether it’s managing money or learning how to communicate better all of the residents are given tools to support them in recovery. Some people say this was the first place they ever felt seen and supported and that kind of environment can make all the difference.

I was here a few years ago, and one of the guys that runs the place was wasted and blamed it on the kombucha, and another dude locked me in his room and pushed me down on the bed.. thank god I have reflexes like a cat or it would’ve ended badly. And that’s just a fraction of what I’ve seen. If you wanna stay sober, because it’s possible. Stay the heeeell away from this place! Good luck!

THIS PLACE IS TERRIBLE!!!!!! They let some new person in with a dog and this is how they leave her for hours on end. We have gone to them SEVERAL times about the CONSTANT screaming from their dog, and they have done NOTHING!!!! It’s not even barking, ITS SCREAMING! Who just leaves their dog outside screaming without CHECKING ON HER?! Especially in the RAIN!!!!!!!!!!!! I don’t care if the owner of the dog wasn’t there, BE A DECENT HUMAN BEING AND CHECK ON THE DOG IF SHES YELPING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Anyone who allows this kind of behavior towards animals is a terrible person and I really hope that dog will have a loving home one day far far away from these people!

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

Sober Living Houses (SLHs), aka sober homes or halfway houses, are safe, substance-free, supportive living facilities for those recovering from substance abuse. Ideal for those who've just been through inpatient or outpatient treatment, SLHs are supervised environments with rules that support sobriety, such as curfews, shared chores, and therapeutic meetings. Residents are also often trained on life skills and coping skills to make it easier to transition into society. SLHs also provide a strong sense of community that can lead to the kind of deep and lasting connections with other sober individuals that supports a new, healthy lifestyle.

12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).

Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in California teaches participants constructive ways to stay clean and sober. Treatment revolves around helping individuals stop using the substance they are addicted to and learn healthy habits to avoid relapse.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Programs

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Valley Sober Living's Rivara House emphasizes 12-step participation and recovery lifestyle development, with residents required to attend meetings, work with sponsors, and complete step work as essential elements of the sober living program.

Clinical Services

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

Valley Sober Living requires residents to attend 12-step meetings and actively work a recovery program, including meetings, sponsorship, and step work as core components of the structured sober living model at Rivara House.
