About Geisinger Community Medical Center

At this treatment center they primarily offer addiction treatment for people who have co occurring disorders. That means you have drug or alcohol addiction as well as a mental health or behavioral health condition like depression or schizophrenia or PTSD.

What I find most interesting about this inpatient program is the varied and integrative approach they use. The therapists and specialists here will combine different treatment strategies to give you a one of a kind program. That includes tried and true methods like cognitive behavioral therapy and group counseling. It also includes more expressive and creative methods like art therapy and music therapy and even dance therapy.

It’s also important to note that they take an approach of trauma informed care. The team here understands that you may have trauma in your past and their treatment will be sensitive to this while also aiming to help you heal.

This is an amazing medical center...they are extremely competent in their knowledge and go out of their way to show care. I have been at the some of the highest rated hospital in the United States; dealing with chronic illness in family memebrs and Geisinger community was the best hospital experience I have ever had. Tucked away in Scranton, PA this hospital can truly show the world how this art form is done. We had interactions with the PCU, Vascular, Anasthesia, Infectious disease and everything was across the board consistently top notch treatment- the way we would imagine a hospital should be! Great job!

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Adult Program

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.

Young Adult Program

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

The most negative nasty nurses and doctors around the area. A disgrace to the profession. Deplorable.

If you are neurodivergent, do not come to this hospital. They straight up refuse to take neurodivergency into consideration or accommodate it. If you tell them you're overstimulated and need a break to avoid a meltdown, they say, oh, we'll just hit you with haldol, even though you already told them you have severe adverse reactions to it. We had to postpone important cardiac testing because I couldn't trust their care.

The only reason I am giving 4 stars is because of my first experience months ago where I was in the waiting room with pneumonia for 3 hours, and because it's wild I have to have a card from security put into my bag to prove it was checked already? Anyway, my nursing staff were fantastic, when I came in the ER was empty and it was early in the morning. Everything got done one after another, I wasnt waiting hours for sono then hours for lab just to show up so that was a huge plus.

I was in the hospital for almost one week on the Med-Surg floor #6. The nurses were exceptional, as well as the people who took vitals and the volunteers. I can't say enough good things about them. I can see that the nurses work extremely hard and every one of them was kind and caring.

Currently sitting in the emergency room with my husband it's currently 9:05 pm they did tests and we are waiting for either a doctor or PA to see him... We've been here for over 3 hours and nothing... We get told they see patients by arrival time among other factors... Think it's absolutely ridiculous, especially since you can do a test and the complaint but haven't came to talk to a patient... And it doesn't seem so busy at the moment.... So I don't know something got to give
