About Geisinger Community Medical Center

The Geisinger Behavioral Health Center Northeast is a specialized health facility for behavioral health care including drug and alcohol addiction. It’s an inpatient treatment center so you’ll live in the facility during your program.

At this treatment center they primarily offer addiction treatment for people who have co occurring disorders. That means you have drug or alcohol addiction as well as a mental health or behavioral health condition like depression or schizophrenia or PTSD.

What I find most interesting about this inpatient program is the varied and integrative approach they use. The therapists and specialists here will combine different treatment strategies to give you a one of a kind program. That includes tried and true methods like cognitive behavioral therapy and group counseling. It also includes more expressive and creative methods like art therapy and music therapy and even dance therapy.

It’s also important to note that they take an approach of trauma informed care. The team here understands that you may have trauma in your past and their treatment will be sensitive to this while also aiming to help you heal.

I've been in the hospital now here for over 2 weeks the nurses doctors and staff are incredible. They took very good care of me even though I was so sick and hard to deal with. I recommend if you have to go spend time at a hospital this is the one you want to go to show me hospital I ever used or went to in the last 25 years. I can't say enough good things how clean helpful caring the staff is. It's a five-star hospital 5

The nurses: Jon and Richard, and the charge nurse Lindsey-on the 6th floor were amazing. I went in with chronic pain that would just get worse and worse. The doctors had a stigma that I was just after pain medicine. They left me in the room all day since 7am without anything for pain or to make me feel comfortable. After 23 surgeries, I think I know pain when I feel it and I have a realistic grasp on when I can no longer take it. My husband told them how bad I get at home. My own mother spoke up and still nothing. I was treated like a sad druggy. They labeled me before I could even explain or show them all of my scars. I was discriminated against. I m pretty sure it s because I m a woman, a minority, a little tan, educated, and I knew what I was saying. The ironic thing is I have worked in the medical field for many years and this was the first time this happened to me. I didn t sleep. Couldn t eat. Sweated all night and just lay in a ball because no one could get off of their lazy bottoms and find me the help I needed. The nurses kept apologizing to me and watched me cry out in pain and in misery. They called the doctor on call and he had the nerve to still say no. The nurse then called the attending physician who then realized what was happening and he decided to help. Thank you to you and the nurses I may be able to sleep 3 hours before my procedure. Oh but btw the attendee only did it as a one time favor. What is this??? So I have to stay here in chronic pain while the physicians have the nerve to tell me how my pain feels. Sorry not sorry! That is not even acceptable. Shame on you. I was just starting to like GMC. Thank you to the nurses who vouched for me and spoke up. You guys are truly the real MVP s. Worst visit of my life. Run run run the other way.!!! Again!! This time with my lower back, head, and bronchitis.

Worst hospital ever. The nurses here are extremely unprofessional, and everyone needs to be retrained or inspected.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.

Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Super slow. Er staff was better than the hospital. My mom was admitted to the hospital at 5am and she never recieved breakfast nor was she asked if she needed anything by our nurse. And they rarely came to check up on us. During the course of my time here there was another patient on the other side. They changed her around 9am and didn't come by again to clean until almost 4pm.

I have been here 5 hours. All the people who came in after me have been treated and left already. This is so ridiculous. There is absolutely no reason for this. It's called lazy.

They will try to take your baby no matter what so no go here for your child’s birth. I warn you. Do not go here. And if they reply to me I will show that. They kept asking over and over if I did drugs which I did not. And still tried to take my boy. My bf threatened a lawyer and they backed down so do not go here. They are not here to help you. My baby is 7 years old and thriving not any help of this hospital most certainly

On Saturday, April 6, 2024, I was visiting my boyfriend on the fourth floor of the hospital. A transport aide, Jessica Lopez, who used to live in my building, repeatedly walked past the room with her phone in her hands and entered the room twice without any patients being transported. Despite the fact that visitors were present, she continued to look inside the room, prompting me to look back at her. She then made an inappropriate remark, suggesting that I take a picture to preserve the moment. I believe that this behavior is unprofessional and disruptive to the peaceful environment that patients and their families expect during their visits. I kindly request that you investigate this incident and take appropriate action to ensure that such behavior does not occur again. I would appreciate it if you could provide me with the contact information for the appropriate person to discuss this matter further on Monday. Thank you for your attention. 4/17/25 I went to the hospital today with my daughter. I saw something on the arm of the chair in the waiting room, so I asked the girl behind the desk for wipes. The stuff that came off that arm rest was horrifying 😳. I sat in my car until they took my daughter to the back. It was so nasty .Clean these seats and arms rest. I washed the skin off my body when I got home.
