I have been going here for all my health care needs for 10 or 12 years now and have had nothing but good experiences. I would recommend it to anyone. I had to go to the ER last Saturday night with a nasty blood blister on my great toe at 2 AM. They saw me right away, did the x-rays, scans and so on. The Podiatrist saw me first thing in the morning, got all bandaged up, and I drove myself home. The whole staff was terrific. Very pleased with all of it.

I went to the Emergency Room with a knee which had been keeping me awake at night for about a week. I spoke with the Dr. (Terry) I believe and I pretty much tied her hands because I wanted no drugs. She then went out of her way to get me an appointment with Ortho but before she released me, she explained a few things concerning the meds she wanted me to take......I trusted her as she asked me and before I could complete my 30 minute drive home......I had pain relief that had me excited about getting home and going to sleep......without my knee hurting so badly that sleep avoided me. I just want to send out a Big Thank you to VA hospital on Irving St. you all took great care of me and I'm grateful......Thank you so much Dr. Terry 🌹

The Washington Hospital Center is full of the most caring and empathetic personnel I have ever encountered in a hospital. From top to bottom, it’s a warm, friendly atmosphere at a time when you need it the most. It’s not a cold unfriendly atmosphere, but one where if you look lost you will be rescued by people who know you need help and will do so in the most caring manner. I have seen this consistently when I have been an outpatient there.

As a photographer being at loose ends awaiting a Peace Corps assignment in Africa, Ron asked me to set up a photo program, and build a darkroom to encourage people in the RAP program to develop those skills to help take their minds off heroin. In the process I witnessed some pretty harrowing cold turkey withdrawal by young folks on a couch just outside the darkroom. Unforgettable. If I remember, RAP was then located up behind the Hilton in Adams Morgan.

After two years of some discomfort with a broken wisdom tooth, I finally decided it was time to get it removed. My visit with Dr. Buck was exceptional from beginning to end. The front desk representative Delia greeting me with a smile giving assurance my visit will be delightful. The dental assistant Ricki got me settled, seated and prepared for my extraction. Ricki was comforting she kept me smiling and laughing while I waited for the anesthesia to kick in. My procedure took about 40 minutes. I’m delighted to say I felt no pain during the procedure, other than the injection of the anesthesia I didn’t feel any puncturing on my gums, this to say the tooth was taken in three pieces. There was no soreness afterwards, there no need for the pain medication provided or to take a day off. Dr. Buck did wonders! He is absolutely of the best dentist here at Whitman-Walker and to be honest in the DMV! If you have to in his waitlist I believe it’s worth it.

The front desk staff initially had to book my appointment several weeks out, but called me back a few hours later when there was a cancelation and I was able to get in sooner.
