They achieve their mission through publication of relevant studies, investing in prevention research, and facilitating campaigns that take substance prevention from an individual struggle to a collaborative effort.

SAMHSA’s Prevention Toolkit and Resources

For Substance Use Prevention Month 2025, SAMHSA has made a web-based toolkit available for anyone who wants to join the effort.

Available on the SAMHSA website, this toolkit provides open source shareable material which you can use to help raise awareness as well as resources you can deploy to help protect someone in your community.

Resources for Raising Awareness

The first set of resources are graphics and templates that promote substance use prevention month. These include one set of posters you can share across your social media channels, a quick guide on how best to share these posters, and PowerPoint templates for meetings or classes.

They’ve also admirably included a list of other observances that happen in October, to ensure that other important issues get airtime too.

Helpful Guides, Strategies, and Resources

SAMHSA’s Substance Use Prevention Month 2025 toolkit features links to materials and tools you can use to help individuals of all ages engage in prevention planning in a variety of settings. Their “Talk, They Hear You” tool is particularly powerful.

It arms parents, caregivers and educators with the best info and strategies to use when speaking to teens and children about addiction. The website also gives information on major prevention campaigns and events, and links to several prevention websites for states and US territories.
