(Excuse the screen name, my son created this and I don t know how to change it.)My review is coming from a daughter whose mother went to this center. I am solely writing this based on my experience with the staff while my mother was in treatment.FIRSTLY, dropping her off, my sister and I waited over two hours while they did their intake process with her. Whoever is dropping you off must stay there until they re completed with intake, which is no problem. However, when they took her back, they didn t give us any information as to what they were doing and how long the process would take, so make sure you have at least 2 hours set aside for that. When they were done with the intake, they took her back right away without providing any additional information or details of what the next 15 days would look like for her. I had to speak up and ask questions and the lady said, oh, you don t already know this information? NO, no we didn t know this information or hardly information at all. She proceeds to explain that for the next 4 days while in detox they will be giving her, drug that she was there trying to get off of..which was baffling. I asked when she would be able to use the phone to call home and she said, Wednesdays and on the weekend, only 5 min phone calls. I left there feeling unsettled about where I just dropped my mother off at.About two days in, my mom calls me and tells me she is being moved to residential, she had to demand that they stop giving her the drug she was there trying to get off.The day after Christmas my mom calls me and tells me that she s going on 3 days of hardly any sleep due to having restless legs and there is nothing they can do for her. As you could imagine, she wanted to come home. My mother is wanting to come home from rehab b/c the place she went to, who assured her that they would take care of her, she would be comfortable and would not suffer, WAS NOT HELPING HER. I know that rehab wasn t going to be easy, but when she called prior and asked that a doctor would be available to provide any medication needed, they assured her that a doctor would be accessible to her during her 15 days which was a COMPLETE LIE!! As a concerned daughter, I called the nurse line. I get connected with a nurse and I nicely asked if this was the nurse working and seeing my mom that day, nurse didn t confirm or deny, she responds with, what s up? ..I said, what s up? What s up is that my mom just called me wanting to come home b/c she hasn t slept in days due to restless legs. I am calling to see if there is anything you could possibly do so we can keep her there? She goes on this rant about how they don t have a doctor on site 24/7 and that they require the residents to exhaust all their resources prior to seeing a doctor. In my head, I am thinking what does that mean as she doesn t have a phone, car, laptop, etc, things you need to use your resources. So I kindly asked what that meant and she nurse proceeds to tell me, stop talking and listen to me. I bit my tongue and I listened, after 2 mins of her going on and on, I finally said, you know what, you listen to me, I am calling you as a concerned daughter who s mother is in rehab SHE HANGS UP ON ME. I knew once the call ended that I was going to pick her up. Long story short, I get there, they bring my mom out and my mom asked me what the nurses name was that hung up on me and I said Jessica. (Little did I know, the nurse was the one who let me in the door) The nurse said, I did not hang up on you. She proceeds to bicker back and forth with me and my mom. Finally I said, you are the reason why I am picking my mother up, listen to the way you re talking to me right now. If you re talking to ME this way, I can ONLY imagine how you speak to these residents.PLEASE don t take your loved ones here, I promise you, they won t make it through the entire required time. Nothing but hot tea and water to drink , nothing but crackers and peanut butter and apples oranges and bananas to eat no food at all in the rooms . No music in rooms to help sooth you when your trying to sleep when you don t have the correct meds was horrible . Pillows and mattress like pancakes . Accepted Insurance

Sacred Heart Rehabilitation Center Serenity Hills Recovery & Wellness Center works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Clients receiving care at an outpatient rehab remain in their own homes and attend treatment as often as daily, depending on the level of need. Outpatient care generally consists of psychotherapy, addiction education, life skills training, and community reintegration support. Many outpatient treatment centers provide step-down care, including partial hospitalization (PHP), intensive outpatient (IOP), sober living, and standard outpatient services. Some outpatient rehabs also offer ambulatory medical detox and medication assisted treatment (MAT).
inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Clients engaged in a rehab aftercare program have already completed high-level treatment and have begun to develop essential recovery skills. Rehab aftercare services are designed to support clients' sustained sobriety as they reintegrate into their home, workplace, and community. Case managers, care teams, and clients design the customized service portfolio that will best support the client's long-term sobriety. Clients may receive peer coaching, 12 step program induction, vocational training, and relapse prevention services.
12-step icon12-Step
12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).
sober-living iconSober Living Homes
Sober living homes in Michigan act as a bridge between an intensive level of care and the freedom of independent living. The primary rule in every sober living home is to stay sober. If a resident breaks this rule, they can be evicted. However, this environment is designed to prevent relapse, with mutual support, 12-step meetings, a structured schedule, and drug screenings.
heart-hands iconIntervention Services
During a drug intervention in Michigan, family, friends, and colleagues share in their own words how a person's substance abuse has affected their lives. An intervention must be carefully planned, with the goal of encouraging the individual to get treatment for their addiction. Many rehab programs offer intervention services to help families prepare for this confrontation and guide them through the recovery process.
partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program
While many people know it as "day treatment", a partial hospitalization program (PHP) offers treatment during the day and allows you to live at home. PHP treatment typically requires a commitment of at least 20 hours of treatment every week, with a program duration that spans approximately 90 days. While commuting is necessary, some programs offer telehealth options. PHP treatment plans usually include relapse prevention, medication management, and behavioral therapy.
24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care
At certain points in the recovery process, it's important to have support available 24/7. 24-hour clinical care offers a safe environment in which to recover from drug or alcohol addiction in peace, knowing medical detox and other treatment will happen with professionals on hand.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Sacred Heart addresses the need for safe, medically monitored detoxification that stems from the dangerous physical symptoms that can accompany withdrawal. Depending on the nature of the drug of choice, the pattern of use and the medical history of the client, withdrawal can be traumatic to critical body functions and systems. The facility can treat the symptoms of withdrawal in a safe environment that is equipped and staffed for the effective management of those symptoms. Providing these necessary elements we can assist a client in completing a safe detoxification.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in Michigan provides personalized treatment to help individuals break this cycle and regain control of their lives. Treatment methods are used in various levels of care, including inpatient rehab, partial hospitalization programs, intensive outpatient programs, and standard outpatient treatment.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Addiction often involves intense situations and emotions. Dialectical behavior therapy helps you understand and regulate your emotions and better manage the situations that evoke those feelings. You'll receive mindfulness training and stress management training to cope more effectively with difficult emotions.

Group therapy sessions in Michigan allow you to share responsibility with your peers in a group setting. This fosters a collective commitment to achieve sobriety and learn coping skills that are essential to improving your relationships and reducing your stress levels.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a clinical approach to helping people with substance abuse issues and other conditions shift behavior in positive ways. It is more goal-oriented than traditional psychotherapy, as MI counselors directly attempt to get clients to consider making behavioral change (rather than wait for them to come to conclusions themselves). Its primary purpose is to resolve ambivalence and help clients become able to make healthy choices freely.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Both internal and external factors can put stress on a relationship. Couples therapy helps you and your partner work through those stressors and find healthy ways to deal with challenges as they arise.

This treatment felt like jail, or being in the hole in jail. Did not make it past detox. I threw up several time on the floor next to the bed. Nursing would walk by and ask if I was ok. With throw up coming out of my mouth and nose. I shook my head yes, and they walked away. They don’t give you your meds unless you go get them. They dont inform you what med time is or when you can get them. No TV no radio. Nothing to stimulate your mind. It is so quiet, all you hear is the vents pushing air. Hands-down one of the worst detox as I ever have been to. Short of one nurse that was a sweetheart the staff really don’t care. It is sad. I hope they change their personal and actually try to help people.

This place should be shut down until they have implemented a "0 tolerance" policy for violence, bullying and intimidation. People should be in a SAFE place when they're trying to rehab!! You can't work on healing yourself and working the program when you're constantly being threatened and physically attacked by other patients. You can't allow predators in there and expect the program to be a success.

The staff here is so respectful, and makes you feel like an actual human with feelings and emotions. They gave me the freedom to ask questions and experience my emotions freely, and they gave me the base that I have built almost 3 years of sobriety on. I anticipate many more because of the resources I gained here with the staff and the people I experienced my two weeks with. I recommend this place to everyone who needs rehabilitation from ANY drugs or alcohol.

I was facing a probation violation. I was then given a choice go to court or go to rehab. I chose rehab. I went to sacred hearts to work the system. To meet minimum requirements and go home. I had no intentions of making any real changes to my lif. Addiction wasn't my problem, the courts were. I have struggled for 10 years with meth and heroin addiction. And never wanted to stop using. After a couple days my mind had begun to change. The staff is very knowledgeable and very empathetic.. many of them have a history with addiction of one kind of another. I found inspiration in that. Recovery is possible! They give you so many tools to work on your addiction. Starting with the basics of the possible causes of addiction. But the real magic is the way the place operates as a whole. As a family. Clients and staff alike. I have never known a sense of belonging as what I found there. They have truly changed my life. They changed me. I came to work the system now I left knowing the system works. Thank you and God bless the staff and all the clients still there. You will be in my prayers. To anyone who's is, or knows someone considering recovery, this is the right place. If you want it, sacred hills can't help you. They may just save your life. They saved mine.
