About Tropical Texas Behavioral Health

The Harlingen Outpatient Clinic in Harlingen, Texas, is one of Tropical Texas Behavioral Health’s (TTBH) clinics that provides substance use and alcohol addiction treatments alongside several other behavioral healthcare services. Their program seeks to give access to these treatments to as many people as possible, which they do through telehealth. They also place a high priority on reaching adolescents and pregnant women who struggle with substance use disorder (SUD), as well as individuals who’ve been legally ordered to seek rehabilitation services.

Providing Individualized Solutions

Their program starts with a screening to evaluate your treatment needs. At this point, they’ll get you started with either outpatient therapy or an intensive outpatient program. You’ll have a structured set of face to face or remote therapy sessions, and they can also offer medically assisted detox if you’re at an early stage in your recovery. If a person’s needs are too intensive for this outpatient clinic, TTBH can refer them to a facility that’s better equipped to provide the necessary treatment.

Committed to Sustainable Care

TTBH works alongside contracted partners to offer an aftercare program for people who have been through the initial phases of detox and recovery. With this, they seek to provide their patients with the support they need to sustain long term sobriety.

Come see for yourself because we all have our own opinion; not everyone experiences the same These are great doctors. They have treated me with respect, and even when I was upset, they were professional and understanding. They will help you as much as they can. The caseworker is awesome. I appreciate his honesty and his support, as he will always give me great advice and hope. Prescriptions are given quickly when needed as soon as possible. They will work with your work schedule as well. I'm assuming the bad reviews are from those who didn t give this place a chance or someone who had one bad experience. I have been with Tropical for 7 years now. I know it was a bit much for me at the beginning, but give it a chance; you ll learn to grow as you seek the help you need. You ll get to see how much these doctors do care, and they are doing their best to help you. Of course, like all hospitals and offices, it will be busy, and that s not their fault, and they can only do so much, so I say come by and see for yourself if you're experiencing mental health issues. My doctor is nice; he cared for my sickness and had someone check my stomach. My psychiatrist is nice. I recommend anyone. Don t listen to these bad comments; trust me. Seek your own opinion. I honestly don t understand what these people want from a behavioral health facility. When they do all they can, everyone gets busy, and when they don t answer your call, big deal; call them back. I ve read these ridiculously bad comments.

This is ridiculous! Taking advantage of people's mental health! This is not the first time! Must be nice to not answer a phone call and just send to your machines! Must be nice not having to own up to your mistakes Tropical and act like it's the clients fault! They are in need of your help not your pity! This will be definitely the last time I refer someone to your place of business! This world is hard enough as it is! Especially for people with mental disabilities! You're supposed to be a place where people can get help and they're trusting you with their care! Not every place is sympathetic and compassionate about your needs and Tropical is one of them!

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Sliding scale payments are based on a client's income and family size. The goal is to make treatment affordable to everyone. By taking these factors into account, addiction recovery care providers help ensure that your treatment does not become a financial burden to you or your family, eliminating one barrier to care.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Available to adult and adolescent male and females. Individuals eligible for services meet diagnostic criteria for substance use disorders, and do not require a more structured setting to maintain sobriety. It enhances the quality of life by empowering individuals to achieve their highest possible potential for dignity, independence, and self-fulfillment.
heart-hands iconIntervention Services
A drug intervention in Texas may be necessary if your loved one is in denial about a substance use disorder. You can partner with intervention services to plan and execute an effective intervention that educates your loved one about addiction and encourages them to get the treatment they need. Many rehab centers offer intervention specialists who can facilitate the intervention and help with a seamless transition to inpatient rehab for treatment.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

During rehab in Texas, you'll deal with underlying issues that contribute to addiction. By addressing these challenges and learning healthy ways to cope with them, you'll develop strategies that help you live a drug-free lifestyle.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
military-program thumbnail image
Military Program
Serving in the military is both mentally and physically challenging, and can result in trauma that persists even after combat ends. Military programs are tailored to the specific and often complex needs of active duty personnel, veterans, and military families. Clients often access these programs through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Family Support Services focus on family needs as they relate to the consumer. All family members need support as they live with and care for a family member with a disability. Family Support Services helps families help themselves. This support and advocacy network of families and professionals includes family education classes and support groups.

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

If your looking for quick medication they are great. If you're struggling with thoughts of self harm or anything dangerous to yourself or others thay can probably help. If you just want therapy or counseling you're better off looking elsewhere.

Would not recommend. Case worker assigned to help my brother was of no help and offered no assistance when needed. I was recommended I speak to her supervisor and still no response from them. I directed my issues and concerns about my brother several times to them but nothing was done or they were not even addressed. I even spoke to their nurses as it had involved his meds no response. They just don't care about the individual and how they are doing. They really don't seem to follow up on the well being of their clients.
