About BayCare Behavioral Health- Life Management Center (Tampa)

BayCare accepts private insurance as well as Medicare and Medicaid. If you do not have insurance, they have a sliding fee scale for treatment. No one is ever turned away because they cannot pay.
They offer detoxification assistance to people who have severe withdrawal issues. They can also prescribe medications for people with certain psychological conditions. If you have opiate use disorder, they can administer doses of withdrawal medication until you can take it on your own.

They can provide intervention assistance if you have a friend or relative whom you believe has a substance problem. Intervention can involve training family members on how to talk to someone with a substance use disorder. Some interventions involve a therapist talking directly to a person who may have substance issues.

You will be assigned to a case manager when you go in for your initial assessment. You may have occasional meetings with the case manager to monitor your progress.

Each client has individual therapy, but the specific treatment method that they use will be tailored to you. They offer an aftercare program that may include group therapy and community 12 Step meetings that provide ongoing support after your treatment program ends.

They do not care about your behavior, or your health. My psychiatrist abruptly denied my prescription for my anti-psychotics and anti-depressants I have been on for 5 years with no warning or chance to look for another provider. I am going through withdrawals. I am bipolar and schizophrenic.

Review for BayCare Valrico – Behavioral Health (Bloomingdale location) The services and doctors at this location can be very good, but unfortunately the first point of contact is often the front desk and that experience has been consistently negative because of one person in particular, Damaris. From my very first visit, her attitude has been rude, dismissive, and unprofessional. I bring all three of my children here, so I deal with her often. Instead of answering questions or helping me navigate scheduling, she cuts me off, talks down to me, and speaks with an arrogant tone. When I try to clarify or explain that I am following what the doctor advised, she responds with hostility and acts as if she’s “in charge.” Even the doctors have acknowledged that “she can be like that,” which tells me this behavior is not new. On multiple occasions, I have left feeling disrespected and frustrated, which is not what families should experience in a healthcare setting. The most concerning part is that when I asked to speak with a manager, she handed me the manager’s card with a smile, almost as if it was a game, and when I asked for her name, she gladly wrote it down “with pleasure” in a very arrogant way showing no accountability or fear of consequences. BayCare should address this issue seriously, because one person’s negative attitude at the front desk can ruin the entire patient experience.

Customer service!!! Really? One of the worse!! They respond in a rude manner and tone over the phone. There's no coordination between the appointment instructions given by therapists to patients and the appointment instructions at the front desk. My experience in this regard is negative. I haven't been able to communicate with the therapist, and now I don't know what to do to make up for the appointments I had to cancel. In this regard, the experience has been terrible. They don't treat me in person and speak that way, despite having received the same response. Just as constructive criticism: How do patients who had to cancel their appointments manage to book new ones and continue treatment? They need better organization. Regarding treatment management, it should be individualized, meaning a patient who isn't addicted isn't treated as if they were. I find it out of place, uncomfortable, and worrying not to receive the appropriate treatment for that type of patient. Treating a patient like that without being addicted seems like a type of discrimination to me. I hope your service improves. Thanks! Have a nice day!

Accepted Insurance

BayCare Behavioral Health- Life Management Center (Tampa) works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox

Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in Florida provides quality treatment to help individuals overcome dependency related to a wide range of addictive substances. Programs address both the physical and mental aspects of addiction in order to help you make a full recovery.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image

Adult Program

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image

Young Adult Program

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Therapists who apply cognitive behavioral therapy in Florida believe patient thoughts and behaviors are closely linked. They use this treatment method to help clients change their thought patterns so they can also change behaviors and break free from substance abuse.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a clinical approach to helping people with substance abuse issues and other conditions shift behavior in positive ways. It is more goal-oriented than traditional psychotherapy, as MI counselors directly attempt to get clients to consider making behavioral change (rather than wait for them to come to conclusions themselves). Its primary purpose is to resolve ambivalence and help clients become able to make healthy choices freely.

Trauma therapy helps you work through the psychological impact that traumatic events have had on your life. Your therapist helps you identify the physical, emotional, and mental triggers and develop coping mechanisms. This helps rebuild a sense of safety and trust in yourself and others.

I have had such a wonderful experience with Baycare! But I have to give a great amount of gratitude to Evelyn whom works for Dr. Jackson. She is always going above and beyond to take care of our needs. She's always there to answer the phone and help me with any questions or whatever I may need and if I ever leave message she immediately calls me back or takes care of the matter! She is such an asset to the Baycare team! Thank you for everything!!!

After having a discussion with my PCP (he has been my PCP for over 20 years ), we decided I needed to meet with a psychiatrist to manage my anxiety medications. I was currently on Prozac and I would get 60 Xanax a YEAR and I would use these when I had really bad anxiety days, my anxiety has been very high as of late and no matter the tools Ive learned its been a struggle and is affecting me. In 2021 I almost died from COVID, I have 2 children that are in law enforcement here in Tampa and with our current times I just feel a little overly anxious and the sensations of the anxiety and the lump in my throat are bad! I met with Dr Lopez on Friday May16th for the first time, we had a good conversation and decided on a treatment plan of removing my current meds of Prozac and Xanax(ONLY RECEIVE 60 TABLETS A YEAR) and placing me on Klonopin taking 1/2 a pill in the am and 1/2 in the pm, I was advised by Dr Lopez to surrender my Prozac and Xanax I had remaining to the pharmacy, the pharmacy would not release the new meds until I surrendered the Xanax which was fine. I'm rocking along feeling a little groggy maybe moving at a little slower pace but feeling so much less anxious, I thought I will see how we feel once the month is up as far as being groggy and slow and then I ran out of medication, what, why what do I do now? Well I call the number provided on the pretty brochure they hand you on your first appointment only to continually leave message after message with no return calls. I call the pharmacy and by at this time now Im 4 days with no medication and my brain hurts and i'm sooooooooo sad, the crying and the inability to have quality of life is now in the hands of someplace that refuses to help me and my mental health and fill a NARCOTIC that they put me on!!!! Finally a lady was very nice to me and she kept sending me to Daisy's voicemail, apparently Daisy is support for Dr Lopez, I left messages everyday even twice a day. My Publix pharmacy was even trying to help me with no results.I get a call 6 days after having no medication from Daisy and she said I need to know why your out of medication because we give you enough to last each day until your next appointment. I told Daisy I was given 15 pills to take 1/2 each day I picked up the prescription on May 16th and ran out on May 31 taking them as prescribed and then 2 days later I finally get 15 to make it to my appointment which will be on June 20th. The day of my appointment comes and I have no more pills, once again Im feeling a little sluggish and tired but I had to start again on the pills so I don't really know how and if they are good for me yet. I go in and there are 2 ladies with VERY POOR PEOPLE SKILLS sitting behind the window and I'm told they called me to cancel my appointment and I stated no you did not and shoed my phone but that doesn't even matter at this point I wonder how will I get a refill on my medication and she and her little friend beside her look at me and she said my medication is not her problem I need to schedule an appointment and I said can you please be nice I feel like you are not listening to me and understanding that I need to know what to do and again she was ignorant ad treated me as if I was a drug addict looking to score and also she had control of my brain as did this whole place. I knew I had to calm down but was hurting so bad that I don't know what to do I cant control my crying so I call my doctors office and vent she cant help but she listened and for that I will never forget her!!!

Absolutely the worst customer service experience ever. I called over a week ago to have meds changed do to reaction to them. Called today only to be told “we called you, it’s documented” I explained I never received a call. Then I asked what phone number would be calling so I can be on a look out for it. “I’m not going to go back and forth with you, make an appointment or don’t” Wowwww. The worst behavioral management ever

Thank you to Francis and Evelyn. My grandson needed to transition from the Countryside office to the Tampa office which I was dreading. Francis and Evelyn took extra care to make it easy. Very kind, understanding and know how important their jobs are so he does not miss any medication. Thanks very much. Both ladies need a raise.

I have tried to clear up an insurance and billing problem with office with no satisfaction. My insurance company was Aetna. After about 6 years I was charged out of network. Baycare insisted that Chedelie Jones is in network and Aetna insist that she is not. The BayCare office never informed me that there was a problem. No one in the office can answer my questions. I was also on the phone with billing for 2 hours and they cannot solve the problem either. I am very disappointed in the professional ism of BayCare Behavioral Health.

I do not suggest going here. They're not interested in refilling medications they're only interested in putting people on antidepressants even when they're not depressed. Wasting taxpayers money and also putting people at risk allowing them to go off their necessary meds previously prescribed and well documented and justifiable. Don't waste your time
