Levels of care include detox, residential drug and alcohol rehab, and outpatient programs. Each program and level of care includes a comprehensive assessment, individualized treatment plan, and evidence-based therapies, like cognitive behavioral therapy, or dialectical behavioral therapy. You’ll also attend recovery support groups, receive family counseling, and beneficial skills training to help you promote your mental health and sustain long-term recovery.
Mental Health and Substance Abuse
In Massachusetts, dual-diagnosis rehabs are usually the appropriate solution to treat co-occurring mental health and substance abuse disorders. Levels of Care
Inpatient
Located in historic West Falmouth, Emerson house offers Inpatient Residential Care for women. The length of stay is individually determined, with an average stay of 6 to 10 weeks for adult women, and six months to one year for pregnant or post-partum women. Recovery is greatly enhanced when families understand the illness and learn how they can care for themselves and be supportive of the patient’s recovery. Families participate in weekly education sessions, family counseling, and family continuing care options. This program aims to expand self-awareness, identify family dynamics and improve communication skills.
Medically Assisted Detox
Medically supervised detox is the process of removing addictive substances from your body and managing the withdrawal symptoms in a medically supervised environment. Typically, this is the first step in the recovery process and lasts an average of 5-7 days, though the length can vary depending on your individual needs. Once your system is cleared of alcohol and drugs, you’ll likely transition to an inpatient treatment program for the next phase of your recovery.
Intervention Services
An Intervention is a structured and well-planned meeting between the addicted person and meaningful people in his or her life. While the primary goal of an intervention is to motivate the addicted person to treatment, it also leads to positive results for family and friends. With the help of a Gosnold certified interventionist, family and friends present their concerns in a caring and non-judgmental manner to the loved one who is suffering. The addicted person needs objective feedback about their addiction, and an intervention is a safe and compassionate option.
12-Step
Recovery models based on 12 step programs feature extensive peer coaching and emphasize personal growth as a key to sustained sobriety. Regular attendance at 12 step meetings, which are anonymous, free, and available daily, is expected. The 12 steps of recovery are based on spiritual principles and support participants in addressing the root causes of their disease, accept responsibility for their choices, and accept that which is beyond their control. Self-selected sponsors provide one-one-mentoring.
Aftercare Support
Gosnold is committed to your health and well-being. Their support services team is proud to be your connection to their growing recovery community. Leading the way in treatment innovations and support services, Gosnold offers a variety of outstanding resources to support sustained recovery like the Gosnold Smartphone App and the Recovery Support Program where members of Gosnold’s recovery community are encouraged to join their monthly community meetings and weekly support groups.
Sober Living Homes
A sober living home offers a supportive environment where individuals in recovery provide mutual support as they share household responsibilities. Residents participate in 12-step programs and offer accountability for sobriety. To remain in men’s or women’s sober living, individuals must remain drug and alcohol-free, contribute to chores, attend support group meetings, and help cover expenses to live in the home.
Outpatient
Outpatient programs are designed for clients who are medically stable and not at an elevated risk of relapse, including those who have already completed inpatient care. Outpatient programs typically advance clients’ established treatment plans, offering continuing addiction counseling and recovery education. Clients who enter outpatient care immediately following detox may also receive medical and mental health assessments and personalized treatment plans. Most outpatient rehabs provide multiple levels of care to align with clients’ unique needs.
Clinical Services
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.
Creative Arts Therapy
Creativity is inherently healing, and can help those in recovery express thoughts or feelings they might not otherwise be able to. Creative arts therapy can include music, poetry/writing, painting, sculpting, dance, theater, sandplay, and more. Unlike traditional art, the final product matters far less than the experience of creation and expression itself.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.
Experiential Therapy
Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members. Each Gosnold outpatient clinic offers a variety of specialized group therapy sessions. Each group is facilitated by a Gosnold clinician who guides the group discussion.
Individual Therapy
Individual Counseling for a variety of substance use and mental health conditions is conducted by licensed and experienced clinicians and treatment is tailored to the needs of the individual patient. Quality, Affordable Treatment For the Life of clients Recovery.
Nutrition Therapy
Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.
Trauma Therapy
Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.
