About New Life Counseling and Coaching- West Des Moines Office

New Life Counseling and Coaching is a faith based outpatient facility in West Des Moines, Iowa, that offers mental health and addiction treatment. Adolescents, adults, couples and families are able to seek treatment here. Dr. Don Gilbert founded the facility in 2002 which integrates Christian principles with evidence based practices to foster healing and personal growth.

The facility accepts private insurance and self pay. Payment will be due at the time of service.

Array of Counseling Services

The center provides individual, group, family and couples counseling to address issues like depression, anxiety, substance use disorders and relationship challenges. I like that they schedule your sessions in advance and they are about 45-55 minute sessions.

They use evidence based treatment modalities such as cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing and addiction counseling. Your counseling sessions will be tailored to your unique needs.

Their specialized services include court ordered treatment, anger management and faith based coaching. The faith based coaching that is certified by the John Maxwell Team. They also offer telehealth for accessibility and conduct workshops, seminars and mastermind groups.

Nutritional Guidance

What stood out to me is that the center also offers nutrition and wellness services. These services are provided by their registered dietician who is able to treat a variety of clinical conditions and health concerns.

The dietician will provide personalized guidance, nutritional recommendations and tools to help your wellness and health journey. Your therapist will be able to work alongside the dietician as they recognize the strong relationship between mental health and nutrition.

Supportive Faith Driven Care

Their recovery support features aftercare planning and provides connections to 12 Step programs like alcoholics anonymous. Clients mention some inconsistencies with scheduling but they did praise the skilled and empathetic therapists.

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

Treatments

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Clinical Services

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

I went to new life for a about a month but after 4 appointments my counselor did not get more sessions scheduled for the same time and day as was promised upon leaving my final session so trust was definitely lost. When I called and asked for 1 appointment I was scheduled multiple and then charged $75 for a one "No call no show" when I did not make the appointment in the first place.

Emilie is extremely unprofessional and uneducated when it comes to complex parenting situations. She made a tough situation far worse than it already was. It was so bad that we contacted the licensing board. She has no business being in this profession. She does not practice the Christian values that this agency uses as their platform. It's disappointing that a therapist would do so much damage to a child's mental health.

Very disorganized office. Scheduled two separate appointments and both times they did not have record of the appointment. A complete waste of time! When someone is struggling with mental health, seeing a counselor should be so hard to connect. They made us feel insignificant and unimportant NO I would not recommend this place.
