Nugen’s Ranch is located on 116 acres of land that is owned by Alaska Addiction Rehabilitation Services. They offer work therapy, life skills training and drug rehab services through their residential and outpatient programming.

The residential program at Nugen Ranch offers treatment for addiction on 116 acres of land. This program provides a combination of 12 Step philosophy and treatment, group and individual counseling, life skills training, and work therapy. The structured schedule helps create a new routine based in accountability and increasing levels of responsibility. Medication, study, reflection, writing, recreational therapy, spiritual health, and mental health are additional areas of focus that promote inner exploration and the opportunity to create meaningful healing.

The outpatient programming at Nugen’s ranch is for individuals who stay on the property to live in transitional housing. During this time, continued participation in 12 Steps, groups, and the work therapy program is required. The homes are gender specific to create a safe atmosphere without distractions.

The 12 Step program is a common recovery model based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a plan for recovery based in a Higher Power. Middle steps include self examination and making amends to those who’ve been hurt by the addiction. The later steps include continuing to take personal inventory while living a life of recovery and supporting others in doing the same.
Additional 12 Step groups include Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) Gamblers Anonymous (GA), to name a few.

Group therapy involves treatment through the process of connecting in a group setting to discuss and work through mental, emotional, and physical issues. There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psychoeducation, and more.

Levels of Care

Inpatient

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Life Skills

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

Trauma Therapy

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.
