My 18 year old son was a patient at Sante from July to September 2024. The nurses - they were helpful, courteous, and compassionate. Billing - they were forthright and made sure we were kept apprised of the financial situation and any obligations or changes in coverage regarding our insurance. Reception - I was always treated with kindness and respect. Now for the rest...My son's therapist was new to the facility and started off communicating regularly with us and being supportive. As time progressed, her responsiveness deteriorated to the point that we did not hear from her for the last several weeks of our son's treatment. I left voicemails and sent emails, but never heard back. The director of the facility, Adam Karazuba, was completely unprofessional. He emailed me to let me know that my son would be released from the program in 2 days and wanted to know what my discharge plans for him were - my son had no car and we live 15 hours away and cannot afford to buy an airplane ticket at the last minute. I had been emailing for weeks about a care plan for when he arrived home, but never heard back until this email. I asked the director if he would please call me so we could make arrangements - he refused! He would ONLY communicate through email - it was insane. We picked up my son and there was no therapist or anyone to talk to us about after care. My son was basically dumped like a stray pet. There was no care plan, no therapeutic summary of his treatment, no indication as to why treatment was incomplete, no help to find a provider or where to continue treatment - they robbed my son of information that would help him and us navigate the next part of his journey. You DON'T treat patients/clients/residents in treatment that way; you DON'T treat people that way! Guiding Principles from the The Sante Patient Handbook: "we will accept the toughest cases, not turning them away because they might cause us difficulty" "we will not give up on patients" "we will hold ourselves to a higher standard" SMH Just an update in response to the owner: My son did not sign an NDA nor leave AMA.

Due to concerns of confidentiality and privacy, we can neither confirm nor deny anyone is/was a client or family member at Santé. We can address our approach to communication and discharge planning.

Communication:
Our primary therapists, referral communication coordinator, aftercare coordinator and business office specialists all make and keep regular communication with external professionals and family members involved in each clients’ care, but only when client consent is given and active. As a mental and behavioral health company committed to integrity and privacy, if a client does not grant us consent or they change consents, we cannot speak to anyone going forward regarding their treatment or even confirm if they are a client at Santé. The clients are able to change (including limiting) their consents at any time so even if we were able to speak to a family member or external professionals at one time, that may not be the case throughout a client’s treatment.

Discharge Planning:
We work with clients to prepare them for discharge from the time they enter treatment until they leave Santé. Clients meet with our aftercare coordinator to make plans for what they will do towards recovery after leaving Santé. All clients are encouraged to attend a 12 Step or some type of mutual support meetings and to continue seeing a medical professional if they are taking medications. We recommend clients continue the therapeutic process on some level, whether an Intensive Outpatient Program, Sober Living, therapist, and Santé’s Alumni Program. The aftercare coordinator can assist with establishing appointments. These additional commitments to recovery are important “next steps” for those early in early recovery. The ideal situation is discharging with the aftercare coordinator, but unplanned discharges through the nurses station, for instance, would still receive discharge paperwork including referrals for ongoing recovery support.

We encourage any who are disappointed or upset to contact us directly at 940.464.7222.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

inpatient iconInpatient

Inpatient rehab programs are geared toward clients in early recovery. They also provide intensive support for clients in crisis and those at an increased relapse risk. Clients receive housing and meals while in inpatient care, allowing them to focus solely on their recovery. Most programs prioritize addiction counseling but may draw on various psychotherapeutic modalities, including CBT, DBT, RBT, trauma therapy, and motivational interviewing. Life skills training and holistic therapies are also common in inpatient care.

intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient

Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.

sober-living iconSober Living Homes

Sober Living Houses (SLHs), aka sober homes or halfway houses, are safe, substance-free, supportive living facilities for those recovering from substance abuse. Ideal for those who've just been through inpatient or outpatient treatment, SLHs are supervised environments with rules that support sobriety, such as curfews, shared chores, and therapeutic meetings. Residents are also often trained on life skills and coping skills to make it easier to transition into society. SLHs also provide a strong sense of community that can lead to the kind of deep and lasting connections with other sober individuals that supports a new, healthy lifestyle.

medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox

Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

During rehab in Texas, you'll deal with underlying issues that contribute to addiction. By addressing these challenges and learning healthy ways to cope with them, you'll develop strategies that help you live a drug-free lifestyle.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image

Adult Program

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
lgbtq-program thumbnail image

LGBTQ Program

Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.
military-program thumbnail image

Military Program

Serving in the military is both mentally and physically challenging, and can result in trauma that persists even after combat ends. Military programs are tailored to the specific and often complex needs of active duty personnel, veterans, and military families. Clients often access these programs through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).
young-adult-program thumbnail image

Young Adult Program

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

The goal of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) in Texas is to change thought patterns, which leads to changes in behavior. Specific techniques during CBT can include self talk, SMART goals, journaling, and positive activities.

Treatment that takes a dialectical behavior therapy approach focuses on four strategies. Distress tolerance will help you accept and tolerate intense emotions. Emotional regulation will teach you to manage those emotions. Mindfulness will keep you in the present moment instead of regret or worry. Interpersonal effectiveness will teach you to manage your relationships.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

So many people write reviews quickly and never really wait to share the outcome years later. My son was a patient at Sante 3 years ago. I am so grateful to everyone that had a hand in helping my son through his addiction and assisting with his mental diagnosis. He now has a great career with a medication plan that allows him to live a successful life. ❤️🫶 If you have a family member or loved one that needs help, I would highly recommend Sante.

Response from the owner

Beware of Unprofessional and Manipulative Financial Staff My experience with Santé Residential and its Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) was severely impacted by the unprofessional behavior of one particular financial staff member. Upon transferring to the IOP, I encountered nothing but issues when dealing with this employee, who consistently lied and manipulated the situation to cover up her own mistakes. Not only was she rude, but her conduct was far below what one would expect from someone working in a facility that handles individuals in fragile, vulnerable states. Throughout my interactions, this staff member made false claims and tried to shift the blame onto me for her errors. In particular, she repeatedly insisted that she had informed me about needing approval for a payment, which was never communicated to me. Her lack of professionalism and work ethic made the entire process incredibly difficult and stressful. After multiple frustrating meetings, I was forced to seek out someone else to work with. Had I not stood my ground and called her out on her lies, I would have been scammed out of a significant amount of money. To make matters worse, after receiving an initial bill of $120, I was told I owed nothing, only to be told a week later that I did owe the $120. The inconsistency and lack of transparency were alarming. In my opinion, someone in charge of managing finances for clients in recovery should be detail-oriented, supportive, and honest. Unfortunately, this individual failed on all fronts and took advantage of my situation. It’s deeply concerning to think that other clients, especially those who might have been too intimidated to speak up, could have been victimized in the same way. The level of dishonesty, manipulation, and negligence I experienced is unacceptable, and I believe that someone like her should not be working at a facility that serves individuals in such vulnerable positions. I hope the organization takes this feedback seriously and reevaluates her role for the sake of others. I will continue to advocate for myself and encourage others to do the same, as I don’t want anyone else to be taken advantage of in the same manner. If I could give it 0 stars I would. Giving 1 start is being generous…

Response from the owner
Due to concerns with confidentiality and privacy, we can neither confirm or deny that anyone is/was a client. However, we can address the fact that we work hard to prevent anything from disrupting a client's clinical care and journey to long-term recovery. When an error happens, Santé reviews the situation and does what is needed to correct it. That can include adjusting charges or accommodating a request to work with different staff. Anyone disappointed or upset with their experience is encouraged to contact us directly to discuss remedies with integrity and fairness. This can be done via reviews@santecenter.com or simply call the main line 940-464-7222.
