About The American Institute for Cognitive Therapy NYC

The American Institute for Cognitive Therapy NYC started in 1990. They’re located on East 58th Street in New York City, New York. The center provides behavioral health services to address and treat co-occurring mental health issues and substance use disorders.

It’s located in the urban Manhattan neighborhood, close to several restaurants, luxury clothing and beauty stores, hotels and nearby cultural landmarks. Cultural landmarks include Carnegie Hall, The Museum of Modern Art and Rockefeller Center.

Co-Occurring Disorder Treatment

The Institute’s services address and treat substance use disorders and mental health issues are offered through telehealth services or in-person. They provide traditional levels of therapy and one-on-one counseling with medication assistance to treat your conditions.

It’s neat that they address opioids, drugs, and other addictions like caffeine and inhalants. That way, if there are any co-occurring behavioral habits that are fueling your substance misuse, they can address those.

Unique Therapy Programs for LGBTQ+ Communities

Their sessions are offered through flexible outpatient appointments which may include group therapy and one-on-one counseling sessions. In addition, they offer you unique treatment programs including mindfulness and acceptance, nutritional counseling, couples counseling, and LGBTQ+ services.

Their LGBTQ+ services provide support to address mental health issues, which studies have shown are more prevalent in the LGBTQ+ community. I think it’s encouraging to know that the center addresses the unique challenges that they face including issues with gender identity, transitioning, relationship issues, social connections and managing anxiety and stress. They also provide services to help with developing coping skills, handling stigmas and family relationships.

SPACE Program for Adolescents with OCD and Anxiety Disorders

I love that they offer a new program for adolescents called SPACE which addresses youth dealing with OCD and anxiety disorders. They offer support and guidance to the parents and family members of anxious children. Your team can also offer therapy to support parents and family members through 12 sessions to teach them better methods for addressing behavioral issues, as opposed to making accommodations to avoid them.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

Outpatient rehabs offer an intermediate level of care for clients who do not require the kind of intensive supervision and support an inpatient program typically provides. Many clients transition into outpatient care immediately after exiting inpatient treatment. Others enter outpatient programs upon completing detox. Some facilities offer ambulatory medical detox for clients who do not require hospitalization. Most outpatient rehabs offer a combination of services, including addiction counseling, life skills training, and medication assisted treatment (MAT).

Treatments

In New York you'll find substance abuse treatment programs that can help you address your addiction, and any co-occurring mental health disorders. These programs utilize evidence-based therapies such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and psychodynamic approaches to help you achieve recovery and new tools to sustain it. With various treatment options available, including outpatient, inpatient, and residential programs, you'll be able to find the resources and right level of care you need to effectively treat your addiction.

Clinical Services

Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) in New York is a short term therapeutic method used to treat substance use and mental health disorders. CBT typically lasts from five to 20 sessions, based on the individual's needs.

During dialectical behavior therapy in New York, you and your therapist will look for triggers and patterns that are guiding your emotions. This involves keeping a diary of your emotions and situations and sharing this each week with the therapist. This information will determine what you work on in each session.
