Saint Jude Retreat is a non-treatment aspect in battling substance use located in Amsterdam, New York. It’s a holistic program that’s based on healing your mind, body, and soul. With these retreats, you’re exploring your addictions, but you also get the opportunity to engage in outdoors activities such as biking, walking, fishing, and much mo
I love St Jude I attended the Mountain location that was in Wells, NY- wouldn’t trade what I was taught for anything. Their program uses science and a genuine look at life regarding both what worked and what didn’t about all of the choices I made. I don’t believe daily declarations that we are “powerless” offer much growth like other modalities. I’m in long term recovery for 8+ yrs and I’m not anonymous, nor ashamed or regretful bc I can own every choice. It was a combo of St Jude’s and Landmark courses combined. I highly recommend if you or someone you know, has frequent relapses and 12 step places haven’t made a lasting impact, or if you’re someone who appreciates the rational and science behind our behaviors. I will say, I did my assignments , procrastinated at some, but I did them. I didn’t have anything to lose and I went in there disbelieving anything could have me believe that I could live happy without CM. I didn’t want to go at all lol! Back then it took hell and high water to get me on a plane, (I missed flight on more than 1 occasion) but Im so grateful I did eventually get on the flight and make it there. Best advice from Rit Santelli… “Don’t give up what you want most, for what you want in the moment”- I had triggers when I got home to Tx back then, but I knew what was happening and what I wanted most mattered more.

After years of bouncing around the recovery world, I realized that I had nothing from which to recover! My problems were with my erroneous thinking and the behavior that resulted from the thinking. I am free now and always have been to make the decisions that shape my life. My experience at St Jude was transformative.

If you are looking for a place to change the way you think, the actions you take and your relationship with drugs or alcohol than this is the place for you. The opposite of a traditional rehab experience, St Jude’s and it’s Freedom Model start with a simple premise- there is nothing inherently wrong with you. No illness or disease, no life long problem that will hang over you till the day you die, but rather a simple misunderstanding- that all the benefits you have perceived from drinking or drugging are illusionary. They are in your mind and they proceed to unpack all the myths associated with drinking or drugging and boil it do to some simple facts- one, you have free will and are actively choosing to drink. Two you have an autonomous mind that only you control and can be taught that these perceived benefits you have associated with drinking are simply not true. And third, that you drink or drug because you BELIEVE it is making you happy and in reality it does not, at least not in the way you are drinking or drugging now- or else why are you reading this? Once they teach you this and unshackle you from all the recovery BS you will have a revelation- that this is all in your control and that if you want to change you always can. It’s that simple. The combination of one on one instruction and fact and science based statistics will time and time again reinforce this critical concept. I can honestly say this changed my life. Not just my unhealthy relationship with drinking- but all aspects of my life. It left me a better educated person and as a result a better husband, father, worker and person. In short it left me a better global citizen with an awareness of why I do what I do and the ability to modify my behaviors if I honestly want to. The staff is nothing short of awesome. From the meals (thanks Dave, who by the way is a trained gourmet chef) to the accommodations, to the instructors, you immediately feel like you are part of the family, living in a home with great people in a warm and supportive environment that allows you to comfortably sort yourself out. They are right to call it a retreat, not a rehab, because it is more about teaching you how to live and be a better human than about convincing you you are weak and powerless. I have been home for a month now and have been in numerous social settings with people drinking and have not once felt compelled to drink. I simply choose not to at this point. And that’s the best part- there is no illusion that you can never drink again (but studies show about 50% of the people choose not to) but once they teach you the facts about drinking you are empowered to intelligently choose what you want to do. I want to thank everyone there from Mark, Michelle, Steve (the authors and instructors) to everyone else who helped me during my stay. I can’t say enough great things about this experience. It was nothing short of life changing! You can do this if you want to change and the Freedom Model is the key to a healthier, happier, and more balanced life- I promise you that.

Healing Springs is a welcoming recovery community resource center serving those in recovery, substance users seeking recovery, and family dealing with loved ones with substance-use problems and issues. The center offers a plethora of programs for those in recovery including 12-steps (AA, NA, MA, OA, CODA), All Recovery, and Refuge Recovery. It also offers different guided activities including Recovery Writing, painting, and jewelry making. Community activities include gardening, Saturday coffee and chat, fishing, and bowling. The center is staffed by both volunteers (many of whom are in recovery) and professional Certified Recovery Peer Advocates (CRPAs). Some of the Center's CRPAs specialize in areas of family, veterans, incarceration, and hospitalization. Positive energy flows throughout the center and all of the programs which are offered. The Center is NOT a rehab, however it does provide information to those seeking rehab facilities. Come in. Sit down. Enjoy a cup of fresh-brewed coffee. Chat with someone. Feel the good vibes.

*Important* u have to bring ur own 30 day supply of your medications. I'll start with one of the most important things for me: I'm a transgender man who was treated with dignity and respect by the staff and clients alike. Rehab reviews never talk about what places are safe for us so just wanted to say that. Most of the staff rly cares. Place is clean. Food is mid. Beds are mid. But u know what? I knew where I was going to sleep that night, I knew I was safe. I knew I had 3 hot meals a day that I didn't have to search, beg for, or steal. I knew I could take a shower every day, even twice if I wanted. Laundry. Etc. The point of this center is to get u away from your life for 30 days to let ur brain and body recover from the hell you've been living in due to addiction. This is a hospital setting so there's tons of weird and frankly ridiculous rules like "no exercising" (u can power walk around the court yard but thats it) bc it's some kind of liability to the hospital?? Idk just do push ups in ur room w the door closed. Most addicts know how to work around rules and manipulate a system so just make the best of it. But fr it's insane to see and hear ppl complain about this place as if it's not a respite from being sick tired miserable. The ppl who complained the most I chalked it up to their life hasn't gotten bad enough yet to be truly ready for recovery. They don't seem to understand that the opportunity to be here is a blessing that ppl in many states will never have the chance to get. The NY healthcare system is better than any other state I've lived in. There are many ppl in other places who will never have the opportunity to go to rehab. I had a one day relapse a month after I left and now have 1 year and 11 months sober. Beginning my recovery journey here was exactly what I needed to separate my mind and body from the hell I was in. Thank u to the staff from Nov 2023. Nicole is the reason I decided to stay sober when I left. I had given up hope of staying sober during my stay but she had a long talk with me the night before I left that really changed my life.

I just yesterday left conifer. Despite leaving AMA the staff was more than willing to be helpful and respect my decision. They expressed their concerns respectfully and genuinely cared, but also respected my choice and made it more than clear it was mine to make. The staff are honestly the best part of the place. And more than make up for the complaints I have about the food, the inability to be able to have options for each meal. It’s what it is and you eat it or you don’t. And I think everyday there should be at least 3 options. Not as some luxury amenities but simply because people don’t like certain things point blank. Especially when you have people detoxing from drugs and withdrawing. I know when I was peak withdrawal rice covered in a brown sauce with peppers and chicken was not what I would consider easy to get down. Or the meat loaf I guess you would call it from I think 2 days prior. Ultimately the point is please conifer for the sake of the patients fix the food situation. I heard people complain about it more than any other things all combined. But again the staff make up for it. Everyone from the “bad with names sorry so” pretty girl at the front who helps you get signed in and all that good stuff, to the awesome security guard who does the search, every TA and nurse up in detox, just all amazing caring good genuine people!

Eh..on one hand I owe them for helping me when I was in a very bad situation so I have to say that much. On the other I have never had an organization refuse to listen to my feedback like Mohawk Opportunities. The staff at lower levels are grouchy and talk down to you, it's very demoralizing and triggers the very issues they claim to be helping me with. I guess what I'm saying is the staff needs sensitivity training, particularly for someone claiming to work in the mental health field. I'm high functioning so if I'm getting treated like this I fear for the other clients. So sometimes I feel patronized, I get the feeling they aren't familiar with clients with cptsd. However, I am eternally grateful to these folks for aiding me & giving me a beautiful 1st apartment. Thank you everyone at Mohawk & because of that you get 4 stars despite my concerns. Edit: adding a star as they've grown on me & I do appreciate their help.

I have benefited from the great care at the Clifton Park VA clinic and from the Stratton VA and choose it over the private healthcare system time and time again. I am grateful to have served my country and for the healthcare that I now receive. I am treated like a person at the VA rather than a number.

Despite the hospital’s low ratings, my experience was generally positive. There was a wait, which is expected, especially when many patients need attention. However, once I was seen, the staff was attentive. They listened to my symptoms, ordered the necessary exams, and were able to identify the issue. Overall, the care I received was thorough and appreciated.

I had to bring my husband into emergency on Thanksgiving day. I was expecting only minimal staff, however he was immediately taken in & received excellent care from the nurses and the doctor . He has been admitted to the fifth floor & his stellar care has continued. He also says that it’s the most delicious hospital food ever . I would recommend this hospital . Thank you to Ellis Hospital & staff during a difficult time .

Once my Mom was admitted, she received excellent care from the RNs, techs, and Drs. She was treated with patience, kindness, and dignity from the time she entered until we brought her home for hospice care. They even set up so we could have one of us stay over night and were checking on her constantly.

Been going here since 2016 my mom went there too. Never have I had a disrespectful worker there, they treat you with kindness with in reason. My therapists are always and still go out of their way to help me in most facets of my life, their jobs is to help you with your mental illness not to find jobs or to do the work for you. And in that respect sometimes they go above and beyond. I had one bad experience with a newer therapist but they asked me if I wanted a new one and they gave them to me I’ve had two others and they are the best. Even my doctor from there is awesome. They even let me change my psychiatrist. So in my experience this place with all its programs is one of the best. And I still go there and will continue. If there are any problems you caused them yourself….

I’ve been going here since my suicide attempt in May of 2017 and I honestly couldn’t be happier with the doctors I have. I’d never been able to find a therapist I clicked with until I got here (Miklos). I will admit that I endured a couple years of suffering under the spacey and aggressive rule of Dr Mittol, who used the threat of withholding refills to force me into bending to his arbitrary rules, but I was able to switch to a better psychiatrist, and once that one retired I was sent to an even better one (Dr Mantas) who I am so pleased with. I’ve even started seeing the primary care here (Dr Ferro) so I have all my needs available in one building, and I have to say he too is probably the most personable and attentive PCP I’ve ever had. It’s always clean and everyone has always been pleasant. Very little funding and care is allocated to health care in this awful country, in general, so this is of course going to be especially true for mental health services, which aren’t taken as seriously by really anyone. It is because of this national systemic problem that I think someone may have struggles getting an appointment or finding the doctor who is right for them. The benefits of this field aren’t grand, so I do truly believe the people working here are doing so because they are passionate about what they do. Some doctors are jerks (like my old psychiatrist), but please try to remember that the people here are also constantly being obstructed from providing full care by our privatized, for-profit health care system.
