About Verdugo Hills Hospital – Outpatient Services

Verdugo Hills Hospital outpatient services offers private mental health treatment to adults ages 50 and up in Glendale, California. They are a part of Keck Medicine of the USC hospital network and focus on helping seniors with behavioral health problems and addictions to alcohol and drugs. They accept Medicare and Medicaid.

A great thing about this clinic is that it offers a broad continuum of care to seniors. They treat the patient as a whole person when giving care to geriatric people in their outpatient behavioral program. They can utilize the full spectrum of care to treat addiction with medication. They also provide group therapy and individual psychotherapy.

Their facility includes a community center for aging where seniors can gain access to a wide network of broader senior services specifically designed for the elderly. They understand the aging process and how maintaining valuable life skills helps patients learn and maintain their independence. They offer patients assistance with overcoming trauma, as well as diet planning and exercise strategies.

Patients have mixed opinions about the facility, but they do praise the kindness of the staff.

Accepted Insurance

Verdugo Hills Hospital – Outpatient Services works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

Treatments

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Terrible experience waiting for service. At least a dozen people who arrived after me were seen ahead of me. None with visibly more serious conditions. 4+ hour wait completely unacceptable. “We don’t give estimated wait times “

I just received a new bill from your hospital, and I am extremely confused and frustrated. I visited your facility over a year ago, and after that visit, I contacted your billing department to dispute the charges. The representative I spoke with was understanding and helpful. She told me that the bill would be removed from my account and that I would no longer receive any further billing related to that visit. During my time at your hospital, I was mistreated. I even took a photo and left a review describing the experience. Blood was leaking from my IV, and no nurses came to check on me. I pressed the call button several times just to get help removing the sticky monitors from my body so I could go to the restroom. No one came. I had to disconnect everything myself and walk to the restroom while dragging the IV pole with me. No one gave me a real diagnosis, and I ended up having to go to another emergency room because your hospital failed to take proper action or provide basic care. After all that, I was told the issue with the bill was handled. And now, more than a year later, I suddenly receive a new bill? And to make matters worse, your administrative assistant took the entire day to finally come speak to me while I was just lying there, not being properly treated. When she finally showed up, she had an attitude and told me something about not accepting my insurance or that I did not have insurance at all. If that was the case, why was this not checked at the beginning when I first arrived? I could have gone to another hospital. I mentioned several times that I wanted to leave and go somewhere else, but I was told not to because I would have to start the entire process again. Why is your hospital digging through old patient records from over a year ago to send out surprise bills? I want your billing department to look into this immediately, remove my information from your system, and stop sending me anything related to that visit. I was not properly treated, didn’t get the correct diagnoses and care. Thank you.

This review is solely for the front office of OB-GYN Kimeshia C. Thomas, MD—not the doctor herself. I was really looking forward to being seen by Dr. Thomas after hearing so many positive reviews from other women about their pregnancy experiences with her, and she accepts my insurance. Unfortunately, I waited over a month just to be seen. Gisele repeatedly forgot about my referrals and delayed confirming with the doctor whether she could take me on as a patient. When I was finally scheduled, I showed up for my appointment only to be met with a rude and unhelpful receptionist who refused to accommodate a reschedule. She claimed she never scheduled me. To make matters worse, their office shut their phones off for an entire week with no explanation. Even the hospital couldn’t tell me why or how to reach them. They also have no email or alternative method of communication, making it incredibly frustrating to get any help or updates. I’m sure Dr. Thomas is a great provider, but her front office staff and lack of communication make it nearly impossible to get proper care.

This is not an emergency service, there is no emergency department in this hospital They don’t care if you can’t walk, they don’t care if you are in severe pain, they don’t care if you are begging for help. The doctors are busy until you yell and scream to complain… This is not a first time That’s it, no more Verdugo Hills emergency room

I drove all the way from LA city because our hospital are a nightmare. Super cute campus, very quick service, and since I showed up at like 2 am they let me sleep for a few hours before driving home because I told them I was tired. Very sweet overall. Will continue to go there for non life threatening things. Also there was only one lady there when I got there waiting and she was sweet. The waiting room was empty just the two of us.

I passed a few hospitals on my way to get to USC Vedugo Hills bc the one near me has no ER. I have always received good care at USC and again was not disappointed. The staff were amazing. Care was spot on and attention to detail was amazing. RN Jessyn provided the best care. Juana took care with a smile and million dollar smile. Kemilla was great. Overall, small ER tucked away in the hills with the best care is a blessing when you are sick and need attention. Thank you everyone there who took care of me.
