About Beacon Health
Tucked away on Woodland Park Drive in Houston, Texas, what was once known as Beacon Health is now part of Nexus Children’s Hospital. And it’s doing far more than you might expect from a traditional children’s hospital. This isn’t just a place for short-term care. It’s a space for long-term healing especially for children and teens struggling with complex mental, behavioral, and developmental challenges. The hospital provides individual therapy, trauma-informed care and behavioral counseling with around the clock medical support. This way, they can give young people a safe place to stabilize and start rebuilding.
Whole Person Care for Medically Complex Youth
The Houston location focuses on bridging the gap between mental and physical health. They really focus on adolescents trying to navigate things like mood disorders, PTSD, schizophrenia or behavior dysregulation alongside other chronic health conditions. What I love about their approach is that it’s not just about managing symptoms either. They have everything tucked all under one roof here, which is super rare. You can find school, family engagement opportunities, therapy, and full medical oversight here.
Teen Program for Addiction and Behavioral Health Support
Nexus also offers the True North Program, which is housed at a different location. This program is for young women ages 13 to 17 who need intensive support for substance use and behavioral health. It’s a medical-model residential program where teens can receive a whole list of therapies. They’ll have access to 24/7 care, medication management, trauma-focused therapy and access to EMDR. These teens often come from tough situations, like past abuse or repeated self-harm, but this program gives them structure and a real shot at healing.

Addiction Treatments
Treatments
The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.
During rehab in Texas, you'll deal with underlying issues that contribute to addiction. By addressing these challenges and learning healthy ways to cope with them, you'll develop strategies that help you live a drug-free lifestyle.
Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.
Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.
