About BRC

BRC stands for The Bowery Residents’ Committee. They started in 1971 as an outreach and substance abuse treatment center that offers a variety of services to men and women in the Bowery, a local area in New York City, New York. They offer a wide range of services, including two addiction treatment programs that help meet the needs of over 500 men and women each year. They also provide mental health services, with a focus on men and women who are persistently mentally ill and who have co-occurring substance abuse problems.

Outreach teams work 24/7 in the subways and streets to help the homeless. They have 19 transitional housing programs and permanent housing for New Yorkers with a history of homelessness.

When you’re part of the substance abuse treatment services, you also have access to a workforce development program to overcome obstacles to employment and help you effectively find a job. This also includes mental health initiatives for folks with co-occurring conditions.

Special services are available for older adults and some services are being adapted to provide help for children and families. They offer care using a holistic, client-centered, comprehensive approach using evidence and need space programs. As a non-profit organization, they accept donations to help pay for these services, and they don’t turn away people who cannot pay.

They want to help who they want to help. Pressure homeless to lie on employees that try to help them out of retaliation. Lose clients paperwork. The office is totally not run correctly and HR does not investigate but investigate employees who complain

Due to an illegal lockout by developer, I landed in the shelter. I posted the horrific hygiene of the Greenpoint Accessment Shelter. It is surely liable for causes of COVID Spread, tuberculosis transfer and more. Pics are worth a thousand words

Used to be an employee here. The clients are not properly looked after. Several have passed away in their rooms and was not discovered until days later because staff and management does not check on them. The management team Alaa, Andre, and Ritana often spend their shifts at the bar using donation money for clients to buy their drinks. I witnessed supervisor Ritana sitting on Supervisor Andres lap. When reported Ritana and Andre tried to intimidate me and fire me. This was brought to HR attention and they did nothing but write me up. They do not care for the safety of the staff or clients. Clients become violent with staff and they aren t discharged or transferred out. Horrible shelter and leaves the clients worse than how they started.

Other Forms of Payment

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Addiction Treatments

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

When you choose drug rehab in New York, you'll participate in a variety of treatments that are designed to help you live a drug-free lifestyle. Common methods of treatment include group, individual, and family counseling, medication management, nutrition, exercise, and management of co-occurring mental health disorders.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Place isn't safe and don't enforce any of the rules. They love to retaliate if you speak up or complain to a higher up. Infested with bed bugs and only help those they want to help out. I don't recommend this place at all for anyone struggling with homelessness. This building should be ashamed of how they treat their clients especially the elderly. They should concentrate on helping those who want help instead of a paycheck. The staff here can really learn to be more patient and help keep individuals safe and provide proper help.

The services here are terrible and building is unsanitary. The conditions are poor and they services lack staff availability for case managers to assist them. Clients at the facility do not obey rules and regulations that clients sneak and smoke in the facility, bathrooms not fully cleaned and sanitized. Staff and custodian people drag their feet and sweep clients issues under the rug. They are making the homeless system in new York fail and case clients to run in circles but them in a system that designed to fail them.

This place does not care for anyone. Staff is always sleeping while on duty. They have women on the floor with men because she stated she is transitioning (nothing against that) . Management does not do there job let alone the staff. If these people are looking for help, DO your Job!!!! i was informed by someone that is at this facility. You should be ashamed. How do you expect for people to be able to get there life together, when BRC is doing nothing but treating them like garbage. and Don't let me send you pictures. Yes, they also send out pictures
