As a parent, you always want to believe you can help your child through anything. But when my teenage son started struggling with anxiety, mood swings, and serious school avoidance, I knew we needed professional help. After trying two therapists that didn’t work out, a friend recommended Mount Behavioral Health in Brooklyn, and I can honestly say it was the best decision we ever made. From the very first phone call, the team at Mount BH was warm, responsive, and professional. My son started weekly sessions with one of their therapists, and within just a few weeks, we saw real changes. His anxiety became more manageable, he was talking to us more openly, and he even started re-engaging at school. What I appreciated most is how involved they keep the parents. We had regular check-ins, goal updates, and we were never left guessing if therapy was working. It was clear, consistent, and measurable which honestly gave me peace of mind. They also offer in-person therapy at their Brooklyn clinic (which is clean, welcoming, and not at all clinical-feeling) and telehealth services across New York State. Since we live in Brooklyn, we went in person at first, but my son actually prefers doing some sessions via Zoom now and it is super convenient. And a special shoutout to Dr. Mark Benisz, His compassion to every client is unbelievable!

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

Outpatient rehabs offer an intermediate level of care for clients who do not require the kind of intensive supervision and support an inpatient program typically provides. Many clients transition into outpatient care immediately after exiting inpatient treatment. Others enter outpatient programs upon completing detox. Some facilities offer ambulatory medical detox for clients who do not require hospitalization. Most outpatient rehabs offer a combination of services, including addiction counseling, life skills training, and medication assisted treatment (MAT).

Treatments

Mental health and addiction rehab programs, known as dual diagnosis centers, offer specialized treatment plans that are tailored to meet the individual needs of every client. These treatment programs are designed to simultaneously address the unique challenges of co-occurring mental health disorders and addiction. The customized treatment plans in a dual diagnosis center are based on your medical history, substance use disorder, mental health condition, and personal recovery goals.

Programs

Teen programs are designed to address the unique pressures teens face, pressures that can drive them to experiment with dangerous, addictive substances. They need programs that meet them exactly where they are and give them tools for long-term recovery. Therapy can help teenagers understand and work through underlying issues so they can reclaim the life ahead of them.

The providers who specialize in the children's rehab space understand the specialized needs that this population faces. School-based and social services such as tutoring and family counseling are often central to treatment. Child programs may also address the needs of youth experiencing substance abuse in the home, including a parent's or sibling's addiction.

Clinical Services

Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) in New York is a short term therapeutic method used to treat substance use and mental health disorders. CBT typically lasts from five to 20 sessions, based on the individual's needs.

During dialectical behavior therapy in New York, you and your therapist will look for triggers and patterns that are guiding your emotions. This involves keeping a diary of your emotions and situations and sharing this each week with the therapist. This information will determine what you work on in each session.

Men and women receive emotional support from their peers during group therapy sessions. These are typically people who face the same struggles that you do. This exposure fosters a sense of camaraderie and community while reducing feelings of isolation and loneliness that often accompany addiction.

Men and women in New York undergoing one on one individual therapy for drug and alcohol addiction treatment will address the unique psychological and emotional aspects that are often associated with addiction triggers. Your therapist helps you build a relapse prevention plan and set achievable goals to improve your mental health and achieve long term sobriety.
