It's a good hospital. But they lack communication. Especially for your loved ones in surgery they are supposed to keep you informed every 2 hours don't count on it unless you track someone down.. also if they are being admitted which they know which surgeries get admitted they should already have a impatient room scheduled.. you can't see them because they are in general population when in PACU 1.. because it's a HIPPA violation well cool so is putting all the patients in that room with or without their family.. better yet for the amount of funding hospitals get you should have a holding unit like you do with outpatient surgeries where family or support person is able to see a patient when your waiting for a damn room to be discharged, and cleaned. Cause you know visiting hours end at a certain time so people like myself who has been here all day and not updated in a timely manner without having to track someone down to find out what is going on. It's a shame that you know which surgeries are same day and which are being admitted so do better and have rooms for the patients that are being admitted or have a holding unit so families can see their loved ones while they are awaiting for their roomSuch a disappointment with how I was treated

At first I was skeptical because of what my wife told me from prior experiences. But that was 12 years ago. They have come an extremely long way. I will never take a pregnant woman to another hospital I don't care if I'm in Egypt, magee hospital is the place to have a baby. My wife's pregnancy was extremely high risk and I was terrified, however, they had all the implementations in place to make sure everything went exactly as it should. Highly recommend McGee women's hospital. Trust me you won't be disappointed.

What is going on at Magee? The turnover is unbelievable. I specifically chose Magee for its expertise after a terrible local experience, but now, after losing two incredible providers Dr. Scruggs and Stacy Shankle in such a short time, I m left questioning my decision. After today s visit with the newest CRNP, I have never felt more like just a dollar sign. I m sure she s just trying to keep her job, but this is not the standard of care I expected. Magee used to be a leader women sought out your care knowing we were in the best hands. What happened? I will be seeking other options. And you should too.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

Treatments

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

UPMC advertised “ Free Mammograms. No insurance required” about a year and a half ago. They never mentioned “ Voucher required” but thank goodness the desk receptionist told me to call Adagio and she gave me the number and told me to mention I need a voucher for a free mammogram. It WASN’T FREE! They’ve been trying to get money from me a month after the mammogram. What a joke! The devil is a liar! 🤥

I have given birth here twice -once in the general hospital , the other time , at the midwives center . Both were terrible experiences . Everyone was very kind , yes , but competence and knowledge were lacking . With my daughter , they began a c section while I was crying I could feel the pain ! I could feel them cutting into me ! “ no,” the nurses reassured me , “ it’s just pressure.” When I started kicking , the doctor finally agreed I needed more . At that point , they gave me too much , I almost passed out , and by the time my daughter was born , I could barely hold her . Their solution was to try to send a hospital social worker or psychologist in to see me for their screw up ?! Really ? Nothing like gaslighting victims -a common occurrence in the medical industry . I also planned a home birth that did not work out , so they treated me like a drug addict off the streets and both tested me for drugs ( I was negative !) and my new born daughter they kept trying to cath ..when I kept hearing her cry , the nurse admitted to me what they were doing .. all unbeknownst to me ! No prior approval , nothing . I was given incorrect nursing advice post birth as well . The nurses told me to relax and take it easy .. after a c section w ivs? Not a good idea . My feet ended up swelling for weeks like I had chf. Another nurse told me to pump and breast feed ( terrible advice !!) so I had mastitis on and off for the 2 y I breast fed . When my son was born , I came into the center 5 cm . The nurses insisted on giving me staydol, which I expressed the concern it would lower his heart rate . Again , the nurse denied my concern , said it would only help me sleep . Not only did it not help me sleep , but it also lowered his heart rate ! A narcotic obviously would do that ! Thus they set off a cascade of unnecessary medical interventions . They told me if I was not induced w pitocin , my son was at risk of dying ! All while I was laboring , the nurses kept telling me his heart rate was dropping and they worried he would die !! What the heck ?! The epidural fell out so I felt everything , the cocky anesthesiologist never admitted what happened .. a nurse later told me .. again , they later gave me too much medication .. again , I felt I would pass out .. again , they tried to say “ what’s wrong with YOU “ that you don’t want to hold your baby ? Meanwhile , I was so woozy I could barely hold myself up !! The midwives also told me to hold my breath while giving birth . If I had my druthers instead of being both drugged and sleep deprived , I would have told them to bugger off with their terrible suggestions .. naturally , I tore my vagina and urethra, something that still aches at times many many years later ! Both births were traumatic, the advice was terrible , medical care manipulative , deceptive , and down right inaccurate . The one positive was the people were kind , and I’m grateful for that , but my gosh , I pray no one has crap shows like I did . 2 traumatic child births resulted in 2 terribly lonely post partum depression and anxiety. Don’t get me started on that one ! No trust for this medical system .I appreciate there are many hard working , kind people here that do care , but can we please advance knowledge , communication , and standardization of care ? Healthcare has a ways to go . The paradigm needs to change . Womens voices, needs , and preferences matter . The midwives should have known better ! Like doctors trying to give episiotomies ! My mom is 74 and has periodic incontinence likely bc of that ! Look it up . The curse cause less won’t come . You have been warned .

I've had two babies and one surgery here. Every single time I'm treated so kindly and thoughtfully. The doctors and midwives are top notch. I'm very nervous and have gone through some trauma so it's a bit hard for me to go to the hospital, but at Magee I'm always put at ease and made to feel safe.

Came in a few days ago for a possible bowel obstruction. Was sent to the 4th floor. Every person I dealt with on that floor was nicer than the next! Really enjoyed my visits with Meagan Mills, Susan and Jen! They were kind, patient and laughed at my horrible jokes! Bedside manner from this entire crew was impeccable! Now the people working in the cafeteria and coffee tree need to take a customer service class! Sheesh, most of them seem offended when you ask a question and are quick to walk away from you mid sentence.

My family and I were at the hospital for a family member who was scheduled to have surgery. Everyone was so nice starting with registration to the day of being discharged. The nurses on the floor Mona, Maddy and Fabian were extremely caring and very pleasant to have as nurses. Thank you all for making my loved ones stay a comfortable and pleasant stay!

Radiology department was phenomenal. Doctor Gordon Abrams did my biopsy. He was a very kind man with a gentle manner and easy to talk to. The techs and nurse were great too. Very friendly, professional staff. ER was also great both visits. All the staff I came in contact with were very pleasant and professional.

A couple months before I schedule for a mammogram. I get there they have me schedule for a paps mere. I wasn't happy with the situation. I let them know how I felt. They made it calming for me concern ing the situation. But it wasn't a doctor that did the exam it was a student an a head nurse. The nurse that was bring the people back in the waiting area she didn't have a uniform on. What is going on with this hospital.

Had to park 10 blocks away. Noisy. Waiting area for family of people with breast cancer was in a hallway. I would recommend the Cranberry location or Allegheny Health Network for a more patient and family-centered experience.

Do not give birth here! I gave birth here twenty years ago and still have trauma from it!! Nurses and Doctors were so unprofessional and rude.. treated me absolutely horrible, So judgmental! I could go on for days of how bad this hospital is.. it’s still really upsetting looking back and realizing what happened to me there.

The experience would have been much better had the security guard not attacked my purse for scissors. He didn’t just demand, he got violent. The other man did not interfere. He turned his head the other way, said nothing, and when I went back for my belongings at the end of my stay, the complacent man wouldn’t even look me in the eye nor did he speak when I said ‘thank you.’ Authority has its place, but in a hospital for women, all women, please remind security that we (women) have rights that we have fought and died for and are the very reason they are gainfully employed today. Otherwise excellent experience. The PA was one of the best I’ve ever seen.
