What the Winners Have in Common

The 10 best rehab facilities have several things in common. Let’s begin with payment options, because that’s often the first dealbreaker. Nine of the 10 centers list Medicaid, and nearly all list private insurance. Most list Medicare, and half list military insurance. Odds are good that at least a few of these take what you have.

Levels of care are another thing the facilities have in common. Most list outpatient care, a handful list residential care, and a few list medical detox. Six of the 10 facilities list Joint Commission or CARF accreditation, and half list dual diagnosis care. The winners are based in Albuquerque, Tijeras and Cuba. Most are close by, with a couple of options farther out. Where they differ is in setting and structure, from a state hospital to small outpatient clinics.

How These Rankings Work

Each ranking begins with the Rehab Score. This score is calculated for every treatment center listed on Rehab.com. Patient reviews are roughly 50% of the score. The rest includes accreditation and licensing, how complete and specific a center’s program information is, and reputation signals such as business history and staffing.

A center must list substance use treatment and at least one clinical level of care, have a physical address, and be open to the general public. Our editors screen every ranked center, and its parent company and affiliates, for license actions, patient-safety lawsuits and settlements, government fraud cases and credible investigations before publication.

We remove centers that no longer qualify or meet the criteria. Programs for young people are included only when they treat substance use. No center can pay for placement. We update these rankings every quarter, and our scoring methodology page explains each input in detail.

Albuquerque Rehab FAQs

How were these Albuquerque rehabs chosen?

The centers were ranked by Rehab Score among 60 eligible treatment centers in the Albuquerque metro area. Eligible means a center lists substance use treatment and a clinical level of care, has a street address and is open to the public. One location per organization. Each ranked center, its parent company and affiliates are screened before publication, and centers with a recent or pending patient-safety case, a government fraud case or a license action are left out. The rankings update every quarter.

Do these Albuquerque rehabs accept Medicaid or insurance?

Nearly all of them, on both counts. 9 of the 10 list Medicaid and 9 of the 10 list private insurance. Most list Medicare, and half list military insurance. Listing a payer isn’t a guarantee of coverage, so ask the program to check your coverage before intake.

What levels of care do these rehabs offer?

Most list outpatient care, and half list intensive outpatient care. A handful list residential care, a few list medical detox, and one lists partial hospitalization. The mix runs from detox through outpatient, so the right fit depends on where you’re starting.
