Avoid Greater Houston Counseling Service at all costs. They refuse to speak with you on the phone and demand you fill out extensive personal forms online before they’ll even consider scheduling an appointment. When I pushed back, explaining I wanted a simple conversation first to decide if they were a fit, they doubled down and said no forms, no service. It’s cold, impersonal, and completely tone-deaf for a counseling practice. I told them where to shove it and took my business elsewhere. Zero respect for client comfort or boundaries. Steer clear.

Hi John,

Thank you for your feedback. We’re sorry to hear that your experience with our intake process felt impersonal. As a licensed mental health practice, we are legally and ethically required to collect certain information and documentation before services can begin. These forms help us ensure your safety and provide the most appropriate care.

That said, we truly regret if our delivery came across as rigid or frustrating. We’re actively reviewing our current processes to see how we can make the experience feel more personal and accessible from the very first interaction.

If you’re ever open to giving us another chance, we’d be grateful for the opportunity to support you.

Wishing you the best,
— GHCS Leadership Team

There's an amount of pitiful irony when a mental health clinic refuses to reflect on their own negative reviews and instead choose to wall-up and defend themselves from every accusation and experience. I've heard many stories from the other side, and the way this practice operates should horrify you as a prospective client. These people are not professional, and show no care for the ACA code of ethics. There is very high turnover in this clinic. Counselors who try to do right by their clients and offer multiple-week notices so that way they can begin the process of termination with their clients are instead told their resignation is immediately effective and can no longer offer closure to their clients. A clinic that can not hold on to a singular therapist and can offer no guarantees to their client is not a clinic I would invest my time and money into. Please look elsewhere. Please, don't just take my word for it. Read the other reviews for this location and you will all see a consistent pattern of behavior coming from this place.

Hi,
We appreciate you taking the time to share your perspective. At GHCS, we take all feedback seriously and are continually working to improve the experience we offer to both our clients and our team.

While we can’t speak to internal matters in a public forum, we remain committed to ethical, client-centered care and to supporting meaningful therapeutic relationships. Transitions are sometimes necessary, but we approach each one with care and intention, always striving to keep clients informed and supported throughout the process.

We understand how important consistency is, and we welcome open dialogue that helps us grow. If you'd like to speak with someone directly, we’re always available at Info@GreaterHoustonCounselingServices.com.

Sincerely,
— GHCS Leadership Team

If your thinking of going to get therapy DO NOT GO HERE!!! I had three different therapist in a few months due to high turn over. They didn't even tell me what was going on. I went to my next session and had someone new. No explanation at all. They didn't even let me say good bye to my therapist or transition with the new one. It was a complete surprise. And I was working on abandonment issues so this didn't help it at all !!! This is not how an agency who prioritizes mental health should be dealing with people's fears and concerns. I don't care what could have happened, the clients mental health comes first. And secondly give a warning or some type of explanation of what is going on. It seems they don't take care of their clients or therapist and just want the pay for the session. See previous reviews to know I'm not the only one who's been dealing with this. Greater counseling center get it together or you'll end up shutting down due to loss of clients. Please reach out to the board on how to actually deal with these situations for future therapist and clients because this is not it.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

Treatments

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Clinical Services

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.
