Getting off substances can be really daunting, but the Ohana addiction treatment center was there for me every step of the way. I arrived in a pretty dark spot, lacking self-love and struggling, but the staff showered me with kindness and made me feel at ease and secure throughout the whole journey. I truly appreciated my time there, even with the tough situation, and I would definitely recommend it❤

Kailua Kona, HI | Located in Kailua Kona, Hawaii, Honu House Hawaii offers alcohol and drug rehab services to men and women. Their services include detoxification, residential treatment, sober companions, and family services. Clients are medically monitored during the detox process. During the removal of the addictive substances through medications that help mitigat | Treatments Programs Payment Options | I want to make clear this isn’t a slam on those who’ve had good experiences—it’s about patient safety and transparency. My concern is from reviewing one frightening 1-star account (and a matching complaint on the BBB) describing a rapid taper, lack of medical staff, and being discharged during a medical emergency. That’s deeply troubling and not what anyone needs when seeking detox and treatment in Hawaii.
If you’re thinking about The Ohana:
Ask specifically if there’s a psychiatrist and/or nurse on-site 24/7, especially during detox.
Request a written taper schedule and clarity on how emergency care is handled.
Ensure there’s a formal higher level-of-care protocol, including transport if needed.
Why be cautious? The overwhelmingly positive reviews nearly all come from first-time reviewers—which isn't typical, and raises red flags. Meanwhile, the one negative experience and official complaint line up closely.
I hope the facility addresses these serious concerns, but please do your due diligence with your safety first.

Hilo, HI | Ku Aloha Ola Mau is a part-time addiction treatment facility for adults in Keaau, Hawaii. You’ll get addiction medication and counseling. You’ll get medications | Treatments Programs Payment Options | Came from out of state to guest dose here and the process was seamless and easy. Very nice people and a great island all the way around to visit. Loved the whole island all the way around. And usually I dont post reviews but I had planned a trip previously to Tennessee which is where my sister lives. And I was guaranteed through my drs and the drs in Tennessee they everything was approved to go smoothly. Except when I got there nurses said they spoke to nurses who lied and said they didnt and they whole entire mess ruined the trip. So I wanted to make sure I gave this clinic a sparkling ✨️ review because when you're in a program that you depend on and you check all the boxes and do everything you should then things should go as promised. This clinic helped make the trip happen the way that it should. And I commend the nurses, drs, and staff members that help people like me every single day. 😊

Case mangers phone mail boxes consistently full lack of communication non compliance with American,s with Disabilities Act(A.D.A.) and A.D.AAA) federal law.
I give Care Hawaii an F- grade. They’re totally incompetent. There’s a blatant lack of oversight. If clients complain about the lack sercives they receive, they’re retaliated upon. Which is ok with the state of hawaii dept of human sevices (med Quest div) who has the reponsibility of oversight but choose ineable there blatant misconduct.
The person in charge of any oversights for the state dept of human services (med Quest div) used to work for care hawaii. Welcome to corruption at its best! They tell their clients under the community care program (ccs) that Care Hawaii has a contract with Centene. They knew that WellCare, doing business as Ohana Health Plan, who they’re also in bed with (in the hui) that they will see clients once a month (which is as mandated by the contract with med Quest) and say that there are five acuity levels of care that determines the frequency of service requirements established by the state of hawaii dept of human services (med Quest div). There’s been blatant non-complicance of C.F.R.s (Code of Federal Regulations) established by the federal dept of human services, C.M.S. (Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services), and H.H.S. (Health and Human Services) whom all suspect a lack of oversight by the state of hawaii dept of human services (med Quest div). Centene, WellCare’s new name, doing business as Ohana Health Plan, Care Hawaii, and Mental Health Kokua are all in a criminal hui — they all belong with Catherine Kealoha.

The staff encourage connection without forcing it. You grow socially without even trying sometimes. When one of us struggles with addiction, man, the ripple effect just hits everyone. And this KKH place, they totally get that. They didn't just help my brother; they became a real part of our family during the toughest, most messed-up times. The constant, clear talks, the real concern they showed for every single person involved, the way they supported us as much as him – that just made all the difference, for real. It's more than just some clinic; it's a place where families, the whole damn bunch of us, can start to heal and put things back together.
