Skywood is amazing..IF YOU WANT IT. If you are looking for a new beginning and to find yourself and discover who you are again while learning about addiction and simultaneously get sober, this is the place. The food is amazing, its absolutely beautiful, and you are surrounded by strong staff and nature. The staff is amazing, starting from intake and all the way up to the doctors. BRIE the PA IS PHENOMENAL choose her. This is NOT a summer camp for your kids that are not ready for sobriety. If your young adult child really wants help, ok, remember no one can fix someone that doesn’t want to get well, especially young adults.(18-25). This place changed my life. It was an unbelievable experience to say the least. The staff in every department were great, from the cooks, to nursing, to RA’s (big props to Ms. April!) to housekeeping to the therapists (I owe alot to my man Emmett!). They not only helped guide me to a new way of thinking and aspect but to unload alot of weight i carried for years. Its Day 101 and i feel like a better man each day. Not to mention the connections! i’m not only close to the guys i roomed with in my cabin, but am apart of a group chat of about 20 people from my stay and we all check in still and hold our own weekly meetings.
I would 100% suggest this to anyone who came to me looking for help. Thank you Skywood for giving me the tools i needed to fight this everyday battle.
I hope to one day come back as an alumni and share my experience and sober journey.

I believe in early recovery you gotta do 90/90. 90 meetings in 90 days to start change 😉😎. Remember to give yourself a break and get into NA to start working the steps of NA. The books how and why were my best tools. You must have a sponsor to work the steps. This place is great, getting sober is not easy or fun and the only issue I have personally witnessed is that yes; all of thier staff cannot be in recovery or understand us addicts but they truly have made a huge effort to adapt to this new age in which you can get into a rehab basically for free, get decent if not really good food(DFD) and have the chance to.btreak old bad habits etc. Im 39 and when I first tried to get sober at 18 or so it was incredibly difficult to find a rehab that didn’t cost 40K. Jail or the streets were your option so remember that these people are getting paid very little yet choose to work here because most of them do care but there are thinhs called HIPPA laws etc and so that takes a toll on certain aspects of how they have to structure thier program. This place was a pivotal part of my recovery journey. I was here twice, once in September 2019 and once in March 2023 (which was my last time in rehab). I’ve been to several different rehabs all over the state and I’ll say this:
Brighton isn’t the nicest facility, they don’t have the best food, but Brighton has THE BEST therapy, therapist, and THERE is where you get some of the most one-on-one time with your therapist. They give you real thoughtful work to do on your own and hold you accountable to change and doing the work if you say you really want it. Their IOP is Amazing and the sessions lead by Mo changed my life. Dudes awesome 👏
Anyway, never a fun experience but 100% would recommend.

I Was a patient here 5 years ago I started drinking at the age of 14 and got into other stuff at 19. I didn’t know how to live life without a buffer Brighton gave me the tools to begin the recovery process I am still clean and sober after a horrible detox from barbiturates and Suboxone, I am thankful and grateful everyday that I made the decision to call and ask Brighton for help. I want to take a moment to express my gratitude to this rehab center and its staff. No, it’s not a luxury retreat or a spa-like setting—but neither is prison, or worse, the morgue. This place is about recovery, not comfort, and I believe they are doing exactly what they’re meant to do: helping people get their lives back.
The staff was kind, dedicated, and truly cared. My son’s father recently completed treatment here, and while he shared that it was incredibly tough—physically, emotionally, and mentally—he also said it was nothing compared to the pain of being out on the streets, lost in his addiction. Recovery isn’t supposed to be easy. If it were, addiction wouldn’t be so hard to beat.
I’ve seen some reviews criticizing the center for not giving constant updates to family members. I get it—when someone we love is in pain, we want answers, we want involvement, we want to help. But part of the healing process means letting go of that need to control. We didn’t have control when our loved ones were in active addiction, and recovery is no different. The program is designed to build independence, accountability, and internal strength. Constant calls, questions, and attempts to interfere, even with good intentions, can undermine that.
Trust the process. Let the professionals do their job. It’s not always comfortable—but neither is addiction. Discomfort is part of growth, and growth is what this place is all about.
If you’re looking for somewhere that offers real recovery—not coddling, but healing—this is it. Let them work, and give your loved one the space to fight for their own life.

Sacred Heart started me on my recovery journey giving me the tools I needed to get sober and stay sober. I hit my 90 days sober in about 2 weeks, and I couldn’t be more happy or proud. I’m so, so, so grateful for what Sacred Heart did for me. I’ve been through 3 therapists at this clinic, they were very nice people. The service is great, the ladies at the desks are always kind and helpful.
Only things I would say is that sometimes the therapists go against your opinions and judgement and make you feel out of place or out of control. BUT all of my experiences here have been pleasant. Loved my past two therapists, Mattie DeBoe (no longer a therapist, moved to higher position) and Kelly anthi.
Compared to pine rests outpatient/inpatient care facility, this place is paradise. Their inpatient and outpatient facility has many many issues with the inpatient and resident facilities, the outpatient facilities are very helpful and welcoming, quite opposite of the inpatient.

i competed the adult PHP and i couldn’t be happier about my time at new oakland! i am a healthcare provider myself and the therapists, providers, and support staff are SO genuine and kind. being in a group therapy setting was a scary thought initially but i felt that it was a very safe space to share my experiences. i also enjoyed hearing other’s experiences as it helped to remind me that we are all going through similar issues in life. the therapists even completed the worksheets along side of us and shared their experiences about their own healing journeys which was reassuring. i’ve learned and grown so much during my time here and i am very appreciative of the employees who made it happen: zach, mara, michelle, amber and everyone else. ya’ll deserve a raise LOL. thank you!!! 🙂

An excellent place to go if you have an out of control addiction and need help. Or if you just fell off and need a hand getting back up.
Friendly staff, smoke breaks, ample time to socialize and work out our problems amongst ourselves… the place is amazing. And welcoming to people that return.
We can’t all always get it right on the first go around. Sometimes it takes two, three, four… hell, even thirty tries. But admitting that there’s a problem and working to fix it is the first step. And this place is an excellent resource if you need that kind of help.
I’m also an atheist. If you’re worried about going to a church-affiliated group, don’t be. They take a light touch with religion (mostly stuff in the daily readings), and try to be open to everyone. Same goes for LGBTQ+ folk: this is a safe place.

You get out what you put in. I’ve done therapy for many years and this facility is great. I’ve only seen my one provider, but I would believe that every other provider also offers exceptional care. Don’t read into all the bad reviews, if you are on the fence about trying them out I’d give them a chance.

I didn’t think I had time for recovery, but the flexible schedule and awesome staff made it possible! They respected my culture and never made me feel ashamed. Inpatient treatment for substance use disorder is a highly structured residential approach for individuals who need a safe and supportive space to begin recovery in Michigan. The state is commonly referred to as the “Cereal Capital of the World” because the global headquarters for Kellogg’s is in Battle Creek.
Treatment usually begins with a medical assessment and any necessary detox to manage withdrawal symptoms under supervision. Patients live at the facility for the duration of treatment, which can range from a few weeks to several months. It depends on the need and the program’s focus.
During this time, you engage in a daily schedule that may include individual therapy, group counseling, family sessions, 12-step facilitation, skill-building workshops, and relapse prevention planning. Many programs integrate trauma-informed care, co-occurring mental health support, and evidence-based therapies such as cognitive (CBT) or dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT). The residential setting removes you from environments that may reinforce substance use and provide space to focus entirely on mental health recovery. Before discharge, a personalized aftercare plan is developed to support continued progress through outpatient therapy, sober living arrangements, or community resources.
