1. Next Step Recovery – Asheville, North Carolina

Next Step Recovery is accredited by The Joint Commission and located in Asheville less than five miles from the vibrant River Arts District. The facility serves adult men who live in the greater Asheville area. 

There are three outpatient programs for alcohol and drug addiction including outpatient, intensive outpatient (IOP), and partial hospitalization programs (PHP). While in the program you’ll engage in various traditional therapy modalities. 

Additionally, they offer adventure therapy that may include such exciting activities as river rafting where you’ll learn to experience joy while free of substances. The center is in network with Blue Cross/Blue Shield and may be covered by most major insurance programs.

They also offer transitional living programs. The founder and director Susan Stader holds her MS, LCMHC, LCAS, and CCS. 

2. Southeastern Recovery Center – Drug & Alcohol Rehab – Concord, North Carolina 

Southeastern Recovery Center offers a comprehensive and integrated approach to alcohol addiction. This Joint Commission accredited center is located in Concord with easy access to I-85 and is only 11 miles from NASCAR’s Charlotte Motor Speedway. 

They offer transportation assistance and clients can choose between a PHP and an IOP. They accept insurance from most major providers. The PHP is a 30 to 45 day program that uses holistic and individualized plans for clients with substance use disorder (SUD).

The holistic approach seamlessly integrates inpatient and outpatient treatments such as group and individual therapy. 

They also offer holistic healing treatments such as adventure therapy, yoga and meditation. The IOP offers flexible day and evening options.

Clients in all programs engage in trauma informed individual and group therapy as well as experiential therapies. All programs are run by treatment professionals utilizing evidence based therapies. 

3. Dilworth Center – Charlotte, North Carolina

Dilworth Center was founded in 1990 and is a CARF accredited nonprofit mental health and addiction treatment center. 

The center is housed in the historic Dilworth neighborhood in Charlotte and is easily accessible to I-85 and I-77.

The alcohol treatment program is in network with many insurance providers and one of the nice things about this program is that patient fees are augmented by generous donations to ensure affordable, high quality and effective treatment.

5. Brighter Start Health – Wilmington, North Carolina 

Located in Wilmington, Brighter Start Health is an addiction and co-occurring mental health treatment center with accreditation from The Joint Commission. The counselors are licensed and certified and many have advanced degrees. 

Wilmington is a scenic port city known for its nature, history and coastal attractions and is a beautiful place to begin your sobriety journey. The staff treats many types of addiction including alcohol, cocaine, heroin, meth, marijuana and more with MAT provided if appropriate. They offer PHP, regular outpatient and IOP programs. 

They have a specialized support program for veterans and first responders to address the unique needs of this community. They also offer a virtual substance use IOP. Clients with drunk driving offenses (DWI) can find the court mandated treatment they need at this facility.

They accept insurance from many providers including North Carolina Medicaid and TRICARE. 

6. Freedom Detox & Recovery Center – Gastonia, North Carolina 

Freedom Detox & Recovery Center is a detox and substance use treatment facility in Gastonia, near I-85 and roughly 20 miles from Charlotte.

They accept many types of insurance including Vaya Medicaid and TRICARE and they welcome veterans. The center is Joint Commission accredited and the treatment team includes licensed and credentialed doctors, registered nurses and alcohol and drug counselors. 

The center offers medical detox and inpatient treatment for substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders. You’ll detox using standard medication treatment protocols to ensure your comfort and safety. 

If you’re looking for additional stabilization then you can continue in the residential program after detox. The program includes individual and group counseling. They offer transportation to off site 12 step meetings such as Alcoholics Anonymous (AA).

One of the unique programs here is the equine assisted therapy. Working with horses helps you build a non judgmental therapeutic bond with the animals while developing relationship skills and emotional awareness. 

7. McLeod Centers for Wellbing – Statesville, North Carolina 

McLeod Centers for Wellbing was founded in 1969 and is an addiction and mental health treatment center. The center offers outpatient, residential, and MAT medical detox treatment.
