I was in serious trouble with alcohol and substance abuse not to long ago, so I finally decided to reach out for help and I have to say it has been the best thing that I ever did for myself thanks to NJRC. The entire staff is excellent from the front desk, the administrators to all of the Clinical therapists, Medical staff and Case Managers. If you are in trouble with alcohol, substance abuse and mental health, I would highly recommend NJRC to anyone looking for help.They will definitely give you the help that you need. The intake staff lie to you and try to get you to sign a lot of unnecessary things to absolve them of responsibility of just about everything. The doctors talk to you for 1 minute per weekday maximum. They constantly break HIPPA by discussing all of your medical history in the middle of the hallway in front anybody and everybody. You do not get involved with your treatment decisions. They will prescribe you medicine without talking to you, expect you to take it, and gaslight you when you ask why they did that. The facility is run down and archaic. It feels like a literal prison. The nurses are typically unhelpful and some of them don't look like they even want to be there and are very rude. The techs are varied between helpful and not. Most of them barely speak English. Staff degrade and yell at patients for not following orders despite that the place does literally nothing treatment related except the prescription of medicine. I was seen for a condition that I don't even have according to every other doctor that I have seen in my adult life. This place just exists to milk insurance money so that their unhelpful staff can afford expensive things even though most of the "work" they do is sitting in chairs in the hallway all day having conversations in another language and laughing so loud all day long that nobody can get any rest. It's the most mind-numbingly boring place I have ever been and great if you want to feel the epitome of abandonment because literally nobody here does anything to help you at all.

I think the clinical staff does the best they can, but the environment is not the best for healing.The psychiatrist should just leave and let the social workers and therapist handle the patients. It appears to me the psychiatrists need therapy. Patients do not feel safe there

I would like to share some thoughts about Mountainside and especially our sons recovery coach Christina.
Following his completion of a 28 day in-patient program with another provider he enrolled at Mountainside Chappaqua. He is in their Outside Patient and Recovery Coaching programs. Our son and Christina have been working together for about five months. They talk daily and meet weekly. A few weeks into the program Christina began doing weekly calls with my wife and me.
Our son works with various therapists, clinicians and other staff at Mountainside. He is complimentary of the entire organization and their contribution in helping him understand his addiction and providing recovery support. My wife and I only work with Christina.
Christina is EXCELLENT. She balances professional counseling, insight, accountability, great communication skills and timely follow-up. Having walked this life herself she is highly skilled and relatable but it’s never about her. Christina cares. She has built valued trust with all of is. My wife’s and my weekly calls provide an update on his progress and any open issues. She reminds us that he is accountable for his own recovery and keeps us in our lane. Most important she has helped keep our sons recovery moving positively forward day after day.

While there are always flaws no matter where you go, it's not a one-size-fits-all. I have personally witnessed for four years many people succeed who are committed to changing their lives.
Truth is you have to not only want it but also be willing to work for it. There comes a point in an addict's life where they will do anything to change their circumstances and patterns of behavior that led to their current state, and those are the clients that succeed at Odyssey, or anywhere else.

I was so lost and giving up on life and a few good suggestions brought me here. Everyone from the friar in charge of the inn to security and maintenance made me feel welcome. The counselors are the best I’ve ever dealt with. My counselor was amazing, the physco therapist helped me realize things on my own and a former resident who is now staff related to my issues making me comfortable with the process. That guy was a godsend. These people helped me with my addiction issues more in 6 months then I’ve been able to do over the last 30 years. Since then, I went to welding school, they set me up in a halfway house in NYC, moved back home to Rochester, NY. While attending a program at the Harlem Parish next door, my mother of 91 had an non-emergency, urgent situation. We entered the facility not knowing what to expect. We were greeted with upmost respect and kindness. From the security detail at the door to the 2 receptionists at the window, these wonderful people worked collectively to get us what we need to attend the program comfortably. I am so thankful for the kindness and compassion that was extended to us.
