About PAACA

PAACA in New Bedford, Massachusetts, uses a medically informed and holistic approach to addiction recovery. They opened in 1983 in an area renowned for the whaling industry and has a rich history tied to maritime industries. PAACA offers support when you’re struggling with substance abuse or you need help understanding a loved one who is experiencing addiction. The supportive environment helps you find clarity and peace with who you are in individual and group therapy settings. Your treatment plan will focus on developing physical and emotional strength to help you take control of your life. They are dedicated to providing quality prevention and treatment services for substance abuse and addiction. They can accept insurance but provide treatment for you regardless of your income or insurance status.

They are a client led organization that focuses on providing client centered services and whole person care. Their aim is to help you see yourself holistically and to advocate for public health issues related to drug and alcohol abuse.

They offer a youth court where young people can be referred by their school, police or the court as an alternative to traditional prosecution. This offers young people the opportunity to get the help they need while diverting a juvenile criminal charge. They also offer a Drive Smart program as a six week diversion for juveniles to help educate them on the dangers of distracted and drunk driving. This allows youth to avoid expensive fines, higher insurance premiums and a license suspension.

Their Adult Substance Use Recovery Services is staffed with experienced staff members and volunteers 365 days a year. They can help provide answers when a loved one is in crisis, and they run daily self help groups to offer assistance to individuals and families in need.

They also operate several permanent supportive housing locations scattered throughout the community for people in recovery who are transitioning from being homeless and are engaged in a training program. Part of your recovery program may include employment and training to support your goal of independent living. They work closely with the criminal justice system to provide court monitoring and offer you case management services, drug testing and specialty support groups to meet your needs.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

Treatments

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Clinical Services

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.
