About Addiction Recovery Systems (ARS) on Pantrops

Located in Charlottesville, Virginia, is Addiction Recovery Systems (ARS) on Pantops. This is a CARF accredited treatment facility that provides addiction recovery services to adults struggling with a drug, alcohol, or opioid use disorder. They also have an opioid recovery program that provides you access to methadone maintenance. Their services are offered in an outpatient setting.

They accept most major insurance plans including Medicaid, Medicare, VA benefits, and other payment options. You can call them anytime to receive a free consultation.

Opioid Recovery

There is a comprehensive opioid recovery program here. If your addiction recovery needs require it, you can get connected to methadone maintenance. They also offer other FDA approved medications, including Suboxone and Vivitrol.

Medication assisted treatment (MAT) can be effective in helping you manage ongoing withdrawal symptoms. They have walk in dosing as well as early morning dosing. The only downside about their medication hours, however, is that they take place on weekdays and on Saturday, but only before 1:30 PM on weekdays and 10 AM on Saturday.

Addiction Recovery Services

There’s also an intensive outpatient program here as well. This program is suitable for all individuals, including those who are just starting MAT. With this programming, you’ll work with dedicated and highly experienced counselors who will help you learn tangible recovery skills to help you work through the challenges you’re facing.

Ancillary Recovery Services

Addiction Recovery Systems stands out because they also offer ancillary recovery services such as DUI evaluations, screenings and assessments, case management services, family counseling support, and community education programs.

Going beyond just being a traditional methadone clinic, this provider allows you to get connected with the services you need to help you work through and overcome your substance abuse struggles.

I paid over 4000 dollars because the front office said they didn't accept my insurance in January 2024. My insurance company informed me in Nov 2024 that they did participate with my insurance. Now they don't want to pay me my money back. They are trying to get money from my insurance company but not pay me. I am now filing a civil suit. Watch out, this company is a joke and they don't care about the patients, they care about the money. Use UVA clinic instead. Save your money and the stress. Don't go to ARS looking for help.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient programs are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Traditional outpatient counseling requires attendance once a week while “intensive outpatient programs” require attendance of three or four times per week.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Clients participating in a rehab aftercare program receive comprehensive and customized support as they leave high-intensity treatment, reintegrate into their community, and focus on maintaining their sobriety. These programs offer a wide variety of services to align with the client's unique and evolving needs, often including medical, mental health, and social service program referrals. Clients typically develop their drug rehab aftercare plan in conjunction with their case manager and care team.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

When you enroll in drug rehab in Virginia, a treatment plan is designed by professional staff in order to help you overcome drug addiction and modify addictive behaviors. This may include evidence-based treatments, group and individual therapy, and relapse prevention.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
lgbtq-program thumbnail image
LGBTQ Program
Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a clinical approach to helping people with substance abuse issues and other conditions shift behavior in positive ways. It is more goal-oriented than traditional psychotherapy, as MI counselors directly attempt to get clients to consider making behavioral change (rather than wait for them to come to conclusions themselves). Its primary purpose is to resolve ambivalence and help clients become able to make healthy choices freely.

Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) is a way of getting nicotine into the bloodstream without smoking. It uses products that supply low doses of nicotine to help people stop smoking. The goal of therapy is to cut down on cravings for nicotine and ease the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

The only competent staff leave as soon as possible requiring patient to establish new relationships constantly. No continuity with rules and regulations. Two excellent counselors out of 20 over more than a decade.Avoid if possible.

A sort of clean, neat, and organized setting. It was closer to home but I rather drive the little extra to another place because it is reaaaaally expensive. It is almost abusive that they charge you so much.

The staff was amazing, it was my first time ever in treatment but they all made it so easy for me. Well, all of them except the counselor. since he only sits listening and waiting for other group members to advise you (why?)

The three years I've been there I never failed a single drug test made it up the 30-day take homes And I've never seen a more unorganized disrespectful cover for each other group of so-called professionals in my entire life. Of course I can't prove it but they told me I failed for fentanyl and I believe the drug screen lady tampered with my test because I haven't used drugs in almost 4 years and it's funny that I failed the very next drug screen after holding her accountable for being unprofessional. They've missed meetings we have scheduled ,I've waited for phone calls that I never got from the director. every single lady at the dispensary Windows talks and acts like they're at a probation office. Megan the so-called doctor nurse they have there has a major power Trip issue and acts like she's untouchable and literally just does what she wants around there. I absolutely hate going there cuz it's never as simple as just getting my take homes and leaving it's always some clown show that I got to go through first I wouldn't recommend this clinic to the worst dying drug addict on Earth ! The only person there who maintains her professionalism on a daily basis is Chris the lady that puts you into the system when you first come in besides that the rest of them should all be fired. Might I add at no point at the time I've been there have I ever been congratulated for doing a good job yet they continuously we'll try to find any reason to get your take homes taken away or demoted it's never a good job for passing your drug screen they only want to see you fail so they can take something I don't care what they think about me this post is the absolute truth and I hope they read it but the problem is nothing will change they will continue to cover for one another while trying to take or demerit us for anything they can how sad is it in 3 years I've never failed a drug screen and I've never been congratulated one time but it's funny how I hold the drug test lady accountable for her actions and I fail my very next drug screen for fentanyl and boy if they didn't call me fast on that they don't care about anybody doing a good job they don't care about anybody's mental health there they only care about your money and taking your bottles as soon as they can and as fast as they can those people disgust me they're only there for their job and a paycheck they know absolutely nothing about addiction and mental health you're all pathetic and you know what's sad .....,......everyone of em knows it's true

Decent place to get clean if you have the proper mindset (most don't, but blame their failure incorrectly on ARS). However, in some bizarre cost cutting measure, they threw away their perfect working computer system for another, and now I am constantly being overcharged, to the point of lunacy. The ONE employee they have to oversee this is overworked and can't do it alone, which results in me being charged for 14 days in a 7 day period - over and over again. It's maddening.
