My experience at New Life Christian Retreat Center was truly memorable. The location is stunning, exuding peace and tranquility. The staff members are warm, helpful, and accommodating without being intrusive. The accommodations are cozy, and spacious. The retreat center has on-property access to the North Anna River and scenic forest trails. I was there for a women's retreat, but would suggest this site for a wedding, family reunion, or just a place to unplug and relax. If you want to get out for a daytrip, the area has plenty of historical attractions, plus the retreat center is not far from Ashland Berry Farm, Lake Anna State Park, and Kings Dominion. My group stayed on the property -- you'll understand why when you see it. Personally, I left feeling rejuvenated and uplifted after my stay at New Life Christian Retreat Center. I highly recommend this place.

Day 280 the excellent home geriatric doctor is awesome. The benefits are excellent. We’ve adapted and so appreciate the VA! Day 2 and not as impressed but they did fix a wrong scan order so we didn’t have to pack up and leave. Was told meds ready and not there yet. A very long day running around getting nothing done. Day 1 was very impressed with the care my 93 yr old vet fatherin-law received today. He couldn’t have asked for more. All difficulties were addressed, the nearby UVA pharmacy was super speedy and convenient. A different specialty drug through the VA pharm was free and can now be taken.. They have MDs that can come to your house. We got appts lined up a week after we called. Everyone was super awesome. The RN couldn’t been nicer. MD super thorough. A wonderful asset for veterans! We waded through another VA out of state and it was hell getting things set up and no thoroughness medically but also provided great services. We’re happy to find this easier. Thank u!

They will take away any and all ideas or stigmas you may have had about a rehab facility. Everyone employed there is truly engaged to make your stay wonderful and to help you become a better version of yourself. I imagine most will find that the experience will open you up to more than just kicking an addiction. You will find your inner strength and identity and become the person you were always meant to be.

Edit Aug 2026: I still like this place & think it's better than most other clinics in the Richmond area. There have been some screwups over the years but mostly I've had good experiences. Things definitely also depend on your own attitude & your counselor, so switch counselors if you're not a match with yours. Original: This place has improved drastically since the new director has taken over approx 1 year ago. Its the only clinic that has ever shown me they actually care about their patients. Awful lady who gives you your meds at the window (Tunisia?) is gone, also so is awful front desk lady (Cheryl). I made a complaint about them 2 weeks after new director took over and didnt receive retribution or bad treatment they actually told me I was 100% right, I could not be any more right, what can they do to correct this? I couldnt believe it, as someone in recovery, I had never been treated this way (treated well!). There are many wonderful people now working at this place! Much better clinic than ANY of the others in the area

I've been going here for 6months and before that I was at the VA. There's a few differences between them both but most of all I can tell the Care. I have had 2 Counselors which is understandable considering the work load they have. Since the begining I have been happy and impressed how easy they made my transferring. I started just where I left off at the VA.The only thing I don't agree with or understand is when getting an increase u have to pick up for 3days before getting ur tak homes. I can understand this policy when u a starting out. But it doesn't make much sense after that. I can also say when there was a problem with my pick up (ther Mistake) my councler fixed and had all my bottles in 30mins. All I can say is If u work the program it works. Thank you

I moved into the Avalon house about 8 months ago. It has really become a home to me. There is a lot of women in one home but we all manage to get along rather well. The Avalon house has been a safe , supportive, clean environment. We operate similar to the Oxford model in that we hold one another accountable. Anastasia is a hands on housing manager but she gives you the room you need to be an adult and make the decisions for your recovery that you feel are right. If you follow the rules, and prove to her that you’re trustworthy then she affords you that trust and she is understanding. I truly believe that Avalon is one of the main reasons that I’ve been successful in my recovery thus far. It’s imperative in early recovery to surround one’s self with like minded people and Avalon is absolutely a home that you will find the resources you need to grow and thrive into the person you want to be. I absolutely suggest this home to anyone that is willing to put in the work to live a sober life. It’s all about what we put into it that determines what we get out of it.

Been living at one of Anastasia's houses for over a year, I came to this place via a treatment center and have stayed since. The structure and supportive environment of the house, its owners and its other tenants have helped me to achieve the longest amount of sober time I've had since I first picked up a bottle.

Avalon is simply the best. The owner, Anastasia, is so genuinely invested in the success of every member in her program. She holds people accountable while also offering grace. She stands her ground on what she believes but also takes the time to truly listen. She's involved, caring, and earnestly invested in the path of recovery for every person she meets. You won't leave this program without being impacted by what she and avalon has to offer. It develops structure, elevates discipline, and guides people from a state of "is this possible?" to a reality of unfathomable possibilities and complete change. Avalon doesn't just change lives, it saves them

McShin Foundation is a peer-driven recovery community organization and substance use treatment provider
McShin really helped guide me and find a better way of life. Out of all my past attempts in recovery over the years, there were some things I chose not to do and do it my way. That never worked. McShin helped me find and do those things I always needed to do in order to find a better way to live. For one, finding a solid community and connections with people in recovery. I finally have a community of people I love to see and be around and can enjoy life with sober. All you need to do when you come to McShin is be open minded, honest and willing. If you can do those 3 things then McShin will help you change your life!! I am SO beyond grateful for everything the staff and everyone in the Mcshin community has done for me. Shoutout to April, my amazing house leader, who taught me a lot of things and helped me grow in many ways that I really needed. Shoutout to Danny, the woman’s program director, she handles and does so much for all the girls in Mcshin for both the mom house and sober living! I literally have not had to buy one pack of diapers the whole time I have been here thanks to Danny and Jesse. I REALLY appreciate ya’ll. Thank you guys for loving me and showing me a better life. Thank you for providing for baby Faith and I. thank you for guiding me in my motherhood and sobriety journey. I appreciate everything so much. I love you guys.

I have left a review on Tucker Pavillion before, but I have to do it again on another account to applaud how amazing the staff are at this behavioral health hospital. Throughout many years from the age 14-18, I was a very troubled teen who struggled with severe post traumatic issues, all of the staff including Adolescent (1 west), 3 east, 3 west, 2 east, were absolutely amazing to me. Every single time I was admitted to this hospital, I was treated with the upmost dignity and respect. A lot of people sit here and say a lot about this hospital, but please keep in mind it is a behavioral health hospital, it will be boring, and it won’t be the most fun place on earth. It is a safe place for so many of us to get help, as a teenager looking in every direction for somebody to help her with her severe bpd, they helped me, they were the only hospital to actually openly listen to me and everything I was going through, be thorough with my medications, and discharge instructions & recommendations. In 1 west there are so many staff I will very well remember for the rest of my life, so many staff I remember even though now I am almost 20 years old. Staff who made a difference in every single day for the rest of my life. I trusted this hospital with my life and they are the one hospital who succeeded at taking care of me and making me feel comfortable. I could sit here and list names, but those who made a difference know exactly who they are in my life. I have now been in bpd remission since October 2024 and have not been admitted to tuckers since then. I am thriving in life now due to some of the skills these safe gave me after repeatedly giving me a warm welcome back when I needed the extra support. 1 west and 3 east both get a special shoutout for being overall superior and having some of the best staff on both units for adults & adolescents. Obviously some people will have things to say, like I said this is a behavioral health unit, but Tuckers never failed to go above and beyond for me when I was in some of the worst moments & crisis of my life. Years later I am grateful for Tuckers and their intervention in my life. I hope those staff remember my name too. All love always ~ Lanie🤍

I was amazed at my improvement during my time working with PT Jocelyn and PTA Cole at the Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center Rehabilitation Services facility. When I went I was only trying to improve movement in my left shoulder. They assessed my entire physical condition and went to work helping me address and improve my entire physique. One of my stretch goals was to return to paddle boarding and kayaking. This place is actually quite good, but I'm not sure if I would recommend it to anyone new if you have other options. At least not right now. I've been going for months and everything was fine and now it's like I see different counselors every time I go. So I have to keep reiterating my story, specific issues, the supplements I take, etc. over and over again it makes things a little messy. Things have to be a little more consistent for proper assistance. The turnover rate is bad over there right now which is usually not a good sign. But I don't know what's going on or why. I've probably seen like 7 different counselors now. The people at the front desk are awesome though and the counselors I have seen numerous times are great, understanding and helpful. I will update my review in a month or two, hopefully things get better there and stay like that for them.

I've been counseled by Linda Modelfino for a few months now and she's been great! She listens very well to my needs and has helped me find a diagnosis that fits my symptoms better than any counselor I've been to.

Coming to Archstone was probably one of the best decisions I have ever made. My first initial appointment was so in depth and detailed, I felt like they really cared about me and wanted to know about my health. Linda is amazing, she is very kind, she does an amazing job, and always listens to how you feel. Whenever you have a question or a concern, she always makes you feel heard. I would recommend her to everybody! Linda is the first psychiatrist I’ve had that I feel actually cares about how I feel instead of just brushing things off. This place is 10/10! ⭐️

Great experience working with the doctor and the team of support specialists. The team worked together in providing the highest quality care and managed the entire process seamlessly. A well managed institution with highest level of professionals cautiously managing each stage of the process.

Everyone from the ER admission through my husband's hospital admission were fantastic. His bedside nurses and the hospitalist were stellar! With one exception, the virtual sitter was rude, lacked compassion and empathy and treated him with zero respect. I was in the room for his entire admission and saw this first hand.

I went to Boxwood back in 2007, I was literally at my rock bottom. This place changed my life. I was clean for 10 years. I relapsed because of poor decisions on my part. However it was the tools that I had learned from Boxwood that made it so I was able to get clean again. I wouldn’t be here today without them.
