Dr. Toombs and all the staff at the Midlothian Brightview location are very welcoming, professional, and helpful. Even though there is a location 3 miles from my home in Prince George, I continue to travel the 30 minute ride to the Midlothian location. I am sure they are just as good, but I have to go where I feel most welcomed, helped, and comfortable.

I started just where I left off at the VA.The only thing I don't agree with or understand is when getting an increase u have to pick up for 3days before getting ur tak homes. I can understand this policy when u a starting out. But it doesn't make much sense after that. This is the only MAT program clinicnive ever been to but they have been amazing. If you are serious about your recovery they most definitely are going to help you. I've had a couple friends go to other clinics and from what was said FCCR is more strict and that's so important. Especially if you are serious about your recovery and do really want to better yourself and your life. The office staff is amazing there. The nurses are wonderful. I've had 3 different counselors due to 2 of them moving on to better their lives, but every counselor I have had has been wonderful. Very helpful. Easy to talk to. Thank you FCCR for being there and helping me better myself and my life. "It works if you work it"

I’ve been going here for 6 now. When BHG took over the old clinic, River City, there were growing pains as any company has going through a takeover. Then the pandemic happens during the takeover. Staff was leaving left & right because patients blamed them for literally EVERTHING. The patients refused to see the bigger picture and wanted to blame staff for following the pandemic rules. BHG was the only clinic in RVA excepting new patients during the pandemic because they genuinely want to SAVE LIVES! Somehow so many patients complained about so many new patients holding up lines. Anyway, with all of that being said, I’ve seen staff come & go BUT THE STAFF THEY HAVE NOW IS SO CARING & want nothing but THE best for us!!! Dr. Swainey is so down to earth once you see how much he relates to us, you’ll have so much respect for his compassion to help us that are stuck in this awful cycle. I could write a book on how much I’ve grown to adore the staff & they ALL deserve the absolute best in life. Every single one of them have played a part in my new outlook of life and I owe that to them. <3

Avalon Recovery House is a sober living facility in Richmond, Virginia. They provide outpatient addiction treatment and sober living for adults. Avalon Recovery provides a warm and structured environment f | Treatments Programs Payment Options | I moved into the Avalon house about 8 months ago. It has really become a home to me. There is a lot of women in one home but we all manage to get along rather well. The Avalon house has been a safe , supportive, clean environment. We operate similar to the Oxford model in that we hold one another accountable. Anastasia is a hands on housing manager but she gives you the room you need to be an adult and make the decisions for your recovery that you feel are right. If you follow the rules, and prove to her that you’re trustworthy then she affords you that trust and she is understanding. I truly believe that Avalon is one of the main reasons that I’ve been successful in my recovery thus far.
It’s imperative in early recovery to surround one’s self with like minded people and Avalon is absolutely a home that you will find the resources you need to grow and thrive into the person you want to be. I absolutely suggest this home to anyone that is willing to put in the work to live a sober life. It’s all about what we put into it that determines what we get out of it.

Been living at one of Anastasia's houses for over a year, I came to this place via a treatment center and have stayed since. The structure and supportive environment of the house, its owners and its other tenants have helped me to achieve the longest amount of sober time I've had since I first picked up a bottle.

Avalon is simply the best. The owner, Anastasia, is so genuinely invested in the success of every member in her program. She holds people accountable while also offering grace. She stands her ground on what she believes but also takes the time to truly listen. She's involved, caring, and earnestly invested in the path of recovery for every person she meets.
You won't leave this program without being impacted by what she and avalon has to offer. It develops structure, elevates discipline, and guides people from a state of "is this possible?" to a reality of unfathomable possibilities and complete change.

Master Center for Addiction Medicine truly stands out among all the recovery services I’ve used in Richmond over the past 10 years. My journey has included many ups and downs, including several stints in different rehabs, but looking back, every step led me here—and I’m so grateful for it.
Provider Brittney has been a cornerstone of my recovery. She is exceptionally professional and knowledgeable, customizing my recovery plan and ensuring all my medical questions are answered with empathy. Brittney always makes me feel safe and comfortable to share openly, and I appreciate her dedication more than words can express.
My Recovery Coach Gavin is, without a doubt, one of the most important influences in my success. Before every meeting with Brittney, Gavin checks in on me to review my progress. His experience and guidance have been a genuine guiding light and reason for my growth. Gavin’s big heart, professionalism, and absolute dedication to helping others shine through in everything he does.
If you’re searching for a team that truly cares, is knowledgeable, and is ready to support you through every part of your journey, look no further. 10/10 stars, highly recommended!

The McShin Foundation has played a life-changing role in my substance abuse recovery. When I came to McShin, I was lost, overwhelmed, and unsure of how to rebuild my life. What I found there was a community that believed in me even when I didn’t believe in myself.
The staff and peers at McShin provided not only structure and accountability, but also genuine compassion and support. They helped me understand recovery in a new way—through honesty, connection, and personal responsibility. The peer-to-peer model made a huge difference for me, because I was surrounded by people who had been where I was and came out stronger.
McShin gave me the tools to stay clean, rebuild my confidence, and start moving toward a healthier, more stable future. They didn’t just help me get sober—they helped me understand why my recovery mattered and how to maintain it day by day.
I’m grateful for everything McShin has done for me: the guidance, the encouragement, the safe environment, and the belief that I could change my life. I wouldn’t be where I am today without their support.
If you’re struggling and looking for a recovery community that truly cares and truly works, the McShin Foundation is the place to start.

I went here for the first time when I was 13. I was scared and had just attempted suicide. This was the first hospital I had ever been in and I had no idea what to expect. Luckily I was greeted by calm and welcoming staff ( even though it was the middle of the night ) And I know for sure that deeply helped my treatment. We had really helpful therapy throughout the day and I never felt judged for a single second. I actually made some deep friends who Ive kept in contact with for years and years. (I don’t recommend this but still) I am now doing a lot better after a lot more treatment and I am so much happier then I was in those dark days. One thing I really appreciated was that they never tried to put me on tons of medication like a lot of places have ( in my personal experience ) and I would completely trust tucker Pavilion with any member of my family. I’m now happily off medication and on meditation. Thanks so much Tucker!

Tuckers (specifically adolescent, and 3 adult units) are absolutely amazing, all of the staff do make sure to care for their patients and we aren’t left behind in the dust and don’t feel that way either. Over the times I’ve come to tuckers more times than I can count since 2021. Tuckers has been a vital support in my remission journey, which I now have been in since October 2024 which was the last time I was even admitted here. I have not been admitted since then. Tuckers quickly became my safety net hospital because it’s where I felt I was going to be the most safe and cared for. I was honest with staff and told them how I felt, I did have my moments and I apologize for those. But Tuckers is such a vital support in my journey, and I will never forget a lot of the staff in this facility even if they no longer work here. I appreciate everything that was done for me and all of the care that was situated for me. I could list the staff that really stuck out to me but we’d be here a while LOL, cause it was majority of them over the years. Thank you Tuckers for actually caring about your patients. There are staff I will never forget!

Richmond, VA | New Season Treatment Center – Richmond is an outpatient opioid addiction treatment and recovery facility in Richmond, Virginia. Residents of Henrico and Bon Air will also benefit from their comprehen | Treatments Programs Payment Options | This would be a 5 star review if one of the pharmacy workers didn't consistently have a bad attitude with patients. An African American woman typically at window 4, with long braided hair seems to have a habit of being sour, mean and just unprofessional. After talking to FIVE other patients, it's generally agreed that she's the dosing nurse everyone dreads getting - "rude", "mean", "judgemental", "takes 5 minute breaks between calling people" these are some of the comments other patients made for when she bothers to call anyone at all. Usually only 2 of the 6 windows are staffed, and the workload definitely by and large gets pushed onto the other dosing nurse, when there is a huge influx of patients. Originally I thought she just didn't like me, but it seems she gets personal gratification out of not medicating patients in a timely manner, making them wait while she chats with people, etc., meanwhile the patients are in active withdrawal, have to go to work, have things to do, and can't sit around at a methadone clinic all morning. The program director is an absolute gem, and the counselors are super thoughtful and helpful. All in all everyone there seems to have a positive energy and outlook, and the staff is lovely-- except for this dosing nurse who sits around chit chatting and forwarding patients to the program director (who I assume already has a lot on her plate) or their respective counselors, when she bothers calling anyone at all.
I had to bother the program director multiple times because of a mishap with the app, and when she came by and personally told the dosing nurse that she was fine to dose me, she snapped back with "so we're just going to ignore that she lied about paying?" - the program director dismissed her comment and I responded with "I didn't lie, the program director has already confirmed this", to which she thought the professional thing to do as an employee was to argue it further with "Yes you did", to which I, again, told her I did not. She then put me on hold so she could "call me later". No reason given. (I assume this is her "punishment"- making someone with active cardiac issues wait for a dose, thereby increasing my risk of cardiac arrest when the admin already okayed me), I waited an hour as she kept calling other patients and eventually I went up to the program director for the third time- bless her heart, and just told her that I felt that the woman at the 4th window didn't like me and was purposely refusing to dose me. She took me off of hold and even though window 4 was empty, she just kept calling everyone EXCEPT me. I ended up dosing with someone else. After dosing I watched her consistently call patients maybe once every 7 ish minutes, and a lot of them she would turn away to go bother the program director. It shouldn't be up to the program director to resolve issues as absurd as a dosing nurse .... refusing to do her job "because she doesn't like someone". Genuinely no idea what someone with such a terrible attitude is doing working at a clinic that serves a demographic that she's clearly judgemental towards and resentful of. She's just making everyone's lives harder; the patients with her attitude, the staff because she doesn't seem to pull her weight, the company because she's being paid to basically not really do her job, and her hassling of patients and withholding medication can literally lead to someone one day suing the clinic, should god forbid something happen due to a pre-existing medical condition (like me having a heart attack when it's noted that my dose only lasts about 12 hours, not 24, due to a medical condition called malabsorption and my preexisting serious heart condition when withdrawal is known to exacerbate tachycardia.) Sitting around with a 150+ heart rate, visibly shaking because the dosing nurse thinks it's her place to "teach you a lesson" by withholding medication and refusing to do her job for personal reasons is completely unacceptable. The entire time I was waiting she was sparsely calling other patients and laughing around with her colleagues.

Anyone who has been in treatment, such as myself, knows that some days are better than others. It's just the reality of the situation, but I have never found more genuine care and support than I do at this place. They're going to help pick you back up and get you back on track. Ms. Jane Ann and some of the other staff there are like family to me and I wouldn't be here without them . Recovery is hard, but if you're willing to do your part and make at least an effort, they will be there till the end ✨️

Great nurses! My hospitalist was wonderful. I wish the docs communicated more with one another

I went to St Mary’s Hospital for a scheduled appointment for heart catheterization with angiography, thinking, at worse, they might place a couple of stents and let me go home in a couple of hours. Lo and behold, Dr Whitkamp found several arteries (multivessel) blocked 70-90 percent. When he showed the pictures to surgeon, Dr Fiser, they decided they have to perform quadruple bypass surgery
asap; my condition couldn’t wait the normal two weeks’ scheduling. All this time, I was asymptomatic and wasn’t aware that I was a walking time bomb.
I was completely sedated when the surgery was performed. Waking up was a little scary. They told me the surgery was complete and I had all these breathing tubes sticking out of my mouth while I was being wheeled over to ICU. I didn’t have control over my breathing, and I couldn’t tell anyone that “I can’t breathe!” The ytubes in my mouth made talking impossible. The panic had set in.
In retrospect, I was breathing through the tubes. Someone then told me to relax and let the tubes do the breathing, I did, and the rhythm fell into place.
At the ICU I was placed in a room with curtains. I don’t recall exact sequence of events but the nurses did everything to make me feel comfortable. They would come in at scheduled times to check my vitals, administer medications as needed, as well as attend to my comfort, such as adjusting the head incline at the bed, placing pillows where I wanted them, cleaning me up with the disinfectant wipes, etc. They were all kind and nice.
I count my blessings to be admitted to the ICU on the weekend. The weekend day nurse, Gabby and the night nurse, I believe her name was Charlene (pardon my memory), were both personable and performed their duties in professional yet friendly manner. This is not to take anything away from the rest of the nurses who’d fill in or come in to help, as needed. Sierra, who took care of me on my last day at ICU and who wheeled me to cardiac step down unit, was another friendly yet professionally diligent nurse.
At the step down unit, I was blessed to be attended by Grace, the night nurse, and Jillian, the day nurse. They both took good care of me and I shall remain obliged.
The other part of the recovery team, ie physical therapy, occupational therapy, etc. all did a great job in preparing me to leave the hospital.
Bon Secour has a wonderful at home care patient service. So far, within a week, I have had three nurses’ visits, two visits from the physical therapist, and one from the occupational therapist, with more visits to follow.
All in all, I’m grateful to the Lord, and to the medical staff at St Mary’s Hospital for giving me another shot at life. It was curiosity about my coronary artery calcium (CAC) score that ultimately led to the path where severe multi-vessel blockage was discovered, and the doctors, in their due diligence, decided I had to get a bypass right away.
The only complain I have is, as a vegan, there wasn’t much meal option for me, and the meal they served was unpalatable. Perhaps the meal was served when I was pumped up with fluids, hence I had no appetite, but I had to put most of the meal down after taking a bite. I would advise Bon Secour that, since eating wholesome and nutritious meals is imperative towards their patients’ recovery, they should often partake in tasting the meals they serve to their patients to see if they would eat it. If not, then changes would need to be made. Several of the nurses had shared that I wasn’t the only one complaining.
In conclusion, I’m impressed with the quality of care I received at St Mary’s Hospital. All the staff were professional, friendly and accommodating.
Update (10-26-25): I would be completely remiss if I didn't mention Paulo, the nurse at the admissions, who also took a wonderful care of me. In preparation for my surgery, he had hooked me up to IV, frequently checked on me, and accommodated my request with gentle yet upmost care. Paulo is an exemplary of the superb nursing staff I would encounter throughout my stay St Mary's Bon Secours subsequently.

True Recovery changed my life entirely. I could never repay them for lending me the strength and guidance I couldnt find in myself at the time. In just a few short months it was like I transformed into someone I was proud to be. I had more than sobriety, I had recovery. Internaĺly I was as rich as I could be, all while holding a job and paying my own bills for the first time too. I was able to do things for/with my daughter that I'd never done. It was an amazing experience and I recommend True Recovery to anyone. I am living proof that it works.
