About Alpena Regional Hospital Center

Alpena Regional Hospital Center is a comprehensive multi departmental hospital in Alpena, Michigan. The center includes a behavioral health department where they treat addiction and mental illness.

This hospital is a lot like most hospitals you’re familiar with where they have departments for different specialties like cardiology and women’s health. Within the behavioral health department, though, they have inpatient and outpatient treatment for mental illness and drug and alcohol addiction. With such a strong mental health program, this is an especially good prospect for people who have dual diagnosis. That means you are experiencing a substance use disorder as well as one or more mental health conditions.

Your treatment here is individualized to what you need for your one of a kind recovery journey. The facility is part of the expansive University of Michigan Health system, too, so if they don’t have the specific level of care you need here, or if you need different levels of care at different times in your recovery journey, they’ll be able to coordinate your care with the right facility.

Went to grab a random chair in the hallway for my husband so he could sit down because he has medical problems and this nurse walks by and says what are you doing? I said getting a chair and she said no put it back! Wow! Have some compassion! It was a random exam room chair, Dr was cocky! Our nurse was good, not feeling any compassion whatsoever! It seems like they are very uneducated here as well

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

Treatments

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.

Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Military Program
Serving in the military is both mentally and physically challenging, and can result in trauma that persists even after combat ends. Military programs are tailored to the specific and often complex needs of active duty personnel, veterans, and military families. Clients often access these programs through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

Absolute bullshit hospital one of the doctors that was with me when I got put in er for medical evaluation got on a disgusting power trip and tried to enforce legal authority on my and be raided me for no reason and deserves to be terminated from his position, I hope an investigation takes place on this individual but I do not remember their name to be able to say it but I experienced a great deal of unwarranted trauma and ptsd there because of him, thank you and I will be contacting my lawyer.

I have had multiple inpatient stays and surgeries thru this hospital and I would and do recommend them to everyone. Dr. Christopher Brodkin in particular is a WONDERFUL doctor who truly respects and listens to his patients while providing excellent care. The nurses and staff are all just very understanding, caring people our area is lucky to have.

Both my husband and I have had several surgeries at My Michigan Alpena. We have always received excellent care. Staff is very caring, organized, knowledgeable, supportive friendly. The rooms are very clean and comfortable with a great view. Food is good too. Just had a knee replacement performed by Dr Mauch. She is an outstanding surgeon! Highly recommend.

I took my dad here for hip replacement surgery and had no idea what to expect. The entire experience was wonderful. From the check in, pre-op, post-op, therapy to getting discharged was seamless. The waiting area was very nice and all the staff was kind, energetic and knowledgeable. Each patient and their support person(s) are well informed and taken care of. Thank you MyMichigan Alpena!

I waited 2 hours at tawas and left to be seen in alpena in half the time. I'll go back to alpena every time. Not only did they figure out my knees but they helped me get a pcp and they set up my referral for orthopedics. I couldn't be more grateful for the care I received. And my nurse was sassy but the good sassy I loved it!! Thank you for taking care of me and always getting us in so quick!

Not the Alpena Michigan branch…my step granddaughter who is under a year went to ER was diagnosed with RSV and Pneumonia. The ER dr and RT were great. They wanted to admit her but when the pediatrician came down to see her and she sent them home. Now she is on her way to a trauma hospital after not being able to breathe via ambulance from a different hospital . This has happened other times to other children. It’s a damn shame I hope no child gets hurt or worse in this facility. TY to the ER and RT and as for the pediatrician you are lazy for not wanting to do the admit and now this darling baby pays the price. Go somewhere else with your sick children.
