I went here almost two years ago. The staff were awful, one of the staff members were often caught vaping in patient places. I saw the staff member vaping twice. I left this place worse then I got there. It got to a point of not focusing on getting better but focusing on getting out. Staff members got involved with the teen drama, and one of staff members downplayed a patients hallucinations.

Hey it's Stony. (This is a true story.)Yeah, it really was fun! -ish... I mean the amazing chef and the girls. The war stories and a staff basically glorifying his past PCP experiences was a trip! This cowboy kid and a roommate ran away to get drunk with a hobo and showed back up at the house just obliterated! That stuff was comedy GOLD. I remember bumming cigarettes at a Cocaine Anonymous meeting, but the staff caught us smoking in our room! Thankfully, I went unnoticed. My second time at CFD I went AWOL with another client. Staff chased us to the Metro station where we sparked up a Marlboro while they attempted to change our minds. We hopped the train then roamed DTLA, meeting girls and smoking joints before hitting Hollywood Blvd. With our new acquaintances, we drank Pabst and blazed up a neat lil Panda pipe After getting some rest in a chilly stairwell downtown, we searched for a warmer spot, which led us to rummaging through a parking garage security booth. There was $20 in a drawer that bought us two tickets to Oceanside. My road dog called his parents to pick him up. When they arrived they had my family on the phone and tried to convince me to turn myself in. I said "I'm not going back" then hopped the coaster to Old Town and made my way to Ocean Beach. That night I partied at some musicians condo, tried shooms and coke and drank at a bar, all for the firt time. Afterwards we parted ways. Thinking the night was over I ran into a cute 25 year old blond girl who kicked it with me for the rest of that night.I was 16 and had just embarked on a journey that I would never forget.I'm now in the music industry and honestly, I Thank CFD.. a lot.If it wasn't for those two days I never would have experienced the beautiful, dreadful, extreme and ironic events that brought me to where I am today. I am extremely blessed to have gained this wisdom and XP. Shout out to the ones who know My IG is @onlymericasfinest Say hey LOVE

Discovery in Long Beach is a beautiful facility with kind and loving staff. My daughter was here for a very short time and even though the program wasn t equipped to meet her needs at the time the staff still showed incredible dedication, kindness, and compassion while she was there and even went above my expectations in helping with next steps. Unfortunately, my daughter has been to a number of facilities and Discovery Long Beach will stand out as one of the best we have worked with. I always want/research the best for my daughter and I m confident if she was there with an open mind to receiving treatment Discovery would have provided it.Thank you to all the staff for all you do.

Other Forms of Payment

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive outpatient programs (IOP) support a client's sustained sobriety as they exit detox or step down from an inpatient program. IOPs are also designed for clients who are at an elevated risk of relapse. Intensive outpatient treatment typically requires clients to engage in a minimum of nine hours of therapy per week, but clients may receive up to 20 therapeutic hours weekly. IOP treatment modalities often combine psychotherapy, recovery-focused life skills training, and medication assisted treatment (MAT).
partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program
A partial hospitalization program (PHP) is a short-term form of intensive rehab, usually for those with acute symptoms that are hard to manage but don’t require 24-hour care. PHPs have structured programming (i.e. individual and/or group therapy), and usually meet 3-5 days a week for around 6 hours (i.e. 9am-3m). Some PHPs are residential (patients sleep on site) and some are not, so patients sleep at home. PHPs can last from 1-6 months, and some offer transportation and meals.

Treatments

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.

Clinical Services

Cognitive behavioral therapy in California is a method that therapists often use for the effective treatment of substance use disorders. It is based on the principle that substance abuse stems from unhelpful ways of thinking and patterns of behavior, which can be changed by helping the individual learn better ways of coping.

While participating in dialectical behavior therapy in California, you'll focus on four key areas of skill development: mindfulness, interpersonal effectiveness, emotion regulation, and distress tolerance. Treatment includes weekly individual and group sessions.

Creativity is inherently healing, and can help those in recovery express thoughts or feelings they might not otherwise be able to. Creative arts therapy can include music, poetry/writing, painting, sculpting, dance, theater, sandplay, and more. Unlike traditional art, the final product matters far less than the experience of creation and expression itself.

I feel like people often forget that you have to put in the work for your recovery. And it has changed over the years. The staff is there for you if you need help, you can check in with them if you need help. There are one on one sessions and family therapy. Theres group therapy and community service. There are many types of therapy. All of the patients that I saw were very nice and welcoming, and excited to see a new kid. Not to mention very supportive. The food is great and theres vegetarian options and always the option for a sandwich or leftovers. This review comes from my experience here. I was there for 36 days and enjoyed my stay.

First of all, I have been waiting for this day for 2 months to pick my son up when HE was ready and that day was today. Second, I have been waiting to write this review. It's soo sad to go thru some of the reviews and see the hatred and negativity, but everyone has their own perception of their journey. I am a mother to a 15 year old boy who entered that home almost 2 months ago with severe depression, anxiety and self harm ( self harming 7 days a week).... scariest feeling to drop your kid off and walk away and know that it's in Gods hands and the staff at Discovery. If I could rate this place higher than 5 stars I would. The journey was not perfect, I was frustrated at some of the staff here and there, but I had to take a step back and accept the process as to why I sent him there in the first place. Evan the program director was soooo nice and soooo welcoming . Chris Myrick was my son's therapist and our family therapist . He is on his game , he has a job to do, and that is to help your child get to the next level of their treatment... he helped not just my son but ME personally. Just overall I am so blessed for this place and the staff. Nothing bad to say even during some struggles Inside the home .

Hi all, I am a two-time CFD alumni and I feel called to write this review. I am 23 years old. I attended CFD 6 years ago at Pacific Place. I was 14 years old the first time I attended and 16 years old the second time. I was placed here after a suicide attempt. I believe it is important for parents to know the extent of the damage that can be done here and in the surrounding culture. The first major thing a parent should know is that CFD WILL take your kids to meetings of Alcoholics Anonymous everyday. These meetings are actually treated like a privilege, which looking back, is insane. No child should be sent to Alcoholics Anonymous. Traumatized children need therapy, and while CFD does offer that, I can tell you that the thing that was stressed the most is the AA way of life. They utilize the outdated and heavily debated disease model that AA created in 1935. You can get the same results that CFD offers by simply taking your kid to AA meetings for free. Secondly, almost every single staff member here has no qualifications other than working the 12-steps. Unfortunately, this is very common in most treatment centers, whether they "specialize" in adolescents or not. Additionally, at least at the time I went, we were allowed to go to YPAA dances while at the facility. While, sure, there is no drugs or alcohol allowed at these events, there sure is a lot of sex with minors, cigarette addictions and passing of contraband, and exposure to felons and criminals. (Nothing wrong with felons and criminals, but children should not be around them until they can be rehabilitated.) The last thing I want to say is about the alumni meeting that happens every week where the parents are upstairs and the kids are downstairs. This meeting is nothing but the organizers controlling vulnerable parents who just want to help their kids. They will try to get you into Al-Anon (another 12 step program not based in science) and they will constantly shame you if you do not want to be a part of this group. They will say that you don't want to do what it takes to help your kid. My own mother became a victim of this mindset. Luckily through individualized therapy, we have both recovered from our Substance Use Disorders and our relationship is better than ever. Shaming parents and kids does not work in the long run and that is all these 12-steppers know how to do. I sincerely hope this review helps a parent make the right decision for their child. I suggest individualized and PRIVATE therapy for both the parents and the child who is struggling.

They are not helpful at all with insurance verification! I was told several times they don’t take my daughters insurance even after I contacted my daughters insurance myself and was told they do because they are a Tri-Care facility! They are very rude about it and no help what so ever! I even asked if I could do a three way call to the insurance company and just kept getting told by Courtney that my supervisor says we don’t take that insurance. Sounds like they lack knowledge in insurance verification and possibly because they would have to do a little bit of paper work for a prior authorization it is just easier to say we don’t take it. They aren’t out to help people in need! I will never recommend this facility to anyone in need!

My kid did well and I think the therapeutic approach to addiction helped. Of course the jury is still out, but I am hopeful. As a parent I have learned a lot on the area of respect.

Changed my life in an amazing way. The leaders are who made the biggest impact on me personally. I read some of these reviews and yes people can do nothing but that's only by their own choices. Nobody can make someone sober they have to choose to do it themselves.
