About Kootenai Recovery Community Center
Founded in 2016, the Kootenai Recovery Community Center offers free nonclinical services such as peer support and connection with community resources in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. They aim to offer a safe place for those in recovery to find education, skill building and socialization. They provide Peer Based Recovery Support Services (P-BRSS), which aim to remove any barriers to recovery that you may face.
Peer Support from Volunteers
Volunteers are the core of their services. Most of these volunteers are in recovery themselves or are family members or allies of those on a recovery journey. Once a week they call, text or email clients to check in on them. They also facilitate access to external resources like 12 Step and other support meetings, sober living houses and detox as necessary. Advocacy is another important part of their work, with a focus on replacing misinformation with understanding.
Help from Day One
Kootenai participates in the Day One Program, which is peer based support for those leaving an institution and reintegrating into the community. Focusing primarily on the first 24 to 48 hours after release, this program links people with resources such as food banks and health care. It’s designed to offer “hands on” support for as long as the individual needs it.

Levels of Care
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).
