Tamarack Health Ashland Medical Center was once known as Memorial Medical Center. They’re in Ashland, Wisconsin, and they have behavioral health care for adults and minors. There’s a specialized track for eating disorders. The detox and inpatient programs are intended only for adults. They have 10 beds that are reserved for detox and stabilizat
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ – A Call for Growth at Tamarack Health, Ashland WI I want this to be read as a 5-star review with a challenge for improvement. Tamarack Health is vital for Ashland—especially with Northland College now closed, this facility is one of the last anchors for growth in our region. My Experience I spent 48 hours here, saw three doctors, and walked away with three slightly different explanations of my condition. That inconsistency is concerning. At one point, I was told I could eat, but my own research suggested otherwise. When I insisted I shouldn’t, a doctor eventually had to look it up online. The next person who used the computer revealed the Johns Hopkins page she had left open. For anyone healing a perforated colon—yes, you do not eat, not even drink water. That moment taught me: always do your own research. I was also discharged without seeing a doctor. The last physician I spoke to said she wanted to consult the surgery team. Three hours later, a nurse simply told me, “If you can keep broth down, you’re good.” That was it—no chance to talk to a doctor about my new, life-changing condition. What Worked The nursing staff were all kind, attentive, and professional. The facility itself is clean, spacious, and comfortable. The people here clearly care. What’s Missing What’s missing is the sense of a team. Healthcare works best when patients feel their caregivers are communicating—not just walking in one at a time to read a chart. What if every shift started with a “huddle” where the team aligned on patient care, like athletes before a game? What if patients felt that same spirit of unity when someone walked into the room? Even a simple improvement—a live group chat among care providers, a more fluid hand-off, or visible collaboration—could shift the entire experience. Patients don’t just need comfort; they need confidence that their caregivers are speaking with one voice. My Hope Tamarack Health can rise higher and be a leader in Ashland’s future. All it would take is breaking down the bureaucracy and building up the teamwork. I believe this facility, with its people and potential, could become a shining example of healthcare done right—not just for Ashland, but for rural communities everywhere.

Starting off with this review that all meals prepared at AMC are hand prepared and cooked by the Chef and his team of Cooks, All foods are homemade and not one meal is repeated making this hospitals food gourmet and lovable, Monday-Friday 11am-6pm The Hospital Chef is tirelessly preparing good food for families and visitors and patients of AMC On the weekends Patients get to have what they want by contacting the kitchen staff and ordering what is good, The menu is widespread with healthy lunches dinners and desserts. Whatever catches your eye, its sure to be good. This Volunteer has had several meals at AMC and am impressed with the inevitable meals prepared. I would continue to dine whilst volunteering at AMC no matter what. Each meal is Appropriately priced so are the Refreshments. Theres even fruit, sandwiches and wraps available in case you don’t want the main course. Even tho the kitchen dining room is closed after lunch you can still order what you want (patient).

My two year old had a bike accident and when we arrived we were notified that urgent care was closed and there were no more appts left for us to get him in. As we were waiting, one of the women at the receptionist desk overheard us and gave us info about other urgent cares in Duluth and then another gave him a bear stuffy and called a nurse assistant to come look at it to see if we needed to drive to urgent care. They even had a doctor look at it quick, then clean it, and bandage it. I was SO impressed with the kindness of everyone involved in helping us. Thank you Everyone from the bottom of my heart. I cannot say enough good things about my experience with St. Luke's Mental Health Clinic. I truly hope that my review helps others considering seeking care here. When I entered the building for my first appointment, I was guided to a private room and sat down with a very kind woman who then asked me to share my story. At the end of the hour, she looked at her clipboard and said, "I think (therapist name) is going to be a great fit for you." I was so impressed that St. Luke's took the time to match patients with a therapist who would be their best fit, instead of just sticking them in available slots or making them choose based on online bios. I have been with my therapist for many years now and I can say she is the perfect therapist for my needs, and I am so grateful for the lovely woman who matched us together. Thank you St Luke's for providing top-notch, personalized mental health care.

Pioneer Recovery Center changed my life. I stayed from December through January, my first time in a rehab setting, and I was anxious beyond belief. But the warmth I felt from both the staff and the other women there made all the difference. Dani and Que in particular are phenomenal women who left a lasting impact on me. The groups focused not just on addiction, but on deeper healing—on reclaiming parts of yourself you might have lost along the way. That’s what stuck with me most. I left with a sense of community I’d never truly felt before—a powerful connection among women, among addicts, rooted in honesty and compassion. I still carry that with me. There was something transformative about standing in a room full of women, staff and clients alike, and feeling truly seen. Because it’s a smaller space, it can start to feel like family (for better or worse) and that actually helped ease the anxiety I brought in, especially after a rough experience in detox. The intimacy helped me let my guard down. That said, there were times I wished for a bit more structure, especially on weekends when things could feel slow or repetitive. Some groups felt redundant after a while, and being there during the coldest part of winter didn’t help the stir-craziness. But I recognize a lot of that comes down to funding limitations, not the heart or effort of the staff. Still, throughout my stay, I never once felt judged for who I was or where I was in my recovery. I never felt dismissed or invalidated. Something shifted in me while I was there, some deep inner strength I’d always had but couldn’t believe in until then. I don’t regret going to Pioneer for a second. It’s not the Ritz-Carlton of rehab centers, but it’s real. It’s human. And it has a special place in my heart. Today, I’m 151 days sober.

CADT helped save my life. They never gave up on me. Susan, Erin and Annie are the best. I'm now almost 4 years off heroin, fentanyl and meth and working as a counselor and also working on social work degree. They never shame you no matter how many times you may fall.
