I want this to be read as a 5-star review with a challenge for improvement. Tamarack Health is vital for Ashland—especially with Northland College now closed, this facility is one of the last anchors for growth in our region.
My Experience
I spent 48 hours here, saw three doctors, and walked away with three slightly different explanations of my condition. That inconsistency is concerning.
At one point, I was told I could eat, but my own research suggested otherwise. When I insisted I shouldn’t, a doctor eventually had to look it up online. The next person who used the computer revealed the Johns Hopkins page she had left open. For anyone healing a perforated colon—yes, you do not eat, not even drink water. That moment taught me: always do your own research.
I was also discharged without seeing a doctor. The last physician I spoke to said she wanted to consult the surgery team. Three hours later, a nurse simply told me, “If you can keep broth down, you’re good.” That was it—no chance to talk to a doctor about my new, life-changing condition.
What Worked
The nursing staff were all kind, attentive, and professional. The facility itself is clean, spacious, and comfortable. The people here clearly care.
What’s Missing
What’s missing is the sense of a team. Healthcare works best when patients feel their caregivers are communicating—not just walking in one at a time to read a chart. What if every shift started with a “huddle” where the team aligned on patient care, like athletes before a game? What if patients felt that same spirit of unity when someone walked into the room?
Even a simple improvement—a live group chat among care providers, a more fluid hand-off, or visible collaboration—could shift the entire experience. Patients don’t just need comfort; they need confidence that their caregivers are speaking with one voice.
My Hope
Tamarack Health can rise higher and be a leader in Ashland’s future. All it would take is breaking down the bureaucracy and building up the teamwork. I believe this facility, with its people and potential, could become a shining example of healthcare done right—not just for Ashland, but for rural communities everywhere.

I really appreciated what they did for me I got along with the staff very well I made them all laugh etc I had really good experience there sure I didn't always play along by their rules but respected them the food was delicious the roommates were cool had a great repoire with them got along well with the clients too I can't complain this all happened when they first opened I'm not sure how things are regulated now I was ever grateful and blessed

I just had a run in with Allan. This man is full of hate and judgement. Made up a lie so one of the men staying here couldn't go to his job interview. I am a person who is trying to help someone out of this life. Allan clearly has nothing better to do than hurt people when they're already down. Lisa, Allan's boss, has the same intentions. Pathetic that this is the only system they have to come into, trying to get their lives on track. No help, just hate. What Allan and Lisa don't know is that this is a low level vibration as well. I'm going to pray for all involved.

Range Treatment Center is definitely the place to go to on the Iron Range for inpatient treatment! I am even extremely impressed with how well they immediately accommodated my food allergies! Being able to eat properly definitely makes a difference in how much someone recovers after addiction! The staff here is amazing & the facility being nonprofit makes it obvious to how they do everything that they can to help each & every person who comes in! Being a smaller facility it's easier for them to be more focused on each person's plan for successful rehabilitation! The Pride Institute is a place of miracles. The healing and recovery that takes place here is life-changing. I cannot speak highly enough, of the dedication of the staff. From counselors to therapists, from the tech staff to the cooks who prepare our daily meal, they are all 100% dedicated to the clients. In addition, the sense of community that is fostered here allow each individual to shine. You find yourself among peers who often have the same struggles that you have had.
You truly find yourself supported, and definitely not alone. If you are serious about getting sober, and have the opportunity to get to the Pride Institute, you should definitely consider this one of your best options.

Wow! What a journey. Please take this seriously for those in addition or wanting to recover! I went here during covid season 2020 when I got my DUI. I was regretting it, didn't take it seriously, etc. I did my month time stay there. Went home continued with addiction cause I still didn't care. After mother's day weekend on 05.09.22 was my first day of sobriety. I'm still sober to this day. Let me tell you what, I've had the most fantastic experiences and time of my life sober! Looking back, wish I'd took things seriously. I even got off probation this year in June. I wasn't supposed to get off until November next year 2024. I mean God's work is honestly a blessing and you definitely feel him working thru you. I remember starting out here at this place, they said "higher power" and I'm like naw, I don't got that. Not even my kids. Oh yeah, God is my highest power! This place is amazing! Trust me! Great staff, food, location, etc! Just please get help! It's not worth your life ending on bad terms! I will never go back to that life style. Sobriety is just the coolest 😎 Lord the energy you have, stability, motivation, passion to keep striving and going in life! Yes!! No more laziness! It's just nice! Thank to this place and the DUI was a huge lesson I needed to kick my rear end into gear! Let's keep going! SOBRIETY ROCKS! SOBRIETY IS THE COOLEST 😎

I love that they had therapy appointments available within 2 days of my call and was also able to schedule another appointment the next week same time. I have been to other clinics like ACP and private practices. It's unheard of to get a therapy session this fast, even my general doctor told me there is a long wait for getting therapy. To me, being there when I really need the help, not 5 weeks out, made all the difference in the world. I had a video session with Tiffany and found her to be very supportive and kind while collecting my first appointment info. She made me feel comfortable explaining how she approaches therapy - woven into my responses. It felt very reciprocal and reassuring.

This is the only methadone clinic I have ever been to, but I really like the nurses here and the staff is amazing. I got really sick one morning and they took really good care of me and nobody made a big deal of it. I love Bryant he is a great counselor - very thorough when we meet. Going to dose almost every morning can be a drag but they make it easy.

I’ve had a very good experience with Valhalla Place in Woodbury. One time the building had water damage and I had to wait like 2-3 hours at another clinic to get dosed. But that was a freak thing.
Valhalla has saved my life. I’ve never had an issue there that wasn’t my own doing.
Been coming for like 12 years and I just do not see any of the negatives that people have listed. It’s been only positive for me when I’m on the sober track. I’ve been clean for over 500 days now.

I did a rule 25 and the man who did it made me feel very uncomfortable, I also haven't heard from them on the next steps!! So now I will be going thru a better known place!!

Pretty sure Nicole is an actual angel!!
Her office feels like a friend’s living room, not a clinic and it makes it a thousand times easier to open up. Nicole doesn’t just listen, she LIIIIISTENS! The stuff I say out loud, what I don’t say, things I hint at without realizing…she picks up all of it and uses it to really refine my care plan. Even through med adjustments and stress spirals she’s been a warm, genuinely supportive presence.
She’s the reason I’m coming to the clinic at all - I was referred to her by my primary care provider and once Nicole and I found a routine that felt stable, I told her “okay, I think I’m ready to add therapy”. Now I’m in routinely for therapy too. I wouldn’t have gotten there if she hadn’t made me feel safe and seen from day one!
Nicole’s humor, kindness, snd “I see through your nonsense - but lovingly” energy is so needed. She *gets* it and cares so much. 10/10 recommend, more than five stars

Of all the treatment I've been to in the last 15 years, Lakeshore has been the best in many ways, but there is always a few bad apples in a bunch.
Let me explain;
THE BEST:
Emily Schwab and the other Certified Peer Recovery Specialists dive in, driven by empathy and altruism. Getting everything a person needs in early recovery taken care of for you and lining up everything for our near future.
The Good:
The counselors care and are very attentive to our needs and help build a treatment plan worthy of a valiant attempt from our end.
The Bad:
Chad Walker. The treatment director. He is arrogant and selfish. He knows best, just ask him and he will tell you. He is very brash to people in vulnerable states and seems to have taken it upon himself to make his own rules and designs outside the scope of what EOSIS is trying to do for recovery.
Get a new director and I would recommend this place to anyone.
Also I think CPRS workers, especially ones this dedicated, should be independent contractors. Or, they should get paid more than "I think" they do because of the amount of actual work they do for us!!!

I called made appointment on a Monday. I was there most of the day. But i got started on it 3yrs ago. They started me out at 5-Mg, The counlers are very nice, and helpful.
The Receptionist are So Nice!! They keep the inside & outside of the clinic Very Nice & Clean. I would highly recommend this place to anyone who is struggling with addiction. I believe it has saved my girlfriend from her own addiction and over doses.

Mary is amazing! She basically saved my life! Shantel and Joe and super friendly and go above and beyond to help make visits as easy and smooth as possible. Marie and Amy (nurses) really know their stuff and care about their patients.
I highly recommend Valhalla (now BMC or something like that). Follow the rules of the program and everything will go smoothly for you. My life is a complete 180 from before I started going to Valhalla.

I love that they had therapy appointments available within 2 days of my call and was also able to schedule another appointment the next week same time. I have been to other clinics like ACP and private practices. It's unheard of to get a therapy session this fast, even my general doctor told me there is a long wait for getting therapy. To me, being there when I really need the help, not 5 weeks out, made all the difference in the world. I had a video session with Tiffany and found her to be very supportive and kind while collecting my first appointment info. She made me feel comfortable explaining how she approaches therapy - woven into my responses. It felt very reciprocal and reassuring.
