About Skyland Ranch

The ranch has been successful in helping men overcome their drug and alcohol addiction issues. This could be due to the breathtaking scenery, a back to the basics approach to daily living, or the mutual respect and honesty that staff take great care to foster. They have had great success in supporting men’s personal and interpersonal development by employing equine therapy.

An essential element is accountability. Taking care of something bigger than themselves, learning new skills, pushing themselves to think creatively and creating new routines for a healthier way of life are all parts of that process. They are distinct from other drug and alcohol treatment programs due to the therapeutic and empathic value of their horses. With the help of their program residents can both get a ground level and up close experience with horses.

Men in their resident population range in age from 18 to over 70. Every day residents participate in group sessions. In the evenings they attend meetings for Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous. There are several group meeting options as well as private counseling. A large number of their support team members have received specialized training and expertise in the field of male drug and alcohol treatment.

The best times to get counseling are when on a trail ride or while relaxing by a bonfire and taking in the sounds of the wild and scenic river that forms their southern border. Healing can happen as participants observe the dynamics of a herd of horses and engage with the animals and others in recovery.

If needed, staff can routinely report to courts or probation officers. Although court systems do not send inmates to the ranch, participants may be under court observation.

My best friend and I booked a 1hr trail ride and it has become my favorite summer experience. Michael & Gordy were our guides and we had a wonderful experience with both of them. The trail and views were absolutely gorgeous! We could tell the horses were taken great care of and all of them were so friendly. After the ride was over, they allowed us to hang around the ranch to meet more horses and take a ton of photos. **I recommend bringing cash to TIP your guides - or plan to Venmo, Zelle, CashApp, etc.** I highly recommend Skyland Ranch and cannot wait to come back for a longer ride!

What a wonderful experience! The location is where the ranch is located is beautifully located with a gorgeous view of the mountains. After meeting up with our guides, Thomas and Jesse, me and my girlfriend went on a beautiful trailride which roughly took 1 hour and 20 ish minutes. During the ride we had some great conversations. After our ride we had some amazing conversations with Thomas who later invited us to take a look at their barrel races a few days after. For the people who wonder about the wellbeing of the horses: they take great take of their horses and they looked wonderful. If you want an amazing trailride I definitely recommend this ranch!

Other Forms of Payment

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

inpatient iconInpatient

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

12-step icon12-Step

12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Effective drug rehab in Washington integrates care for the whole person, offering comprehensive solutions to addiction. Treatment methods address mental, physical, and relational aspects of substance abuse.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image

Adult Program

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image

Young Adult Program

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Equine therapy, aka equine-assisted therapy (EAT), is a form of experiential therapy that involves interactions and activities with horses. It does not necessarily involve riding horses, but all activities related to horses, such as feeding, grooming, haltering and leading them. A mental health professional frequently oversees the activities (often in conjunction with a horse professional), and helps patients process their thoughts, feelings, and behavior patterns during and/or after the interaction.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

This facility is a superior program, very different from other rehabs. Rustic, gorgeous setting where the guys live and work on the ranch. The directors care deeply for each live-in. They work the step programs, attend nightly meetings, and hold each one accountable. Highly ... Read More

Booked a 1 hr ride for myself, my husband, and our two girls to ride tandem with us. Beautiful property, gorgeous trail along the river, winds thru blackberry bramble, salmon berries, old apple trees, big cliffs on one side with trees growing out and river views on the other side. Thomas, our guide was awesome; old school, salt of the earth type guy, really pleasant to be around. Kasey, the owner is amazing. She's so kind and welcoming. Her vision for the property and community is inspiring. We did our horseback ride and then went up to the corrals after to watch the barrel racing. It was really nice to see such a supportive community; there were kids racing, adults, men, women, beginners, and advanced riders. Everyone cheered everyone on. The whole operation seems to be a really positive and safe space. If you want a casual, family feel experience, this is it.

My GF and I are from Brooklyn, NYC, and we thoroughly enjoyed meeting the Guide Thomas who helped my GF on a 1 hr+ (close to 90mins) ride through lovely creeks, hills and valleys of the stunning terrain. Thomas was instructive, helpful, and very knowledgeable about horses. It was well worth the adventure and a one hr drive from our hotel to the ranch. The horse was amazing and well kept, and the ranch was clean, maintained well and a great place to visit. Will certainly do it again.

We had an absolutely wonderful time horseback riding at Skyland Ranch, and it was all thanks to Thomas! From the moment we arrived, he made us feel completely at ease and welcomed. His enthusiasm and positive energy were contagious and really set the tone for our entire experience. Thomas has a genuine gift for making riders of all levels feel comfortable and safe. He took the time to explain everything clearly, matched us with the perfect horses, and his patient, encouraging approach gave us the confidence to truly enjoy ourselves. You can tell he’s passionate about what he does and genuinely cares about ensuring everyone has a great time. The ride itself was fantastic - Thomas shared interesting stories about the area, pointed out beautiful sights along the trail, and his upbeat personality made the whole experience feel like we were riding with a friend rather than just a guide. We felt completely safe under his supervision and appreciated his attention to detail when it came to our comfort and the horses’ well-being. We can’t recommend Thomas and Skyland Ranch highly enough! If you’re looking for a memorable horseback riding experience with someone who truly loves what they do, Thomas is your guy. We’ll definitely be back! Thank you, Thomas, for making our day so special!

We did a large group of 8 to horseback ride and had the BEST time. A beautiful ranch with amazing views, perfect for photoshoots too. The hour long trail ride goes along the river. Kacey and her team are so kind and personable. As a local, I will be coming back for more trail rides. Great for all level riders.
