Southwest Iowa Mental Health is part of Zion Integrated Behavioral Health Services which is a network of mental health clinics spread across the state including this location in Atlantic, Iowa. The clinic is in the southeastern side of town, not far from the Atlantic Hawks Flying Field.

The facility takes a personalized approach to treating substance abuse which is based on the individual assessments performed on each potential patient before intake. Comprehensive treatment plans target long term recovery and sobriety.

At any point in your recovery journey, you could find yourself in a crisis with your addiction or mental health that can’t wait until business hours. I was glad to see that this facility has crisis services that you can turn to for help at any hour of the day or night.

Outpatient Support When You Need It

If you have a supportive home network and environment or aren’t suffering from severe addiction or withdrawal symptoms, outpatient treatment may be a good treatment option. This format offers nine hours a week for individual and group therapy sessions, which can include routine check ins with mental health and medical professionals. This format is more flexible but still provides support when you need it.

Referrals for Inpatient Rehab

You might need more sustained treatment in the early stage of recovery so inpatient care might be the best option. This is an around the clock solution that can include medically supervised detox, support from mental health and medical professionals, a very structured routine, and daily therapy sessions. This service isn’t available at the Atlantic location but this clinic can refer you to the Clarinda, Iowa clinic.

When it comes to affording care, your treatment could be covered by insurance. But if not, the Zion network works with the Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH) and offers services funded by the state government agency.

I have been on benzodiazepines for 20 years. After my psychiatrist there retired he placed me with he placed me with a female ARNP there. She said I could not take them any longer as they caused dementia. She tapered me off of them after trying pshych meds on me that completely ruined my whole life. I lost my job, my wife and family, my house. I am currently going through BIND which is severe neurological damage caused by rapid taper of benzodiazepines . I am agoraphobic, bedridden, my whole body is burning and this can last for years. All because she may get monitored for prescribing it. This hell she has put me in is murder by the heathcare system.

The person in charge of my treatment was the most unprofessional human being on earth. She was rude and neglectful, you could tell she didn't care about you, and that you were just a number. If you need any type of mental health help, don't come here. You'll die before getting proper help.

Levels of Care

Outpatient

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

Treatments

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders.
