About The Equine Healing Collaborative
The Equine Healing Collaborative is a nonprofit organization that provides equine assisted psychotherapy to individuals, couples and families in Monterey, Santa Cruz and San Benito counties in California. Founded by Jennifer Fenton, LMFT, the program blends mindfulness, trauma informed care and evidence based clinical practices to support people experiencing anxiety, depression, grief and trauma.
Through guided, nonriding sessions with rescued horses and donkeys, clients develop emotional awareness, self regulation and healthy relationship skills in a peaceful outdoor environment that encourages healing and personal growth.
Equine Assisted Psychotherapy for Trauma and Emotional Growth
The horses and donkeys serve as active partners in the therapeutic process. These animals offer natural, nonverbal feedback that helps clients gain insight into their thoughts, emotions and behaviors.
Jennifer Fenton brings advanced training in equine massage, mindfulness based practices and trauma focused therapy, creating a body centered and emotionally grounded approach to care. Her clinical team includes licensed marriage and family therapists and clinical social workers who work with clients across all age groups.
Hands On Learning and Carefully Guided Interactions
Sessions emphasize hands on learning rather than horseback riding. Clients explore communication styles, emotional balance and self understanding through carefully guided interactions with therapy animals.
Many participants describe meaningful improvements in self awareness and relationships, with horses acting as calm, unbiased reflections of human behavior. Treatment methods may include motivational interviewing, seeking safety and individualized, client centered planning.
Accessible, Inclusive Care For All Populations
The program serves children, teens, adults, seniors, couples, families, veterans, at risk youth and individuals with special needs. A strong focus on accessibility ensures that services remain available to people from all backgrounds. Sliding scale fees are offered, and no one is turned away due to financial hardship.
Free end of life care is also provided for eligible clients and families. They accept MediCal, Blue Shield and other insurance plans, with reduced fee options for qualifying clients.

Levels of Care
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.
Treatments
Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.
