About Ascension – All Saints Hospital

This faith based facility accepts patients regardless of their ability to pay. They accept most insurance policies but they also provide financial assistance for the economically vulnerable.

The facility also provides rehabilitation services including physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy. This rehabilitation treatment is designed to help patients recover from injuries, cope with developmental disorders and support the patient’s overall physical and mental wellness.

On top of these services, the hospital also provides specialized women’s healthcare, cancer care, neurology and surgery.

This facility has mixed feedback from hundreds of former patients. Unfortunately, many of these patients leave positive feedback about the nursing staff but poor reviews regarding the care they received in the emergency room. Most of the reviews from non emergency services were positive but emergency services are always more difficult.

I suffer extreme pain when I have an MS exacerbation...I literally lose movement in my left leg. Although I have chronic pain from MS, it's extremely painful when you can't move a limb. The female hospitalist Dr Aktar didn't have a kind bedside manner and was pushing me to leave after only a couple days of therapy. P.T. And O.T. Do not come on weekends. I asked her to look into my chart to see what they've done in the past. She ignored it, I have a port for my flares in which I'm given pain medicine or blood draws since 2013. She came into my room and said I'm gonna put you on a pill and was given Tramadol every 6 hrs... She didn't listen when I was explaining what I suffer because I have a rare form of MS. Progressive relapsing MS which is primarily pain. I have common symptoms, but with my MS, the pain will progressively increase. I was being treated there for a different type of MS so I found a specialist at Froedtert who properly diagnosed what type of MS I have. My Dr there and a different hospitalist WROTE to the pain clinic asking them to start me on pain medication because it's going to escalate in time. None of this was heard because I was talked over and fell on deaf ears. It's incredibly sad that people who have certain diseases or chronic conditions are treated like drug seekers instead of referring to their charts or hearing the patient. How can a Dr gage anyone else's pain especially when you KNOW what they have and how they suffer? She literally came in my room and said "Oh your a strong girl! You can go home! I heard you wanna stay but I think you can get up." I wanted to cry because my leg still had no movement, I don't enjoy being at the hospital nor unsympathetic Drs. I have 17 stairs to get up to my bedroom, and your literally telling me, with a leg with no movement and not being cleared by PT or OT, to get up and go home. These new Drs need to refer to people's charts or seek advice from Drs who understand the conditions. If I had a choice I'd never go there again. Unfortunately, the ambulance has to stay within city limits which means only ASCENSION. This visit was one of a few horrible experiences I've had there and I hate having to repeat what I have over and over to be prejudged by a Dr because they're against pain meds. Their opinion of what THEY don't care for, should not affect proper treatment of a patient. They should have an alert in their system for chronic drug seekers and then a chart that pops up on someone's condition who is being seen for chronic or more serious illnesses. When it was Wheaton it was by far better because a beloved Dr left. Dr David Ross Jr. He went to bat for his patients. At least it's give Wheaton a C- but at least there were dress there that really cared about their patients until Ascension came in and did them dirty and the was a mass of Drs that quit. Ascension literally practically booted out good Drs for these judgmental and unconcerned Drs they have now. The news reported that this hospital is a D- and the WORST HOSPITAL IN THE STATE. Start listening to your patients and the immediate care needed instead of thinking we're all seeking drugs. They took an oath to treat the patients to the best of their ability in care, treatment and patiently listen to patient's concerns. It's sad that people are going through this because I know I'm not the only one. You have a mass of people in Racine that have no choice but to go there and you're more worried about how much you'll bill them than giving much needed help and are not really taking the time to even bother with the reviews. These Drs and nurses and ESPECIALLY the aides need in services and be scrutinized by the higher ups... And should be let go with enough complaints instead of shifting them around to other areas of the hospital. Ascension in Racine, should be ashamed of how people are treated there. And

Other Forms of Payment

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

employee-assistance iconEmployee Assistance Program

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient

Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.

inpatient iconInpatient

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program

A partial hospitalization program (PHP) is a short-term form of intensive rehab, usually for those with acute symptoms that are hard to manage but don’t require 24-hour care. PHPs have structured programming (i.e. individual and/or group therapy), and usually meet 3-5 days a week for around 6 hours (i.e. 9am-3m). Some PHPs are residential (patients sleep on site) and some are not, so patients sleep at home. PHPs can last from 1-6 months, and some offer transportation and meals.

medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox

Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

12-step icon12-Step

12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).

aftercare iconAftercare Support

Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

The goal of drug rehab in Wisconsin is to address drug addiction as a complex issue that involves physical, mental, and relational aspects. During rehab, treatment focuses on each of these areas and gives you the tools you need to achieve and maintain sobriety.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Dual-diagnosis treatment programs in Wisconsin can provide substance abuse treatment for individuals facing addiction and co-occurring mental health disorders. You can usually find treatment to suit your individual needs, whether that is inpatient, outpatient, or day treatment. These programs utilize evidence-based therapies such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and mindfulness-based interventions to help you relearn new thought patterns, develop new coping strategies, and learn the skills to maintain recovery.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image

Adult Program

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image

Young Adult Program

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
program-for-men thumbnail image

Program For Men

Men face specific challenges and concerns when seeking addiction treatment. Gender-specific recovery programs help them tackle these issues head-on in an environment that's focused, targeted, and distraction-free. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with and learn from other men who have been through a similar journey and can offer support for the next step.
program-for-women thumbnail image

Program For Women

Rehabs for women provide a safe, nurturing space for female clients to heal. These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Creativity is inherently healing, and can help those in recovery express thoughts or feelings they might not otherwise be able to. Creative arts therapy can include music, poetry/writing, painting, sculpting, dance, theater, sandplay, and more. Unlike traditional art, the final product matters far less than the experience of creation and expression itself.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a clinical approach to helping people with substance abuse issues and other conditions shift behavior in positive ways. It is more goal-oriented than traditional psychotherapy, as MI counselors directly attempt to get clients to consider making behavioral change (rather than wait for them to come to conclusions themselves). Its primary purpose is to resolve ambivalence and help clients become able to make healthy choices freely.

Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) is a way of getting nicotine into the bloodstream without smoking. It uses products that supply low doses of nicotine to help people stop smoking. The goal of therapy is to cut down on cravings for nicotine and ease the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal.

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

Recreational therapy (aka therapeutic recreation) uses creative and fun activities to help with addiction recovery. Recreational therapists lead patients in entertaining and engaging activities like sports or games; art (drawing, painting, sculpture); drama, music, and dance; and/or community outings (field trips) to improve patients' physical, social, and emotional well-being.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

I can see that you are very short staffed. However at the same time it seems that some of your LPN'S need to be better trained on normal skills like trying to insert an IV LINE which per NPA ans.delehation ONLY they and RN'S can do that. None the less she pricked my moms arm several times without success, in addition to causing pain. So another nurse or LPN.was requested. They were able to install the iv line without any issue. same area, same vein and no pain! TRAIN THEM OR DO NOT ALLOW THEM TO insert I.V lines Then the cardiovascular cath lab came down , they were nice and PROFESSIONAL!!! They needed the consent form but couldn't find it. That consent form some nurse took it and just leftnit on her station. Another jurse asked her where did you put the consent form. She was like on your desk. The other lady said on My desk? So now more time waisted. Bottom line some staff have NO RESPONSIBILITY AND NO ORGANIZATION skills!!

I have the misfortune of being a guest of the hospital to many times in the last couple of years with a heart condition. I will say that all my visits were at a high srandard of health care. The only problem I've been dissatisfied with was lack of on time service not because of non varong personal but lack of enough personal to keep up with the demand of the patients!!!

So back in January of this year 2025 I end up getting wrist surgery from a doctor named Banagas and he did not do a good job on my wrist whatsoever. I got surgery by him to remove a gangling cyst On my wrist and never had any problems until I seen. Throughout the whole entire process of healing, I noticed for so many months, which I also brought to his attention that he didn’t do something right and it left me with a big lump of scar tissue on the opposite side of my wrist, and he goes to tell me it’s normal when I never had problems on the opposite side of my wrist with a lump, it literally appeared after he gave me surgery and every time I bring it up to his attention, he tries to justify that it’s normal when my other wrist don’t even look like that. Then he tried to give me a diagnostic of something else without doing any test or X-ray. This just goes to show you that a lot of these doctors don’t be knowing what they’re talking about and doing.
