About Flint Odyssey Outpatient Services

You’ll find Flint Odyssey Outpatient Services in Flint, Michigan, about an hour northwest of Detroit. With programs based on the therapeutic community model, this CARF accredited treatment center provides a supportive space for healing. Adults and adolescents can access comprehensive addiction and co-occurring disorder care to start or continue their recovery journey.

They offer day treatment, intensive outpatient programs and traditional outpatient care to meet you where you are in recovery. You’ll benefit from proven therapeutic interventions and specialized programs to build a support network, gain coping skills and promote relapse prevention.

Accessible Payment Options

One great thing I noticed about them is you can always access care, regardless of your ability to pay. Along with accepting private insurance, they provide payment solutions if you’re uninsured or underinsured. You may qualify for a discounted sliding fee based on family size and income. That way, you can get the help you need without finances standing in the way.

Employment Assistance

What strikes me most is their Flint Strive program. They understand that transitioning to life after treatment can come with many hurdles. You can access vocational training and employment assistance. They make sure you can secure a job to build financial stability and support your recovery journey.

Community Based Services

Another nice feature that caught my eye was their community based services. Just a short drive away, you can access a community involvement center, a health and awareness center and specialty support for pregnant and parenting clients.

Of these programs, their community involvement center really stood out to me. They offer screenings, recovery options, specialized women’s services and recovery housing. I think this is a great option to explore if you’re in the initial stages of recovery or seeking to advance in your journey.

This place was nuts. They try brainwashing you to be what they think you should be. They give you unrealistic punishments and then punish you for failing. They also have the worst case of bedbugs I ve ever seen. I do not recommend if you re trying to get clean. Please go somewhere else. I ve been clean since 2018 and trust me, they had nothing to do with it. 0 stars.

Accepted Insurance

Flint Odyssey Outpatient Services works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.
sober-living iconSober Living Homes
Sober Living Houses (SLHs), aka sober homes or halfway houses, are safe, substance-free, supportive living facilities for those recovering from substance abuse. Ideal for those who've just been through inpatient or outpatient treatment, SLHs are supervised environments with rules that support sobriety, such as curfews, shared chores, and therapeutic meetings. Residents are also often trained on life skills and coping skills to make it easier to transition into society. SLHs also provide a strong sense of community that can lead to the kind of deep and lasting connections with other sober individuals that supports a new, healthy lifestyle.
12-step icon12-Step
12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in Michigan provides personalized treatment to help individuals break this cycle and regain control of their lives. Treatment methods are used in various levels of care, including inpatient rehab, partial hospitalization programs, intensive outpatient programs, and standard outpatient treatment.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

This play was a joke. Elevator doesn't work. People 45-60 walking up 6 flights of stairs. Staff are rehabilitated but kissers. Program isn't about quitting drugs or alcohol. Program makes you hold people accountable for what their doing. I'm trying to watch what I'm doing. Go figure! I had to use the bathroom I need 4 people to go! No one had to go but me. So I get wrote up for going to the bathroom alone. Okay I'm 2 years old now. Bed bugs and they didn't exterminate the men's 5th floor. Asbestos holes in the ceiling on medical floor. Tear this dumpster down. They were supposed to move to Baker college but lied. Stay away

Not fancy but it did the job for medical detox. Most of the staff are recovering addicts. I felt very safe there. Medical staff on duty 24/7.

So there will always be those people who weren't ready so they throw shade on the program but o well as for me, 4 years ago this program saved my life, and since then I had gained my life back, along with tools money can't buy, and I also am now an employee, a recovery coach and staff on duty person. I think of your an addict and are ready to take your life back, you should show up here, and let us do the rest.

I was at Flint Odyssey House for 27 months, I made Level 4P which is the highest level that you can get to as well as made recovery coach in the detox. It has potential to be a great program if the staff weren't so sick and cared more about saving lives than exploiting your vulnerabilities. They have the most hypocritical leadership I've ever seen in my life, the four pillars that they teach you that their four pillars are truth, trust, concern, and responsibility while they lie to you, gossip about you and backstab you they will throw you under the bus and laugh in your face about your misery, on top of that they don't do their jobs and nothing ever gets done on staff's level while they will work you to death if you allow them and then if you get burnt out they will blame you for allowing them to work you and say that it's your fault and that you don't have any boundaries. This is a the most narcissistic organization ever and I advise you to stay clear of here at all cost. I will never recommend anyone to devote themselves to recovery in a place like this. Save yourself the misery. Go to a real rehab, not this cult.

As both an inpatient and outpatient client since 2021 I give a lot of credit to the staff as well as my peers for motivating me to completely change the direction of my life on a new pathway of kindness, compassion, empathy and caring love. My gratitude is unending.

I’m sharing this in hopes that it steers anyone truly seeking change to a proper program. I recommend Mid Michigan Teen Challenge in Saginaw. It’s a faith based 14 month program that has a +60% success rate compared to the -15% programs like the Odyssey House are happy with. This is a non profit so if you can’t afford rent like I couldn’t, they WON’T turn you away, though beds are just over a dozen. (3 story logging house) However this is another animal if you think you’re gonna maintain med usage of any sort. Even nicotine isn’t allowed. But you can do it, trust me. You will be shut off from the world outside of your immediate family, and guess what you will be shocked at how quickly you get better. I’ve made the mistake of trying these other places and MMTC is like a family. I still maintain close communication with those that graduated before and after me, 9 years later 🙏

First, Let me start by saying if you're looking for rehabilitation, DO NOT enter Odyssey under any circumstances. It is a CULT-like program run with a upside down PYRAMID SCHEME. In this program, they use the addicts as slaves to run everything, including groups. Over time, after detox, addicts will move up levels in groups and get certain 'privelages' and have a certain amount of power over other addicts that are in lower numbered groups. There are 4 levels of power. If you break a rule, which is easy to do because most of the time you aren't told the rules, you will be given 2 hours of work. So, the staff are literally using the addicts to run the almost the ENTIRE program for them, the money they make should be going back down for maintenance and food service, but never does. The Elevators have also been broken for months so they force people with medical disabilities up and down steep staircases. Don't think it's a cult? How about this; Break a big rule and you will be forced to stand in front of everyone with a cardboard sign that you have written on with marker the rule you broke in marker and say it out loud, and hold it there until you are told to sit down. They use addicts as slaves here. They also refused to return my debit card upon my discharge. The building is also filled with black mold and mice. That's my extent.
