About New Beginnings at Waverly – Men’s Location

Their program for guys is for those who need a high level of support during the initial phases of recovery. This program focuses on addressing your needs and building the skills required to achieve a lifetime of recovery. Treatment protocols included with the residential program include medical management, individual and group therapy, family programming, relapse prevention groups, nutrition lectures, recovery skills groups, therapeutic recreation, 12 Steps, and a male specific curriculum.

The 12 Step program is a common recovery model based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a plan for recovery based on a Higher Power. Middle steps include self examination and making amends to those who’ve been hurt by the addiction. The later steps include continuing to take personal inventory while living a life of recovery and supporting others in doing the same. Additional 12 Step groups include Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) Gamblers Anonymous (GA), to name a few.

Family support is available throughout their residential program. They believe addiction is a family disease and highly encourage family members to be involved in the recovery process. Family educational topics include addiction and disease progression, family response to the illness, communication skills, patient relapse prevention, and the continuum of patient care planning.

Their aftercare services ensure that all clients have access to resources that will support their long-term recovery. Their New Beginnings Minnesota Alumni Group is available to everyone who participated in the treatment programs. This program offers a monthly dinner with speakers and community gatherings.

They take most major insurance plans. They also accept Rule 24 funding through Minnesota’s Behavioral Health Fund. Speak with your individual provider to verify your coverage because out of network benefits can vary.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a clinical approach to helping people with substance abuse issues and other conditions shift behavior in positive ways. It is more goal-oriented than traditional psychotherapy, as MI counselors directly attempt to get clients to consider making behavioral change (rather than wait for them to come to conclusions themselves). Its primary purpose is to resolve ambivalence and help clients become able to make healthy choices freely.

Because Addiction is a family disease, New Beginnings Minnesota highly encourages family members to be involved in the patient’s treatment and recovery process. It has been determined that substance abuse by one addict affects ten other people. Therefore, they offer involve families throughout the treatment process in family education, prevention, and ongoing support. This helps rebuild healthy relationships as part of the recovery process. Family educational and support topics include: disease progression; family response to the illness; communication skills; patient relapse prevention and the continuum of patient care planning.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

So, i completed 2 stays at this location previously. The first time it was late 90s and it was called Charter.i did 42 day program, i wasn't court ordered and the place was nice. I came back around 02 or 03 ish and they'd become New beginnings, completed a 28 day stay, both of these were Co Ed treatment. I was there again November of 2024, wasnt bad, but I noticed areas where there were cut backs, focusing on profit but they did have a new Rec building for activities. It's no longer co ed but I think that's important and should be that way for treatment. Anyway I lasted 5 days and left. I left for a combination of reasons but the 1st reason was a big one that was not ok and a total violation of ethics and I'm sure policy. Apon arrival you go through an admissions process where paperwork and questions and all those things take place, then there's staff that'll go through your things, checking what's approved, unapproved, considered contraband, medications, phone, gadgets, ect... they took some things to be placed in the counselors office, have me other stuff and made me aware of what's ok, what id need to ask, what stuff isn't allowed. I signed acknowledging i was informed. Place my stuff on a cart and led to my room. Roommate was asleep so I stayed up a couple hours and did nothing, with same staff that admitted me FF 2 days later I'm walking down the hallway, approaching the staff station and I can here my name coming from behind the wall, I was confused the windows on the other side and it was just odd, I peeked into the station, saw several people looking back and I turned away looking for the source of hearing my name when another girl/staff came out with an envelope and asked if this was me and is it mine. I grabbed it (the Manila envelope,) looked in and recognized it was some legal papers and some things I wanted with me to review. I said yes, where'd you get this? She said it was back there pointing to staff station, and when I turned and looked it was the girl who checked me in and all the residence staff. She had taken it to look over with all these staff and never told me. Idk why, or what for, but when they go through all your stuff at admissions, everything gets logged. They aren't supposed to secretly staff some of your things so they can review on their own, i wasn't confused it was clear what they were doing. After that a couple personal incidents and i left. Now after leaving about 2 months later I'm get an invoice/ bill from some company claiming I owe almost $200. So I call and say what is this? They tell me it's the balance of what isn't covered for medication while there. I took no medication while there, i came in with heartburn pills that I bought new, never opened. They're OTC, they chatted them in my stuff kept at nurses station. They are $14 and come 42 pills. I took one on a night we ate something I thought might trigger heartburn. ONE yes 1 pill, that belonged to me, that i brought with me paid in full. So they then billed some company so much for that one bill the balance was almost $200. Well I explained to this company is fraud then I called the to dog at new beginnings, who was conveniently out sick that day and left a detailed message explaining that this was fraud and i wanted a call back. There's no way to make a mistake when I took 1 pill of my OTC meds. I never heard from new beginnings. Meridian now owns a bunch of these facilities and they aren't bad, but you need to be aware. Lots of thieves, and if you smoke cigarettes, be careful as it's impossible to avoid the cigarette bums, always promising they get you this weekend or whatever but it's non stop and gets old super fast. It's for profit and feels like it. Food was decent, residents were a mix of voluntary and court ordered

If you are trying to get sober on your own and over the age of 20 I wouldn’t recommend!! Total chaos it’s like being in Hennepin county jail! People are young have ankle bracelets tracking them everyone’s talking about their prison time!! I stayed less than 24 hours and left! Absolutely horrible

This place is a joke. The staff is extremely disinterested in providing quality care, especially the gothic counselor. They attempt to brainwash the clients by filling them with lies. I strongly advise against choosing this facility.

CHAOTIC BEGINNINGS would be a more accurate title. This is not a good environment for anyone that is serious about recovery! The established "rules" aren't worth the paper they are printed on and that is the nicest way I can put it. 100%, the inmates rule the roost because they are horribly short staffed. This means you don't receive the care that you need or want. It comes with constant anxiety due to all the fighting, thieving and poor staff that has the inability to share info between shifts. Borderline anarchy, for real. Stressful. Seriously, do not go to this facility if you want real help! If your "on paper" or trying to suck up to the Courts only - this place is for you. Best wishes to all those who are considering recovery to recover! Your my people.
