I was fortunate to have an amazing recovery coach through Mountainside, Travis Alfonso! He was a huge support in my early recovery. I could go to him with anything. He checked in frequently and we always had great sessions. He's what I'll miss most after moving on from Mountainside. I have been going here for over a year now and it's a hit and miss situation the first therapist I had here was terrible and I could tell she didn't actually care about me. The first nurse practitioner I had here wasn't that good either. After that I would like to say that the second therapist I got was awesome he really helped me through some stuff, because of my work with him I have become a much less angry individual, I am sad to see him go, but people move all the time. I believe that the next therapist I have here will probably be good too. I would also like to say to people thinking about going here, take a chance, you may end up with someone you really like, and if you don't find someone else it is not much of a problem to switch therapists.

Mountainside changed my life, plain and simple. I came in during COVID when my casual drinking had turned into a daily necessity. I had tried detox a couple of times, thinking I could just reset and get back to normal on my own. Spoiler: I couldn’t. It took some trial and error, but Mountainside was patient with me every step of the way.
The real shift happened when I finally surrendered and let myself lean into the full support they offered — especially letting God take the lead again. Mountainside Treatment Center was a life changing experience for me. I have been struggling to stay sober since my first time in treatment back in 2018. I have been able to put together long stints of soberity and unfortunately more than a few relapses.
This latest came in April of 2025. After going into detox I made the best decision of my life by going back to the place that gave me the tools to put together 18 months. When I arrived I was going to stay for a "tune up" and spend 2 weeks. Within a week I knew I had to stay so I put in 5 weeks.
My therapist Krystyna was the best and I continued to have the same with my therapist in IOP Lauren. I can go on and on about all the great things about Mountainside. I continue to stay involved through the amazing Alumni program on a monthly basis. The open AA meetings on Friday night are great.
It says a lot about a place when you look forward to going back to visit on a monthly basis !

People leave this place with a new sense of self and a fresh start. All the staff are caring and judgement free. They are just there to help you through this tough time. I can’t help but shout out two star employees that work there. Isabel Donnelly and Ed Martinez. My cousin, who is more like a brother to me, has been to DYC more than once. While he is no longer there today, that is not because of any shortcoming on DYC’s part. This place is truly a diamond in the rough.
DYC is one of the very few long-term treatment facilities available for youth, a rarity that in itself makes it invaluable. But beyond that, what makes DYC extraordinary is the people: kind, compassionate, dedicated individuals who consistently go above and beyond not only for its members but also for the families who walk alongside them in this difficult journey.
From the Fallsburg residence to the Brooklyn program and beyond, DYC offers so much more than treatment. It provides dignity, holistic care, and the life skills, introspection, and tools needed to break free from addiction’s grip. It is a place that treats people as whole human beings, worthy of love, healing, and hope.
Although my cousin is no longer a member due to his own circumstances and decisions, DYC has never left me behind. For over a year, I have been attending the family groups virtually every Wednesday, and in that time I have been heard, understood, guided, and supported. These groups have profoundly shifted my beliefs, my approach, and my ability to support not only my cousin but also myself as I navigate the long and painful road that addiction weaves into families.
I especially want to recognize Jen and Scott, who lead our Wednesday meetings with such care, wisdom, and compassion. Their ability to hold space for every single person in the group - through laughter, tears, and honest conversation - has been life-changing. They embody the heart of what makes DYC so special.
I have cried with this community, laughed with them, and learned from them. I have been humbled by the strength of other families and, in turn, found strength of my own. The gratitude I feel for DYC, the staff, the families, and the space they create together, cannot truly be captured by words. But I can say this: DYC has given me hope, perspective, and a community when I needed it most. For that, I am forever thankful.

My child suffered from debilitating anxiety and had reached a point where she struggled to attend school or leave the house, and this caused her to become increasingly isolated and depressed. Seeking treatment at Mountain Valley was the best thing our family could have done for many reasons. First, the professionals at Mountain Valley are experts at supporting youth as they do the hard work of learning to live with their anxiety so that it does not interfere with what they want for themselves in their own lives. Second, the team at Mountain Valley has truly created a welcoming, nurturing community for residents that creates the foundation for the work and that continues after graduation. My child and I just attended the yearly reunion for the second time, and she could not wait to connect with friends and staff and to be on campus again. Third, Mountain Valley supports the parents who are on this difficult journey with their children, both during and after treatment. They have an alumni parent community that feels like a family, with regular support group meetings where I know I can always bring my questions and struggles and offer support to other parents. In short, my experience has been that the professionals at Mountain Valley care deeply about the youth and families they serve and are always ready to offer support and celebrate successes.

I am very pleased for this place to have existed. I have been suffering for 6 years, and couldn’t figure out what was going on with me exactly; but I knew it had to be something mental. Everything for me came to a boiling point, and I ended up causing ‘self-harm’ to myself. I had a black out moment, and it scared me deeply. I ended up going to the emergency room by ambulance, and then one I was stabilized I was able to go to outpatient care for the rest of the week. At the outpatient facility, they told me about this place, and I’m glad that I followed up with my appointment. I never knew that a facility like this existed, but I see this place as a sign from above or from the universe itself. Everyone here has been a delight, only negative is I wish the receptionist were a little more friendly; but other than that, this placed saved my life. I’m getting the help that I need, I have people here who actually listen to me and render me aide, there are so many different programs to help me & my family. I have even convinced my mom to go here for her therapists & psychiatrist. Sometimes there is a blessing that comes out of turmoil, I went through all of this because it lead me to this place; and I am very thankful for this place and the individuals who work here.

This is a caring and wonderful counseling center. I’ve been helped tremendously by the faith based compassionate counseling here. If you are a believer, or even if you’re not but want to try a somewhat different perspective, I have found it to be a judgement free and accepting place of healing. I’ve met with Cheryl but everyone there seems kind and supportive as well. Highly recommend this practice!
