The organization is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) and licensed by the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services.

Residential Treatment in a Safe Environment

Clients in the residential treatment program will stay in gender specific units. The staff can provide medications to help manage your withdrawal symptoms while you’re undergoing treatment.

Your length of stay at the facility will be based on your specific needs. Most clients receive residential services for about 30 to 60 days. During the program, the staff will use evidence based practices such as motivational interviewing and cognitive behavioral therapy to support your recovery.

The primary objective of your treatment will be to help you find healthy ways to cope with life problems without drug use. Through counseling, you’ll also get a better understanding of the causes of your addiction. Additional issues you may receive assistance with to support your recovery include housing, creating positive relationships, and parenting.

Transitional Housing Services With Outpatient Care

Nova Behavioral Health can provide transitional housing for people to live in while they’re continuing outpatient treatment. This gives you an opportunity to practice living an independent sober lifestyle before you move to your own residence. Clients will typically stay in transitional housing for about six to nine months.

Dayton offers numerous museums and parks that you can visit during your time outside of treatment sessions. One place you might like is Carillon Historical Park, which is an open air museum featuring transportation exhibits.

Too many incarcerated women here and I've never been incarcerated. Place stinks like cigarettes. Not a good place to heal and lacks spiritual guidance and ran like a prison. It was awful and I left early on my own accord. This place is only a transition place for incarcerated women before a sober living place before living on own again. Also the women have lost custody of their children. Not a healthy place to be and needs to be shut down!

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.
12-step icon12-Step
12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).
outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
inpatient iconInpatient
Clients who have just completed detox or who are at an increased risk of relapse, such as those experiencing a life crisis, typically enroll in an inpatient rehab. There, they receive housing, meals, and intensive clinical supervision. Inpatient treatment typically involves extensive individual, group, and family therapy. Clients may also participate in life skills training to support their long-term sobriety. Integrative rehab centers offer a variety of evidence-based holistic therapies, such as meditation or equine therapy.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Medical detox involves clearing your body of drugs and/or alcohol under the 24/7 care of licensed medical professionals. If you've become dependent on alcohol or drugs (like benzodiazepines or opioids), quitting abruptly can have uncomfortable and even dangerous side effects. The purpose of medically assisted detox is to keep you as safe and comfortable as possible during this process. Medications like Suboxone or Vivitrol may be provided if necessary to mitigate any withdrawal symptoms.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in Ohio provides comprehensive treatment to address the physical and psychological needs of those struggling with substance use disorders. This may involve inpatient and/or outpatient care.

Integrated Dual Diagnosis Treatment track (IDDT) is for individuals with a primary serious mental health disorder as well as a serious substance dependence disorder. Individuals will stay at NOVA’s Heid Ave facility for approximately 28 days. The program provides a highly supportive environment, utilizing multiple therapeutic interventions that promote mental health stabilization; support for the individual to develop the needed skills to either learn of harm reductions strategies to support their journey of recovery for their substance use disorders.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
lgbtq-program thumbnail image
LGBTQ Program
Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.
military-program thumbnail image
Military Program
Serving in the military is both mentally and physically challenging, and can result in trauma that persists even after combat ends. Military programs are tailored to the specific and often complex needs of active duty personnel, veterans, and military families. Clients often access these programs through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a clinical approach to helping people with substance abuse issues and other conditions shift behavior in positive ways. It is more goal-oriented than traditional psychotherapy, as MI counselors directly attempt to get clients to consider making behavioral change (rather than wait for them to come to conclusions themselves). Its primary purpose is to resolve ambivalence and help clients become able to make healthy choices freely.

Rational Behavior Therapy (RBT) is a form of cognitive behavioral therapy meant to be short-term and comprehensive. It was intended to help clients become more self-sufficent and move forward without the need for expensive, ongoing therapy. It includes an emotional self-help method called “rational self-counseling,” the purpose of which is to give clients all the skills needed to handle future emotional issues by themselves, or with significantly less professional help.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

I was an inpatient client at Nova and am currently an outpatient client. Nova changed my life and the staff there is absolutely wonderful. I would like to mention Mr. Dave Crowe, Toni, Leslie, Sarah, Queen, Dr. A and nurse Michelle just to mention a few of so many wonderful caring and compassionate people at Nova Behavioral Health. If you or a family member is struggling with addiction Nova is the place to go.

Just want to speak on my personal experience at Nova from last year. Even though I was mandated/forced to go by probation, I still had a fairly good time here. They take great care of everyone the best that they can. Food was always delicious and kept me full all day long. I gained almost 25 lbs here lol. Groups are from 7am-6pm if I remember it correctly, with several breaks in between for meals and ‘quiet hour’ where you can chose to sleep or work on anything else you need to get done. Meetings with your counselor once a week. New snack bag every week as well. If the weather is nice the techs take your unit on walks outside. Smoking is allowed, just no vapes. It’s honestly an amazing place to go if you don’t look at it in such a negative way, and are truly ready to get clean and want better for yourself. I don’t understand all the bad reviews! Mama Kat, Craig, and Alonzo were my favorite techs during my stay here. I forget my counselors name but he was pretty awesome too. Always came into his groups in the most optimistic moods, with a boombox playing music, or his Nintendo switch and we’d have a bowling tournament on certain days. Could never thank these four enough for the impact they had on my path to recovery! Thanks to all the other staff not mentioned as well!

This place is more like a prison than recovery center. Rude staff. No tax dollars should support this worthless recovery center. Patients are treated like total garbage.

This place is focused on drug problems more than mental health. That said they helped me with my purely mental health needs when I needed it the most. They do not have group therapy for mental health but the mental health Dr's and therapists know what they are doing.

A lot of people say it's what you make of it. This is accurate to a certain degree. The staff at NOVA actually do Care. They don't just go through the motions. The staff actually spend time with everyone, they are patient, and the care is individualized. They respect you, and make you feel human! The program works!!!
