About Pacific Lodge Youth Services

Situated just above Serrania Park in Woodland Hills, California, you’ll find Optimist Youth Homes and Family Services (OYHFS) Woodland Hills Campus. This facility has served as a residence that helped young men rebuild their lives for almost a century (under the name Pacific Lodge Youth Services).

Today, this campus helps adolescents (aged 13 to 18) and transitional aged youth (aged 18 to 21) receive the encouragement and support they need to lay foundations for a bright future. They offer many key supports through this facility, including educational assistance, vocational training and access to behavioral health and addiction treatment services.

Dedicated Addiction Treatment for Young People

OYHFS’s core program provides each resident with individual therapy, family therapy, education and a host of recreational and community activities. In this short term program, they help the children overcome mental and behavioral health difficulties as a part of setting them up for a fulfilling future. Part of this includes effective help with substance use problems.

Help Beyond the Core Program

Interestingly, they also operate a substance treatment clinic not far from the primary campus. Here, they offer many of the same substance and mental healthcare services on an outpatient basis to young people, even if they’re not in the main OYHFS program. Thanks to state funding, their services are easily accessible to those who need them.

Ahhh yes, I loved me some Pacific lodge. I was there from 1991-1994 and it took me 6 months to get out of "Intake" because i always had hours on the board and chores i had to finish before they sent me to a cottage 🤦🏾‍♂️ When i finally got my Act together i went to Niemeyer and it was better then i expected. The staff was always cool, Every Saturday they use to let us cook breakfast in the morning, And the weekends were really the Best especially if you didnt have any hours on the Board for misbehaving 😩 After about a Year i went to Bekins and thats where i had the most fun, And made the most memories like when the Northridge earthquake hit in 1994 and the night counselor was able to get all of us out of the Cottage in time because it felt like it was going to crumble. I dont remember his name but i thank him for his bravery and quick action. I was a very bad kid growing up, Sort of a Dennis the Menace and the Staff at Pacific lodge showed me patience, love, skills, good therapy and the tools i needed to strengthen out my act and become a emancipated young man and im thankful for the journey and time that i spent there 🥲🥲

I remember kind of having fun there sometimes I mean it was kind of jail so that sucks too but there were worse places I remember the staff at Clark cottage around 84-85 were kind of cool, I mean nobody was a particular asshole. They took some of us camping up to big sur I remember that was pretty cool . I forget his name but the kind of weird kid who ate the live goldfish at the lodge took off right after we got there and nobody could find him. So we ended up going back to pl and a couple weeks later, The ranger called and said they found him dead. Another dude in Clark cottage, Dan Stanton hung himself and I found him hanging in the closet that sucked John from niemeyer cottage was the basketball coach. Carter lived in the oto and was awesome on the guitar I remember we went and had someone buy us beer and we went and stashed it in the lifeguard tower of the pool and the gutters of the cottage all iced down .So when we were all out doing chores the next day we were all drinking beer having a great time Someone put some beers in the tank of the toilet and that's how we got caught lol more chores lol ! Yeah actually lots of memories from that place. Hope everybody that was there found their way Most of us weren't troubled youth. It's just hard growing up Oh yeah ,mister murphy and those shasta sodas !

Other Forms of Payment

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in California teaches participants constructive ways to stay clean and sober. Treatment revolves around helping individuals stop using the substance they are addicted to and learn healthy habits to avoid relapse.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Programs

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.

Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.

Clinical Services

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.
