About Edge Hill Retreat Center
Edge Hill Retreat Center is a residential addiction treatment center located in Winchester, Virginia. Here you’ll find a serene healing campus within a historic home built in the 1800s. Edge Hill believes that each family possesses unique strengths and weaknesses and therefore deserves an individualized recovery approach. Their residential approach to treatment is based on the 12 steps.
A Community Environment Designed for Healing
While enrolled in residential treatment at Edge Hill, you can expect to participate in a highly structured daily schedule. Your days will include 12 step recovery meetings, films and other psychoeducational activities, peer discussions, study groups and meditation. The beginning of treatment will focus on taking personal responsibility and relapse prevention. You’ll also take part in daily household chores and keep your personal space clean.
It’s important to note that this is a non-medical treatment setting.
Setting You Up for Success
Edge Hill will equip you with the necessary tools to achieve a life of abstinence from drugs and alcohol. They will make sure to connect you with a recovery community and mentors before you leave. Your family will be looped into your treatment to make sure you experience healing within your family system.
During group sessions, you’ll learn about honesty, self-examination, and decision-making. Though the curriculum is based on the 12 steps, including Alcoholics and Narcotics Anonymous, the staff is not responsible for your sobriety. Through these steps, you’ll engage in personal responsibility.

Edgehill saved my life. The staff here care. They teach boundaries, accountability, and will show up for you. Getting clean is what you make of it. If you do the work, you’ll see results and the staff will help you every step of the way. If you fall and reach out for help, they will be there to pick you up. I’ll have a decade clean this year and I could never ever ever have done it without the support of the community here. This treatment center is a 12 step model, which has worked for me. They set you up for success with an outpatient program as well as referrals to sober living. We did chores, which helps in taking positive actions, accountability, and gaining self esteem. The groups every day are helpful, educational, and varied so as not to be boring. The AA and NA community hold meetings in their larger meeting room daily so you can’t help but get plugged in to the community. And if you are just having a bad day and no longer at the center you can pop in and there is always someone to talk to. The staff are still apart of my life today, this place is the best thing that ever happened to me.
Had an amazing experience at Edgehill. It took me forever to get into the swing of following the routine. I finally started to get the most out of the program once I took the time to get rid of the anxiety of being somewhere far from home. I appreciate the time they took with me and not just feeling I was a lost cause. The serenity prayer was the thing that stuck with me the most. Shae is an awesome guy who keeps it straight up with you. No sugarcoating what he dealt with and how he became who he is. Joe was the kind of guy you look up to and would never expect to meet there. If you meet Blue in the kitchen youre in for a great meal. The different programs each day was a cool change up from going to so many AA meetings. I learned to open up and share my experience and stories after listening to everyone else. I'm grateful for all the staff there and all the people who made it possible for me to be there. If you have to go to a rehab this is a great place to be.

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Clients participating in a rehab aftercare program receive comprehensive and customized support as they leave high-intensity treatment, reintegrate into their community, and focus on maintaining their sobriety. These programs offer a wide variety of services to align with the client's unique and evolving needs, often including medical, mental health, and social service program referrals. Clients typically develop their drug rehab aftercare plan in conjunction with their case manager and care team.
Edgehill‘s program is based on the philosophy of a 12-step program such as Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous. However, they are not a AA or NA group. They place the responsibility for recovery with the residents rather than with their staff. The experience is structured through hope, sharing, trust, self-examination, honesty, decision-making, and perhaps the most important a commitment to a clean and sober way of life.
A sober living home in Vermont offers a balance between monitored structure and living in mainstream society. No alcohol or drugs are allowed on the premises, and residents must participate in 12-step meetings. Residents of the halfway house also agree to submit to random drug screenings, pay rent, and participate in household activities such as meetings, meals, and chores.
Treatments
The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.
When you enroll in drug rehab in Virginia, a treatment plan is designed by professional staff in order to help you overcome drug addiction and modify addictive behaviors. This may include evidence-based treatments, group and individual therapy, and relapse prevention.

Clinical Services
Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.
In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.
If you and your partner are facing challenges, couples therapy in Virginia is designed to help you work through those in a healthy way. Common challenges that couples therapy addresses include conflict resolution, financial disagreements, intimacy challenges, health issues, and substance abuse.
Edgehill‘s staff is well aware that alcoholism and drug addictions devastate families. They invite families for scheduled visits with residents and gladly consult with them. They make families aware of education and self-help groups designed for them, as well as make referrals for other types of assistance.
These first days, clean and sober, are critical. Their day needs structure. Thus Edgehill residents follow a schedule. Residents are responsible for such personal chores as cleaning their rooms and doing their laundry. These responsibilities point the way out of the quagmire of living in addictions throes and toward a more stable recovery way of life.
